I remember picking up the first Intel MacBook Pro. It was hot and loud. It felt cool to have the latest new thing. But it was soon replaced by something better.

Won't be rushing to get the first ARM Mac.

I'm going to wait and see what they announce, for me assuming the laptop runs Microsoft Office, Final Cut Pro, some GoPro tools and is no heavier/no slower than my current 2018 MBP with less heat it'll be near the top of a short list!

I will buy an arm MacBook Pro which will probably be released a while after the first ARM products so they'll have time and experience for improvements.

Considering where the OP's question was posted, in an Apple forum full of Apple fans who will buy anything with the Apple name or logo on it, it's a bit of a stupid question to ask in my opinion because it's obvious the answers from the forum Apple fans are going to be 'I will, and me, plus me, and me, and me, plus me, don't forget me'.

I won't buy one this year, but if they are as good as I hope, my next computer will be one of the Arm Macbooks.

You must be new here... people around here can be very vocal about changes they don't like.

I will probably switch when the raw performance offered by a similar class Arm Mac surpaces my MBP 16". It looks to me that longer battery is pretty much given, but the raw performance is really important.

I already use several machines, and my work tasks are mostly on Windows. My company probably no longer issue Mac as it won't run any VM, but I use my personal Mac as my personal machine. It's just better integrated with mobile world through icloud. Therefore, I will probably switch my personal to Arm, but until all apps are ready and performance is guaranteed.

All personal hard work and gaming, encoding whatever is done on my own built PC desktop. I have hoped that Apple will someday offer 3000 USD headless desktop for this, but well looks like they won't.

I’m probably buying day 1. My current machine is a 2012 non retina MBP. The battery life is so bad on it so I mainly been using a X1 Carbon with Pop OS and Windows. I was planning on getting something next month but with the announcement I’ll take my chances on the new one.

I'm going to probably get an Intel 13" MacBook Pro in the not-too-distant future. I do IT, so having a T2 Mac is something I ought to have and familiarize myself with. I got the first Intel 20" iMac at last transition. I don't regret choosing it over the contemporary iMac G5, but I realized that if I waited until the refresh one right after, I'd have had quite a bit longer of a supported lifecycle. Apple is usually like that with first generation anything. That, and my Mac needs aren't super-serious these days (given that I've mostly switched back to Windows as my primary desktop platform), so the fact that I'm on the outgoing architecture won't matter too much (plus I still get Boot Camp!).

So, in short, 13" MacBook Pro with Intel today. Then in a refresh or two, I'll pick up whatever ARM equivalent machine just so I can do testing and whatnot.

I may try one out 14 day return. But its only gonna be a "try"

Unless VM's is the one spot that Apple fits with VMWare, i won't be there.

I come from a land down-under...
I was waiting to see what wwdc offered and now i am convinced. Day 1 mbp buy. Hopefully the 16” comes first but I will get the 13“/14” if that released.

I very much doubt the MBP16 on ARM will be available within a year. The MBP13 is slated to be the first model to transition. After that, I think it will be either the Air (or possibly a new MacBook) or an entry-level iMac.

If you want to be at the bleeding edge of technology be prepared to pay through the nose for it and shed some blood because it will most likely not be a smooth ride. Some people like that, need the latest greatest whatever the cost in terms of money and pain. Me? I will wait it out and watch how things unfold.

An all new processor and an all new GPU from a new supplier. Man that is going to be tough. I wonder what the failure rate is right now from early samples. How is the fab coping with defect density and process variations. Even when they think they do have the correct recipe something can easily slip out of tolerance. Once they have processed a few thousand wafers and there is some solid reliability data I just might be interested.

That is just the fab process for the die. Then we get into the assembly process. Mold compound, pressure, die cracking and deformity, metallurgy, substrate and on and on. TSMC and ASE are the best foundry and assembly companies in the world but if the design is not right things will not go well. Do we trust Apple and ARM to get it right straight out of the trap? Don't believe anyone who says these chips will be fully tested and 100% reliable when the product hits the market it is a learning curve even after products go on sale.

Which is a huge concern actually! System on chip is not easy and fraught with bugs. Even if the design is 90% right the manufacturing of the silicon and packaging will be a nightmare and then when the software does not perform as expected.....................
[automerge]1593338366[/automerge]
Intel, AMD, processors, GPU's all the history that we can see here on this forum and elsewhere on the Internet. Forget all that, Apple is going to get it all right straight out of the trap with a new design partner and their own SoC designs.

Yea right........................

Apple and ARM are currently the duck on the pond. All peaceful on the surface but below the paddles are going at a hundred miles an hour in panic. Been there and did it with new silicon releases.

I'll likely end up getting one, but I may wait for the second gen. My current laptop has been a good lesson in why you never buy the first version of anything Apple puts out.

[Bracing for sheep comments following]

I will buy whatever the first ARM product is, well maybe not if it’s an iMac - as I already have an iMac Pro.

I’m a big tech nerd, and for me it’s fun to (beta?) test new hardware. I already have plenty of daily driver Macs, so even if an ARM MacBook/MacBook Pro/Mini is buggy as hell, I have other machines to rely on.

A 12” MacBook with a better keyboard and ARM processor could be amazing. I really do like my 12.9 IPP and Magic Keyboard, but it’s a bit top-heavy for serious typing sessions on my lap.
