As the title says, I can’t wait for larger Apple Watch S8. Possibly 49mm. That would be dream as my wrists are enormous and 45mm looks like a toy………Not 7 ft but 6’4”. 45mm is comically small for me. Also, the larger the screen is the more space will be for content, more complications, etc. Also hopping for more battery life.
Ah…a fellow large wrist sufferer:). My wrist measures 8 3/16 inches (208MM). I have a tough time with Apple bands (getting a good fit). The basic sport bands work (with the long strap)…but I’m down to the last hole generally (2nd if I want it really tight!. The sport loops are a problem because the tail end, once wrapped, sit’s on the side of my wrist (at the 3 or 9 oClock position (Looks odd). Technically, the solo loop and braided solo loop don’t fit (ie when I enter 8 3/16 inches into the apple sizing chart, I get “Sorry, this band doesn’t fit you” message). Luckily, the braided solo loops “stretch” out over time….a problem for some, but a “feature” for me that allows me to wear the largest size:).

The 45mm watch feels just about right for me. Perhaps..I could go to 47mm….for the tree stump I call my wrist:)

If the leaks are true that is one hideous Watch. If you don’t mind a clunky watch then you might as well get a Fenix type thing with humongous battery life, I doubt the Apple one would come close. I’m going to see what the regular 8 brings but if there is scant improvement I will go for the Garmin 255 as my main watch and just wear my AW 5 as a second watch on runs for music.

I agree. The series 7 looks great. Even if they do offer that ugly rendition of a watch... Apple, please give us the option to still purchase a series 8 that looks like series 7? I don't even know anymore lol

I’m 6’2” and prefer the smallest model AW because it wears just like that on me. lol

The normal Series 8 models, both 41mm and 45mm, will be identical in design to the Series 7 (perhaps new Aluminum colors?) The Pro is the only one getting the new design and it will be massive at 49mm.

I cannot wait for this new watch. I have the Series 6 and while it is useful the screen for me is too small and there's too many limited features. I use my watch to replace using my iPhone. The more the watch can do the less I can use my iPhone. My hopes for the new watch:

1. Larger screen so I can read text messages and emails easier. I'm old. I need more screen space and larger text.
2. I want the speaker to be more usable. Let me listen to a podcast through the watch. I charge my watch each night so battery life is not an issue.
3. Make it easier for app developers to make a watch version. So far the apps for the watch are horrible and they don't have to be. News, sports, etc should be easier to read. This includes social media apps.
4. More button options is great. I drive a Tesla and would love to make a button dedicated to opening the Telsa app so I can control my car.

I'm sure there's more, but I can't wait for this new watch.

With respect to the new 49mm size, it may wear smaller that traditional watches.

Lug-to-lug is generally the bigger problem for people with small wrists.

The lugs on Apple watches are basically non-existent. The watch band slides underneath and snug against the case of the watch.

So it may not be as bad as say a traditional watch at 49mm and additional extended 4mm of lug length.

That said, it will still look like an iPhone on your wrist!

Even though lug to lug is often discussed, the size of the crystal or screen is one of the main factors in how big a watch looks on the wrist, which is why I’ll likely buy the smallest Series 8, despite being 6’2”.

Many years ago, when I bought a Series 0 and (returned) a Series 1, I posted a comparison of the 38mm vs. my Submariner, and they wore pretty similarly, because, even though the lug to lug is shorter on the AW, the crystal is still much larger.

In some ways it will look larger however. For example the giant sized Garmin Fenix 7X is 51mm but because it has conventional rugged bezels the screen is (still large) at 1.4 inches. The screen of the new Apple Watch will be 1.99 due to having such narrow bezels! That glowing screen on your wrist will really stand out and look like a tv strapped to it I’m afraid.

Big props to you OP, total psychic!!
I just thought it would be logical to have increase in 4mm. From 41 -> 45 -> 49mm and also was secretly praying for 3rd larger size for many years. Thank you God of Rain.

Well what do you think now?
what we get with the Ultra is not what OPasked, that was simply a 49mm AW with no more detail than that, and if there were a "normal" 49mm AW I still stand by my comment.
The Ultra is a different piece altogether, the screen is only marginally larger than the 45, but what impressed me most is the 100m water resistance and being advertised for leisure diving up to 40m (~120ft) - so I ordered one, will check it out and return if I don't like it

I didn’t ask for it but I am sure happy they released the thicker version. Existing AW is small and super thin which I hate. Let’s hope for 53mm next year!! Two versions, small at 49mm and large at 53mm. Add LED flashlight and improve battery to at least 72 with AOD. Also they need to add offline world map.
