Apple would prefer to delay a 1TB+ order when they can sell many more of the others. No use having higher capacity collecting dust.
It’s kind of odd. You had quoted me… but I don’t recall saying that in my post.

But nevertheless. I do think it’s strategic, but I don’t think it’s for the reasons of being worried it collecting dust. I think Apple is underestimating people willing to spend money on a 1TB cellular model.

Hence, I specifically mentioned highly dense urban areas (New York, SF, LA). There's 12 within a 20-mile radius from me in the Los Angeles area. Probably more than 20 if you expand it to 50 miles.
My apologies, but 12 stores in a 20-mile radius… that’s insane, at least to me.

Despite that, every Apple Store I've visited has always been full pre-pandemic. In 2019, the population in the Greater Los Angeles area is 18.71 million so yeah, plenty of potential customers.

I will probably try to get one locally on release day. The Apple Store isn’t far from me. If I am not able to get it for a while, it’s no big deal. My 2018 iPP 11 is doing fine, although I did get a new ASK for it as I’ve worn a small hole in the fabric over the space bar.

Just checked and May 22 is a Saturday and unless the weather is awful, I’ll be out of town until late afternoon, but I’m thinking if I reserve one for pickup, I can either get it that afternoon/evening or Sunday if it’s in stock.

That was the site getting confused. Quoted Rue. Very odd

Nice! I had a similar pickup experience. Was the smoothest launch pickup I've ever done honestly.

Yeah mine is now Ready for Pickup. I got in at the last second for pickup as they were no longer available for my desired configuration once I hit go.

12.9 1TB SG 5G

I did see a lot of non 5G so looks like stock is pretty good at launch. The online only first round likely helped to cool the in-store off a bit.
Same here! I originally preordered the 512GB but after all the talk on the Adobe forums with the full suite coming to the M1 iPad I decided to upgrade to the 1TB for not only the space but the 16GB of ram.

The Apply employee that helped me today which was a manager told me that if we ever miss a preorder to always go to the Apple store on launch. He said Apple always sends stores so much stock for walk in customers, so thats good news for any upcoming products if I miss the next pre order.
