I just noticed most Apple products except upcoming iMac Pro's are limited to 512 GB only, This is a serious problem for media owners like me, Hope to see 1 and TB iPad Pro's next year. Apple is the main leader of selling medias such as Music, Movies and TV shows in the world since beginning but had restricted itself to 512 GB only. This is sheer madness.

Given that i don't generally store media on my iPad now (bandwidth enough at home to stream instead), I went with the 256 model.

I have capacity there to store some stuff if i need to, and plenty of space for my own content.

For me, 256 is plenty (currently using about 30-40 GB), but if you're a pack-rat or have slow or often unavailable internet 512 is likely more relevant.

No they aren't, you can get at least 1TB storage in any of the MacBook Pros, any 21.5" or 27" iMac, the Mac mini and the Mac Pro.

I used to have an iPad Air 2 and didn't fill up the 128 GB capacity, didn't come close; however with this new iPad I intend on storing more and using it for more productive things I opted to go from 64 GB to 256GB; 512 GB wasn't worth it for my needs. I was lucky my wife agreed for me to get the 256 GB version :). So I won't be opting for the 512 GB but it certainly isn't a bad option for those who have high quality photos, video, etc. It fills up pretty quickly.

Just select any 13” and customise it to 1TB SSD

Or select any 15” and customise it to 1TB or 2TB SSD.

The speeds on those SSD's are apparently really fast! But yea the 1TB has been around for a while I'm surprised most people don't know that.

Ive got 1TB on my 2014 MBP and my 2014 iMac. So been around a while for sure.

Wondering how many people went with the top storage option of 512GB? I'll be ordering the new 10.5" IPP next week. Leaning towards the max storage but might go with 256GB instead. I probably won't even use that much who knows what will happen while I have it over the next few years. I rather have to much storage over not enough. My current 64GB iPad Air 2 only has 2GB of storage left. I have that much because I deleted some apps until I get the new one.
Nobody, 2 years after they have purchased a computing device, has ever said,
  • I have too much storage.
  • My CPU is too fast
  • I wish I had less pixels
  • My bandwidth is too great
Go large! (at least on the storage) :)

Hmm, I am thinking quite hard on this 64GB vs 256GB vs 512GB debacle since I will want to get my 12.9 ASAP. Here's my breakdown on the data I got based on my use case (iOS gaming, possible media editing or at least storage during travelling)

64 GB
Price: 1188 SGD (Singapore Dollars)
Price per GB: 18.5625 SGD per GB

256 GB
Price: 1338 SGD
Price per GB: 5.2266 SGD per GB

512 GB
Price: 1638 SGD
Price per GB: 3.1992 SGD per GB

Between 64 GB to 256 GB
Price difference: 150 SGD
Storage difference: 192 GB
Price per GB: 0.78125 SGD per GB

Between 256 GB to 512 GB
Price difference: 300 SGD
Storage difference: 256 GB
Price per GB: 1.171875 SGD per GB

Between 64 GB to 512 GB
Price difference: 450 SGD
Storage difference: 448 GB
Price per GB: 1.0046 SGD per GB

External Storage
1 TB 2.5 inch HDD: 70 to 80 SGD
120 GB / 128 GB SSD: 80 to 100 SGD
240 GB / 256 GB SSD: 140 to 200 SGD
512 GB SSD: 300 to 400 SGD

Storage Accessories
Apple Lightning to USB 3.0 USB Adapter: 58 SGD
Apple Lightning to USB 3.0 SD Card Adapter: 42 SGD
2.5 inch HDD/SSD USB 3.0 Enclosure: 30 to 50 SGD
Kingston MobileLite G3 : 40 to 60 SGD

Conclusion
Sounds like 256 GB may be better for me if I can set up my workflow such that photos and video can get worked on the iPad first, and then have them with their edits transferred into an external HDD somehow.

I did consider 64 GB seeing that my games took up 32 GB of space in my former 12.9 1st Gen 128 GB, but I have concerns about trying to sell it off when the next iPad comes. The Apple Store people also advised me against the 64 GB when they heard about how much space my games are taking up.

512 GB is the best when it comes to price per GB but I rather channel the 300 SGD to something else like the Apple Pen and thus expand capability of the iPad. Sure, I can always buy accessories later, but being able to save 300 SGD from something that I don't potentially need is equally tempting too.

Call me STUPID....went for:
12.9 Cell Space Grey 512GB.

Why?

I have lots of Business Travels all over the World (India, West and South Africa, South East Asia, Europe, US) and its enoying to rely on iCloud and WiFi. (Cell abroad is dammmm expensive...)

With IOS11, the new File Manager and 512GB I have the perfect set up for me. All important Files stored local.

By the way, loved the phrase: pay once, cry once

Posted this in another thread but may as well ask here as well;

Those in the US; What's the 12.9 Pro stock like? It's not great over here in the UK. There's a 2 week wait at Apple and the other stores seem only to get a handful in at a time? Loads of 10.5's though...

I'll respond here too: in NYC, for 12.9" No Gold, Silver or SG WiFi only 256. 512 SG were at a few NYC stores this evening. I did not check 10.5" size, 64gb or Cellular models.
