I went with the 512. But I'm really smart. People often say "ah, look what we have here... a real smart guy huh?". Only sometimes they use a word that starts with an "a" instead of "guy".![]()
I disagree haha! It's the excess is best mentality. I vote get the right amount. Especially if you are never going to use it just save a couple hundred bucks.Nobody, 2 years after they have purchased a computing device, has ever said,
Go large! (at least on the storage)
- I have too much storage.
- My CPU is too fast
- I wish I had less pixels
- My bandwidth is too great

So I don't understand why the 512 gb? Unless you are doing high photography work or working with very large files or want tons of files on your iPad. I have a iMac and Macbook Pro so went with an upgrade to the iPad Pro 65gb version. All my files are in the cloud so really only need space for the actual applications that I would use on the iPad pro (which aren't resource heavy).

And I don't understand why some people assume their usage and circumstances applies to everyone else.So I don't understand why the 512 gb? Exactly. And I don't understand why some people assume their usage and circumstances applies to everyone else.
For some, 64GB is the right amount, for others, it might be 512GB. Heck, maybe even 1TB or higher but we don't have those yet.
No worries! If we all thought the same, the world would be a boring place!I disagree haha! It's the excess is best mentality. I vote get the right amount. Especially if you are never going to use it just save a couple hundred bucks.
I totally hear you. What's not to understand? You said it yourself...
"...photography work or working with very large files or want tons of files on your iPad..." and many other reasons.
I have my entire music library on mine as well as movies and also work with photography. 512 was a no brainer.

I tend to keep mine until I get a new one, and then I give it to my kids. This way, I pay theTax and never have to worry about running out of space or CPU. So, for me, I buy my peace of mind.
As for spending the money on accessories, I got thePencil for $40 through exchanging Plenti Points at AT&T, and I got the iPad 10.5 512 Cellular at Best Buy with gift cards that my company gives me for $350 (out of pocket - the other $750 was BB gift cards). I've been saving the BB cards for 18 months, though.
What part of Seattle? I just left there, and now I'm in Charleston, SC for good.
When we do good work, like completing assignments early, or for better results than expected, they give us points that we can get stuff with, and I turn mine into Best Buy cards (100 points = $100 BB Card, or for my wife, I get her Massage Envy Cards).
Who is in on the vote? Spouse... kids? (When Mrs. thequik asks me, I naturally say... go large!)I totally hear you.
I have tons of TV shows and movies with Apple and Vudu. I just stream them. I might download a few if I need offline content if on a flight. So far the 64gb has been good for that.

haha! I totally pay the Apple tax too. But love Apple products. I'm going to wait for the Apple Pencil 2 I think before I upgrade. I've had my old iPad air2 for the last 3 years and 64 was plenty space on it. I'm hoping that the new iPad pro I have will be ok with 64. If there is a strong vote that I should go to the 256 (outside of downloading movies) I'm definitely game. But I could take the $100 extra and just buy the Apple pencil. hehe
BTW, my macbook pro has 128 gb hard drive and that has been working good to. I just have everything in the cloud. Nothing is stored locally.

I don't know why you need a restroom, unless you need to relieve yourself."I don't understand why you need a lot of storage, unless you need to store a lot of stuff".

Lol, been a couple of days and I've filled up 50GB. Only reason it's not higher is because our home internet was acting up last night and was going at 1Mbps when I had planned to queue up and download more comics overnight. Ugh.I went with the 256 but I'm kinda wishing I would have gone with the 512. I'm one of those weirdos who actually uses the camera on their iPad and high-res videos eat a CRAP-TON of space. Also I like to keep a lot of stuff local, like music, some movies, and lots of photos.
I've only had this thing for three weeks and I'm already cracking the 100GB mark.
Note, part of the reason for the lower resale on 128GB is the price drop on the 256GB model. If Apple releases a 1TB model next year at the current top price point and makes 512GB mid range, you're gonna see resale value of 512GB get squeezed, too.Did more calculations and found out that currently, the 1st Gen 12.9 inch models with the worst resale value are surprisingly the "mid range" 128 GB models. This possibly means better value for getting the 64 GB or 512 GB models since going for 64 GB means getting the cheapest possible while the 512 GB means having the most flexibility and usability of the iPad
Theoretically, yes. Also, is it possible to stream videos / music from the iPad to other devices on the go (I am ok if additional hardware or software is needed)?

Also, the Pro 12.9 256GB Wi-Fi was $1099 on launch and it cost $150 more than the 128GB model. I remember when I checked, price difference on Swappa was ~$100-139 so in terms of absolute dollar value, depreciation on the two models is likely similar.
Theoretically, yes.
Plex allows using the iPhone/iPad as a media server but the problem is it times out like every 10-15 minutes.
These are probably your best bet if you plan on streaming to multiple devices on the go:
RAVPower FileHub Plus, Wireless Travel Router, SD Card Reader USB Portable Hard Drive Companion, DLNA NAS Sharing Media Streamer 6000mAh External Battery Pack + any USB mass storage device
Seagate Wireless Plus 2TB Portable Hard Drive with Built-in WiFi (STCV2000100)
WD 2TB My Passport Wireless Pro Portable External Hard Drive - WIFI USB 3.0 - WDBP2P0020BBK-NESN
Guess, I must be incredibly STUPID then.
Purchased a Pro 12.9 512GB. Will mostly be used for comics downloaded from the internet with my measly 100Mbps connection which is even slower than USB2.![]()
