I am a yearly upgrader. I upgrade for the better camera. There was a huge difference between the XS and 11 PRO (IMHO) and I am excited for an even better camera. I don't actually really care about the notch or 120 refresh. I'm kinda meh about the 5g since most of my calls will be in my home for the foreseeable future anyway...The two things that I would want if they were to innovate would be becoming completely waterproof (to be able to use the camera underwater) and longer battery life. Going lighter, thinner would be my next tier of wants. But as long as they keep making improvements to the camera, they have me...and I don't think I would upgrade for any of the other features I mentioned unless the camera was also better.

Funny thing A14 Bionic 11 trillions calculations per second
Snapdragon 865 15 trillions

Fastest EVER and IN ANY phone ... 😂

keep trying to compare that snapdragon with an A series chip and see how far that gets you... 😂😂😂

This thread is a wild ride 😂. You would think Apple is paying some of you the way you defend them (same with Android phone manufacturers). If you think the new iPhones haven’t got enough stuff to upgrade then don’t and move on with your life. Not saying don’t express your opinion or frustration that’s fine, you can have an opinion and feel things but to call each other names because people use a phone differently than you is ridiculous. I love talking about iPhones and phones and tech. My best friend has an Android phone because that’s what works for him. I literally don’t care. It doesn’t affect me in anyway. I’m certainly not going to yell at him or call him stupid or say he’s wasting his money just because he’s got a phone that’s different than mine. Use what works for you, talk about what you’d have liked to see instead or what you hope for but stop calling each other names because you have different desires for how you use your phone. It’s so childish.

Fully prepared for the flaming as I know how these forums in particular are ,but I feel this needs to be said as it infuriates me every bloody year.

Seriously, who really cares about the Pro cameras? I mean really? How good does a camera need to be for the ’normal’ user? Or are you honestly telling me this is a forum of true photo enthusiasts who take countless photos each day?

I am still using an iPhone XS and for the odd snap and video here and there it takes absolutely fantastic pictures.

Why oh why oh why are people so drawn to the damn cameras? And why oh why do Apple seem to think everyone cares that much? I couldn’t give a rats behind about everything they say year on year about the ‘best’ camera ever, as long as the odd photo I take looks nice it means absolutely zero to me.

Why don’t they concentrate on upgrading things people actually care about like the notch, which quite frankly is completely unacceptable in 2020 and an absolute embarrassment to Apple, considering I can buy a £200 chinese phone from Amazon which doesn’t have one. And where are features like 120hz?

This is now going to be the third iteration since the iPhone X and what has REALLY changed since then? Very little apart from ‘ooooh this chip is our fastest ever and oooh we now have blah blah number of lenses’

I love iPhones, and used to really look forward to my new one each year, but its sad how it just seems to be let down after let down these days.

Ill be skipping this year again.

Flaming can start now.....

I am here for the comments 🤣 by the way, the camera is the MOST important feature for me 🙋‍♀️

LOL I couldn’t care less about the notch. People are still making a big deal about the notch?

I enjoy the wonderful camera on my 11 Pro Max, but during this pandemic times we tend to stay indoors. Photography has become secondary, Somehow Apple failed to entice a hardcore Apple fan who upgrades every year to the latest and best Apple has to offer.

Worthless thread. A joke even. I'm not into film (these days), but even I can see what a worthless question this is.

Yet they come to answer. LOL

I agree with you.

But you cannot say that on here without everyone instantly turning ultra defensive and refusing to listen to the facts you present them.

They are so blinded by what Apple feeds them that pointing out anything negative just gets you flamed.

Mods, please change thread title to “iPhone hater circle-jerk”.

Thanks.
Again, someone who cannot read and just going on the defensive. If you actually took the time to look at what said i clearly stated i dont hate iPhones at all. I used one every day, along with an Apple watch.

Ever think thats because you have NO CHOICE but to not care about it?
Because Apple are refusing to remove it and you are refusing to accept that it could be removed instead you just decide that you 'dont care' about it...very convenient.

I love iPhones and will always use an iPhone...but i can accept that the notch is garbage and needs to go. I am not worried about making Apple cry because i have criticized their product

Same few people, most likely. It’s an egregious affront to their sensibilities even though 10 years of bezels taking up 35% of the front of the phone was A-OK.

👍
No it wasn't, which is why other manufacturers got rid of the bezels years before Apple did...

The camera is almost the only reason I’m thinking of replacing my XR. I’m thinking of downsizing my m4/3 mirrorless setup in favour of a 12 Pro Max because the cameras on it do so much of what the m4/3 cameras do. I’ll keep a reduced setup, mostly for telephoto, which no phone does that well.

The question is posed the wrong way. Rather than ‘only photographers want a better camera’, isn’t it more a case of ‘at last, none photographers can get great images’. A lot of people appreciate a nice image, but had no interest buying specialised kit that cost thousands and was complicated to use.

Enter the camera phone.....which then became an excellent camera in its own right. And is the reason why more and more non-photographers do care about camera improvements.

Camera phones are so good now that I sold all my expensive / heavy DSLR kit when the 11Pro came out. I have missed having the pro gear around 4 or 5 occasions in the year since I sold it.

My camera cost £2,300 without a lens...I spent much more on lenses. It was a one trick pony that took either fantastic or awful images depending on the skill of the user. It was terrible at making calls, surfing the net or getting emails. Even seeing the photos was a pain, requiring removal of data cards and plugging into a laptop. If I passed it to a family member, they’d run a mile as it intimidated them.

It’s not fair to say that the cameras are the only advancement. Hell, this phone has the 5nm tech, which blows my mind....5nm is roughly the amount human hair grows in 5 seconds. But who cares about that?

It is more that the marketing team have to find a strategy that will sell more phones, and the camera is one of the prime areas that resonates with consumers. It’s an easy to understand message that people care about...so that’s where the focus is.

What are you looking for in terms of advancements?

Photography is one of the biggest innovations to come to smartphones

I agree. It would be nice to see some big improvement in battery technology. It will be interesting to see the drop / scratch tests etc for the new glass

I do care about the camera & I'm most interested to see results from the 47% larger sensor on the 12 Pro Max delivers before I decide whether to pre-order one. Mostly for low-light photos.

I am not that bothered about the notch or the camera bump - sure, I'd rather they weren't there & I'm sure Apple will design them out if / when they can. Likewise the side TouchID button from new iPad I expect hasn't been "held back", it's a new piece of (presumably larger) kit that they've not yet figured out how to include into a smaller unit.

YMMV - we're not all the same & it's not possible to satisfy 100M+ individual Use Cases. Apple will continue to post huge sales & some people will feel let down they didn't get their own exact thing.

5nm technology & 11.8B transistors on a chip blows my mind. Most people reading this can't saw a piece of wood straight.

This is a weird take. The camera is literally the only thing I look forward to every year. And the improvements have been really good over the X/XS.

Also for the younger generation, camera improvements are important (social media).
No they are not because pictures get compressed and you can’t tell the difference anymore.
