I love pictures of watches in different surroundings instead of just on a blank background like a stock photo. Such as a picture of someone with their watch in a Honda.

I would love to see out-of-production watches like this be redesigned as a face for an Apple Watch. It's unfortunate that I might give up on my watch collection habit now, but the future of the smartwatch is promising.

Who's got a nice watch? Traditional watches only, no smartwatches please.

Looking at them all the time not just to check time :)

Hi everybody, seeing a lot of nice watches I decide to join :D. I'm debating between these two colour schemes, can you give me opinion to which looks better? I'm a student graduating soon so I need a watch both looks professional, casual, easy to see.

Thank you for your opinions!

I like the one with the tan strap and white dial more.

Gorgeous photos. Love the Orient Bambino. The Seagull looks intereting. Cheers

The Seagull is a great little watch. This one is a reissue. The original has a pretty interesting backstory.

I just got back from a watch show a little bit earlier this afternoon, and couldn't resist taking a few quick snaps of my "prizes"-or more correctly projects I don't have time for-of the day.

The best find of the day was the center movement in the picture-it is a 20 size Waltham. It's mostly complete and has a perfect dial. I'll probably switch the dial with the one on my complete, cased 20 size(which has a small hairline below the seconds bit). I'll then probably fix this one up(it's actually not in too bad of shape, and I think I have most of the missing parts) and Ebay it.

The one on the left is a Civil War era Waltham PS Bartlett. It needs a little bit of attention, but shouldn't take too much to get running. I think I at least have a dial for it and probably also a winding esustaceon(the metal cup that fits around the winding arbor). Again, this is Ebay fodder.

The far right one is a private label 1857 model Waltham. This one is staying in my collection. It needs a balance staff, and I may end up having to make one for it(the staffs for this particular variant are impossible to find). I have another '57 Private Label(funnily enough, also from Iowa-a state that tends to not turn up many private label watches) that also needs a staff.

The book is also for my personal library. I have a reprint of it that I will still continue using for bench reference, but there's nothing like having the real(nearly 100 year old) book in your possession.

Not much else caught my eye today. I did get excited thinking I'd found a nice, early 18 size Bunn Special, but it ended up being an early Bunn Special dial on a later movement...I'd have bought it for the dial, but the dial had too many problems and the price was too high. I managed to make a deal on a private label 1872 model Waltham, although I don't have it yet. This particular one has frosted plates(rare on a '72 model), as mentioned is a private label(also uncommon on '72s) and is for a jewelry store in Mexico(rare on anything-one of the few I've actually seen). I'm really excited about it.

I just received a somewhat early graduation present from my parents. They actually bought it a couple of years back from my watch show buddy, and I've known about it, but they decided to allow me to wear it to my thesis defense next week.

I'm not a Rolex guy, but when my dad asked me a couple of years back if I would want one, my exact phrase was "The one I like the most is the two-tone Datejust with a Jubilee bracelet and champaign dial." The conversation progressed a little bit further, and I finally said "The next time you see David ...(my watch show buddy, and a childhood friend of my dad's) look at what he's wearing, but without the diamonds."

The next thing I knew, he'd up and bought David's watch. As I said, I'm not crazy about the diamond dial, but the watch will remain special to me and not something that I would ever conceivably sell.

This is a 1980s Datejust, ref. #16013. It was serviced and sold by DeMesy watches in 2010, a reputable dealer of pre-owned Rolexes.

I spent a few minutes this evening adjusting the bracelet on it. I still need to move a link around to get the clasp centered on the back of my wrist, but at least the size is correct.

Needless to say, I'm tickled to death with it. It will likely be the only Rolex I ever own(or at least the only one I keep), as it represents a significant milestone and is a generous gift from my parents.

Congrats fella. That's a nice gift to receive.

Today Amazon delivered a nice milanese bracelet for an incoming watch I'm waiting for so I slapped it on my tourbillion and I think it looks really nice.

With apologies for the poor lighting, here's a quick iPhone shot of my good old Seiko Kinetic:

kinetic600.jpg

It's not much compared to some of the classics in this thread, but it is of immense sentimental value to me. I fell in love with the design when I was still a teen, and I bought it a few years later, as soon as I could afford it. If I remember correctly, this watch was the first >$500 thing I ever bought for myself.

Over the years, it accumulated its share of dents and scratches, but I wouldn't have it any other way. This is how I know it's mine.

My very first time buying a decent watch. Wanted something simple and this Citizen had exactly the features I was looking for at a really good price.

Seagull looks lovely. I like a nice 2 register dial.

I just bought a refurbished 1959 Smiths Empire pocket watch.

Has a new mainspring so really loud tick. Consequently it is banished to my office in the house as my wife cant sleep with it in the room with her.

Been a while since I bought a Rolex. Had a few, GMT Master II, Submariner, SeaDweller (the proper one, not the abomination doing the rounds now), daydate and a few datejusts. Yes I am a watch addict. Good watches but when did they stop putting them on the little leather cushions in the box?

My Oris has also been banished from the bedroom due to it's nocturnal disturbance properties.

Issued to Russian naval commanders in the 70's and 80's and also used by Cosmonauts. I've been after one for ages and finally found one in my price range. This is a reissue and not the original.

Visited a Rolex retailer this morning. Wasn't planning on buying anything but I did. I purchased a Tudor Style (34mm) since I was looking for a vintage-inspired simple watch. The Tudor Style is what I was searching for. It's minimal, clean, elegant, and has a vintage and classic appeal.

The design takes cues from classic watches of the 1950s and 60s that straddle the line between dress and casual wear.

The dial is clean and open, with applied baton indexes to mark the hours. These batons, as well as the hands, are faceted, making it extremely easy to read the time in all kinds of lighting conditions.

Very interesting. I love reading the history of a wristwatch.
