12 max pro and I’m still more than good with it.
iPhone 14 will basically be 48mp wide camera in good light only. Don’t care. Most my pics are low light. 12 handles them fine. Perfectly happy with 4K hdr video recording on the 12 max pro.

When apple can do something that significantly raises screen quality, battery life or experience then let me know. This is yet another year you’ll restore to a new iPhone and quickly forget about it. Isn’t worth the hassle of needing new accessories and what not, waste of money, bugs, etc.

Same with iPad. No oled means no interest.

Yeah if the iPhone 14 pro max camera is only good during the day at 48mp and only 12mp at night due to pixel binning, I’m not sure that will be good enough for me. Or… I can use one of my 13 pro max iPhones for night and the 14 pro max for the day for landscape and portraits, that would be good. It all depends on the camera software and if the quality of the night mode has greatly improved, then that may help me decide. Usually Apple doesn’t disclose or explain the camera settings or improvements during the Apple event, so it’s up to us to find out after we get them in our hands. I also read that the 14 pro and pro max may not be available until late October or early November due to production issues.

We will be sticking with our 12’s. They have been such a great device. Besides the new carrier plans are outrageous. Locked in for 3 years to get full advantage. In Canada it was so different. Carriers could only lock you in for 2 years and all phones have to be sold unlocked. Plan or no plan.

Haven’t decided yet. I often use my iPhone for photography, so reading that the sensor will be 50% bigger is very tempting. Then, my common sense kicks in and says "it is still not a camera". But, if I know me, I will end up getting it. 🤔

THIS! 👏🏻 same here love my 12 pro max (I also have a case I’m NOT ready to part with either and wouldn’t be able to get again…)

I do this myself. I still enjoy the excitement of ordering and waiting for it to show the following Friday (if everything works out with supply/launch) 😂

I could survive on my current device, but why…? 😋
It is a weird feeling for me because last year I actually shelved my 13 Pro and went to an XR and then iPhone 11. And I’m not giving up the iPhone 11. Or my SE which will continue to hold my main Sim. But I’m super excited about the 14 Pro/Pro Max. It’s going to take the Sim that’s in my S22 Ultra. The way I use my Ultra it is mainly used on WiFi anyway.

If it’s really good and doesnt give me migraines, it will get my main sim.

If it’s any help, I liked my 12 Pro Max way better than my 13 Pro. Unfortunately the display turned blacks green in low light so I decided to go ahead and upgrade. 12 Pro Max was otherwise a great phone with an excellent camera so I can’t imagine it feels dated yet. If things don’t work out for me with the 14 Pro, I might give it a go with a refurbished 12 Pro Max. With a refurb I know Apple will test the display before sending it out to me.

I currently have an iPhone 12 PM (almost launch day) and an iPhone 13 Mini (6 months). No plan to upgrade to iPhone 14.

Combination of mature tech and Apple breadcrumbs.

Yea this is totally true. My screen is perfect and my pictures are phenomenal. I know the camera will be a new leap for Apple this year but I’d rather have an even more improved upon camera AND the usb-c. It makes more sense. This year went by really fast and I can’t see the next year slowing down. For what I use my phone for my 12 pro max is awesome.

Plus… my case. I can’t part with it lol

Supposedly, If Apple again gives $800 trade-in value for 13PM, then one can upgrade for "only" $300.
Further, T-mobile will run a promo, where you trade in the same class last year iphone with new one for $100 - example 13 PM to 14PM or 13 to 14.
In lieu of these circumstances, I see no reason to not upgrade every year, otherwise losing too much value by holding onto an old phone.

not necessarily. If you keep your device 2-4 years you get more value out of the sunk cost.

Sometimes carriers offer crazy trade ins too. like an iPhone 8 could get you $800 off a $1000 phone (the 12 pro in 2020), spread across payments over 2.5 years.

You're right, I meant the lightning port. Dunno what I was thinking! But yeah wireless works, but she uses the lightning port to plug the phone into the car for CarPlay, and so on too.

Have you tried cleaning out the lightning port with a toothpick? It usually gets filled with lint and causes intermittent issues.

I am debating. Definitely happy with my 12 Pro but I am considering upgrading if ATT can incentive me. I am going to see how much I can get back through the buyback program and then decide. Might want to get the Pro Max this year but basing that off of costs, lol.

$800 trade in for an iPhone 8? Wow, that would never happen in the UK. Trade in with Apple here are appalling and an iPhone 8 you’d struggle to get £80 with them. They always offer under what they advertise.

😀 I’d love to know which case that is. Mine is shot.

I’m going to use my daughter’s 11 to trade in for a 13 for a Christmas gift her. Hopefully T-Mobile have some good deals for Black Friday.

I used to be an upgrade every year kind of guy. I'm currently on a 12 Pro Max, and am not ruling out the option of upgrading...however I'm undecided. Unless the new iPhone 14 series comes with some major compelling new feature, I won't be upgrading.

Compelling features:
  • USB-C: A switch to USB-C would be convenient for me as a 1 bag minimalist traveler. Not a huge deal, but it is one thing that annoys me about my current phone. I hate having to schlep 2 kinds of cables where every single device I have (except my phone and airpods) takes USB-C now. Hell even my damn flashlight on my nightstand charges via USB-C.
  • Connectivity: Some significant enhancement in what bands/throughput the phone can handle.
  • Dex-like functionality: The ability to connect my phone to a screen and for it to be like a mac-mini would make me switch.
  • Satellite connectivity: If this rumor is true, and it works well enough for me to be able to text from an airplane over the pacific when I have no in-flight wifi... then that might be enough for me to switch. Else, no.
  • Double the battery life: A combination of a much bigger battery and a more efficient chip/modem resulting in double the battery life would be compelling to me. A small (~20%) increase wouldn't be enough.
Cool Features not compelling enough for an upgrade:
  • More memory: I'm fine with 256GB
  • Cutout vs notch: Don't care, notch never bothered me
  • Screen refresh rate: Again, nice to have but don't care for a high-refresh screen
  • Always on display: Great feature, not enough for me to bother with moving to a new phone.
  • Better camera: Depends on how much better. One of the reasons I used to always upgrade was for the significant camera enhancements. I have young kids and always want the best photos of them I can get with a device I always have with me. I'm happy with the image quality from the 12 Pro Max, so the 14 would need to really bring something MUCH better to the table

comes down to price, I usually upgrade every 2 years, but with the finances how they are right now and the underwhelming spec bump, I don't know if its worth it to me to upgrade.

My regular 12 is still extremely fast (haven’t noticed a slow down), the battery is OK and the camera is great. I’m inclined to hold off another year; the big issue I have is how ram starved the phone feels these days, reloads getting more and more common and can effect me when I’m in a call. Issue in my mind is the 14 sounds lacklustre and I couldn’t justify 14 pro prices in this economic climate (no amazing trade in deals in the Uk). I wouldn’t mind going for a reduced 13 but that also has 4gb ram and I really want at least 6gb.

Overall undecided and will wait for the announcement.

I so far haven’t skipped and upgraded yet. I’ve bought a new iPhone every year instead of waiting an additional year. I just can’t keep using the same iPhone for more than a year, I get bored with it. I don’t understand how some people hang on to the same iPhone for three years or longer. I have a friend that kept his 6s plus for 7.5 years! OMG! He FINALLY upgraded to the 13 pro max this year and he will probably keep it until it breaks. He always keeps the same case as well instead of having several for a variety and different look.

This is why I have a butt load of cases for my iPhones (I have two 13 pro max iPhones) so I can change it out once or twice a day with a different one for a new look and feel. Obviously those of you don’t upgrade each year because, unlike me, you probably aren’t a photographer and use the camera as much. This is why I upgrade my iPhone each year, for the better camera because photography is a major passion of mine. This year the Apple event will help me decide if I need the iPhone 14 pro max or not. It all depends on the camera! If I decide to upgrade, I’ll have to pay off one of my iPhones or buy the new one outright. We shall see.
