If you haven't upgraded to the X, and don't plan to upgrade when the new phones come out, what are your reasons?

I have an 8+, and I DO love it. I specifically got it because I didn't really want to lose my touch ID, and I didn't love the size of the X.

I was excited they were coming out with the X+, so I've been thinking I'd go ahead and make the leap. However, with the pricing predictions (and I know they are just predictions), I am pretty positive I'm not jumping on that X+ bandwagon, and I still don't love the idea of a smaller phone.

Of course, I'm a yearly update geek, so not updating will be tough just in that Apple-sheep sense. ;-p

If you are keeping your pre-X phone, what are your reasons?

I predict that you will not be able to stand it and it is time to move past TouchID.

I bought a used 8 in April this year because:

1. I wanted a Face ID that would work in landscape as well.
2. In my country, the X is over 1/3rd additional to the price of the 8
3. I found a very sweet deal in that used 8 (first owner purchased just two months prior to selling it) at $550 when a used X was being sold for $1000.

I am eager to see an iPad with Face ID that works in both dimensions. As regards to an iPhone, the used prices (forget the new, they are still stratospheric) are still very high. I am enamoured by all the gesture technology though. Clearly the way forward. My next phone will certainly be an X form factor and screen size.

I am keeping this phone as it does what I want to do with it very well. There feels no need to upgrade, so I will not. :)

Well I will be upgrading this year, the X is and isn’t of interest as it lacks the zoomed view, and so many reports of Face ID not working have been made. But if it’s price is right, possibly.
I may look at the XS Plus but no way at £1200 for 64GB, utter rip off!

So I could be changing my 6S to a 8, again.. probably the 256GB one, unless they make a new SE that is.... I may very well be skipping the new design.

I predict that you are likely correct, but I can't stand the thought of a smaller phone, and I just don't want to spend over a grand on a phone!

I DO have someone who really wants my 8+, but I won't likely make money off of it; just payoff the Apple plan versus trading it in - good deal for her though - my phone looks brand new. :)

I have a 7 and my wife has an SE. Neither of us plan to upgrade right now. My 7 still works perfectly one year in and my wife doesn’t want a larger iPhone.

I have a 7 in the family and there is no need to upgrade it to anything more just yet. I think iOS 14 is when it might start to show some age.

My wife. Because she doesn't see a reason to spend money when she has a perfectly functional 8.

Mom is keeping her 6s and and son his SE. same reasons honestly.
Same reason here with 1x iPhone SE and 2x iPhone 7. We do have one 6+ that needs replacing. A9 and newer, though, I expect we'll get at least 2 more years of good/decent performance from them.

For those who have the iPhone 8, likely is not interested in the iPhone X, which could be for a multitude of reasons when it comes to touch ID versus Face ID, price point, etc. So I believe those who have an iPhone 8, likely will keep it a little bit longer if the newest model iPhone does not interest them.

Keeping my 7+ until I have to replace it. I was one of those people who foolishly upgraded to the 7+ when my 6s battery went flakey 11 months in, instead of having the battery changed.

Not going to pay north of $1k again for an iPhone. When these X models are $750, maybe I'll consider. The new gold & black phones are utterly gorgeous, but as a non-power user and Apple's increasing greedy price points (even for AppleCare +), it's just not compelling me.

Also, I barely use the special gestures on the 7+. Having to learn new gestures just to use my phone, I am not ready for that. With everything going on here, I want & need to keep it simple.

Lol I probably don’t even know half of what my phone can do! The thing is, I’ve basically had this phone for 4 years (6+, 6S+, 7+ and 8+), and I really do love it! I don’t know if I’m ready for change, and I KNOW I don’t want to spend an arm and a leg on a dang phone (not like this 8+ was cheap).

Keeping my iPhone X sim free for another three years going to purchase a iPhone X plus or iPhone X Gen 2 depends on the iPhone X plus price no way i'm paying £1100 - £1200 for a iPhone X plus just to watch movies and music. lol

I’m keeping my 5S because it’s just a wifi phone (magic jack) and works just fine . I have an iPad Pro that I surf on, view videos and everything else. I don’t use the phone as a camera so that’s about it.

I have an 8+ and will not upgrade until 2020 the earliest and hopefully there will be a notchless iPhone by then. If not android phone here I come! lol

When the new 2018 iPhones come out... will the existing iPhone 8 and 8 Plus drop to the $549/$669 pricepoints?

That seems to have been the trend for many years.

I wouldn't mind getting a Red 8 Plus at a better price. It'll be a great upgrade from my 6S Plus. :)

I like headphone jack, home button, ability to reset devices without sending it to Apple (all of those buttons), a decent processor, screen, form factor and such.
I am eyeing on iPhone XS, but it is deemed to be extremely expensive. If it is good enough though, I might see if I can get that iPhone XS.

I got an X last year and traded down to an 8, which I love.

I won’t upgrade to the new phone because (a) Touch ID (b) price (c) how much better could it realistically be. In my view we’ve reached peak iPhone. It’s madness (for me) to spend hundreds of pounds a year upgrading when I already have a fantastically good device.

When my 8 dies, I’ll see what’s out there.

It’s going to take a lot of will-power not to upgrade to the Apple Watch 4, though.

I am more worried that the apps may not look right on Pre-X iPhones going forward as developers are going to either ignore it or not care much about it concentrating on the app designs on the X series iPhones, that being said, I am keeping my X, but I wouldn't use anything earlier because of this reason.

Maybe an app developer can correct me on how its done. Because I honestly have no idea.

If you love your 8+ listen to that (besides you mention price being a sort of big obstacle).(Or not. /s):p

By special gestures on the 7+, I meant to type 3D Touch, also all the special swipes (I never use those.) I just want something that works as simply as possible.

I understand the lure of new and shiny Apple, but I barely use my phone so finally understanding that along with things I already mentioned, it is a lot easier to skip the upgrade.
