You haven’t presented any facts. Just preference.
So now you want me to list specs for everything? This is just laughable now.
I throw in the towel...at least I was 100% right in my OP where I knew I would be flamed.
This has to be the most fan boy rife forum on the internet. Goodnight everyone

Starts a thread titled “who gives a damn about the camera?”
People reply “Actually a lot of people do, including myself”
“Damn Apple Fanbois!”
Read the OP..that was just a title. The point of my post is in the post itself..not just the title.
Another perfect fan boy response

I have recently started taking up photography on my iPhone 11 Pro Max and I love the images that have come out. Today showed me that the iPhone 12 is the return of the S series with the iPhone. Different housing, 5G, slight upgrades to the camera and basically that is it. Love Apple to death and will always support them but this year they actually showed me why I should keep my $2G in my pocket. The Apple Watch Series 6 gives me no differences than my current Series 5 other than a blood oxygen sensor. This iPhone 12 does nothing to wow me.

Yea, I hear ya. I don't care much about photography either. With the exception of maybe night mode, which I guess I wouldn't mind having, the marginal returns have gotten pretty small ever since the 6 or 7. I've got an original SE whose pictures look phenomenal when the light is good.

What probably means the most to me is something that no one else seems to care about: speed of text entry. That's why my primary phone is a 7 Plus. With the wide keyboard I can type pretty quickly with both thumbs, and I rely less on autocorrect. Weight matters too, and I'm happy to see the 12 weighs a lot less than the 11...but I would be giving up a little width, which means a slightly smaller keyboard. I think I would actually love a shorter (to reduce the weight) and slightly wider (to enlarge the keyboard) phone, especially since I don't like watching videos. Mostly I'm reading stuff, writing stuff, or listening to podcasts. I have a hard time believing there are so many more people who obsess over photo detail than are interested in a better phone to read and write on.

Hallelujah 👍🏻

we are stuck with a design that’s basically 4 years old. Hell it was only very recently that Apple ditched the iPhone 8 with its massive bezels!

4 years? Try about 8!!! Every year the hardware morphs a tiny bit but no real changes, which is ok I guess, I'm more an Android guy but still like iphones (still love my Gen 1 SE but dumped my 11 Pro in favor of OP7T and it's night and day), I mean they are all big black slabs of glass not much you can do there...I don't really even care about the refresh rate so much.

BUT, as I've ranted here before, it's iOS that is sooooo useless/unevolved/obsolete/(add adjective of choice here). Even 14 is barely a half-assed evolution, with its so-called "widgets".

Anyway I realize a massive herd of iphone users love them "because they just work", and I get it, they do. But pleeeeeeze get a ground-up rebuild of iOS at least announced, to give us something to look forward to! For starters take a Google Pixel or Oneplus and just make iOS do what they do!!!!

Fat chance hahaha

Fully prepared for the flaming as I know how these forums in particular are ,but I feel this needs to be said as it infuriates me every bloody year.

Seriously, who really cares about the Pro cameras? I mean really? How good does a camera need to be for the ’normal’ user? Or are you honestly telling me this is a forum of true photo enthusiasts who take countless photos each day?

I am still using an iPhone XS and for the odd snap and video here and there it takes absolutely fantastic pictures.

Why oh why oh why are people so drawn to the damn cameras? And why oh why do Apple seem to think everyone cares that much? I couldn’t give a rats behind about everything they say year on year about the ‘best’ camera ever, as long as the odd photo I take looks nice it means absolutely zero to me.

Why don’t they concentrate on upgrading things people actually care about like the notch, which quite frankly is completely unacceptable in 2020 and an absolute embarrassment to Apple, considering I can buy a £200 chinese phone from Amazon which doesn’t have one. And where are features like 120hz?

This is now going to be the third iteration since the iPhone X and what has REALLY changed since then? Very little apart from ‘ooooh this chip is our fastest ever and oooh we now have blah blah number of lenses’

I love iPhones, and used to really look forward to my new one each year, but its sad how it just seems to be let down after let down these days.

Ill be skipping this year again.

Flaming can start now.....

I agree. look at the people defending apple to get the reason why. If they sold a turd on a stick they would still buy it. Look at the responses to get your answer. Apple has no reason to innovate as they will buy whatever they are selling at what price they tell you too. Sad but true.

So help me understand, why aren’t you an android user? Your post reads to me like someone who wants iOS to just become like the other OSs out there so why not just switch to one?

Funny thing A14 Bionic 11 trillions calculations per second
Snapdragon 865 15 trillions

Fastest EVER and IN ANY phone ... 😂

Agreed but don't forget since iphone is a fully integrated in-house product they can do much more with less, until it comes to paying, then the consumer gets screwed.

I am an Android user, and an iphone user. Iphone hardware is frankly better (generally speaking), but android (10-11) absolutely slaughters iOS, those lazy f---s in Cupertino need to get off their asses.

UN following this thread now to spare the flaming haha

Cheers

5x optical zoom seems like a huge deal for almost everyone’s use case. And getting autofocus in a half second vs 2-3 seconds is a huge deal indoors, which is where most people will be over the next several months.
Plus it sounds like a lot of folks here don’t take selfies, but night mode on the front camera is huge if you do. Anything that decreases the situations where I have to carry a dedicated camera are a plus.

There is not 5x optical zoom on the new phones.

Ok, let me clarify

I do like Apple products. I have a phone and watch

i like IOS for its simplicity, but I 100% agree it is showing it’s age badly now. Widgets only now is a perfect example and another example of Apple lagging behind the competition.

I don’t like Android as I find it TOO customisable and not as fluid, intuitive to use.

I DO love many of the new phones by Samsung etc...they really showcase what is capable on phones in 2020.

The ideal scenario for me would be something like an S20 running IOS.

IOS is the dealbreaker for me though, I am not willing to sacrifice IOS for the hardware available on Android phones.

Which is why I am now so frustrated with Apples continued lack of innovation

Missed the part where you were an android user my bad.

We can just agree to disagree on which is the better OS no big deal there.

Hahahahaaa. You are Apples target audience. Congratulations. Don't forget how magical it is! 😂

I always love the talk of fanboys and the disdain for them.
What’s more irrational behavior? 1)Not complaining about a consumer product that you or satisfied with or 2) complaining on a forum about products you don’t own or 3) Continuing to own and purchase products you hate.
