I am leaning towards Seiko lately. Just ordered SPB143 and sailcloth grey strap with omega deployant clasp to get similar setting as attached image (image from Google search).

It is so hard to follow one watch rule as currently on Nomos Metro datum. Both can be suitable for different setting, I hope.
Seiko will be surely for daily tool watch with anti-scratch coating.

Not really a Seiko fan, per se’. However, I like the simplicity of this model…

Yeah, quality is pretty bad compared to 58 or sub. The spec is not consistent and it requires to regulate after out of factory.

But with its price £880 (after 20% off blue light), I should bear with that for now

One of mine. I love big watches.

Very nice! For years I've thought that IWC have been greatly underated, and now owning two I'm even more convinced of that. My second vote goes to Omega rather than Rolex. I feel far more individualistic or 'comfortable' (if you will) wearing either of the first 2 mentioned. In fact I haven't worn a Rolex for some time, and now considering giving mine to my son as imho it's more of a poser's watch. Many may disagree (and that's ok) but I find IWC as a more refined brand of watch. For those who place high average resale value as the most important criteria, I agree Rolex is generally regarded as the winning brand.

You really don't! I have 4 watches (2 Mechanical + 2 Digital) that collectively cost under ~$250 and they are all quality timepieces.

If you are actually interested in getting into watches, let me know what your budget is and what kind of watches you like. I'm sure that me and some others in this thread would be happy to help you out with quality recommendations that are worth your time, money & attention ?
An excellent post which I heartedly agree with! With a little patience and especially a little bit of horological knowledge, one can purchase one or more excellent timepieces to be really proud of. Especially some which won't cost an arm & a leg when it comes to servicing (or repair).

You know, I really need to look into an IWC. Without even looking into the cost, I presumed they were expensive. After all, Lewis Hamilton is a spokesperson for them. So...

PS: I used to use and own a Sinclair ZX Spectrum! Those were the days...

I'd be the first to say that IWC are not exactly 'cheap' watches, but the perception of that word differs from one person to another. As an example a $100 watch may be a large sum for many people, and for others a $1000 watch would be considered as cheap.
One can find a good used vintage automatic IWC for less than 500€ ($560) and often less. One shouldn't overlook a quartz IWC either which should provide greater accuracy than a vintage (or even new) IWC, and without the eventual higher maintenance costs.

PS: Maybe I should change my forum signature to "Sent from my Oric Atmos"....., as I have one of those too. :)

Really a fan of the hard rectangular indices combined with the rectangular hands.

Those plus the straight lugs give the watch a very modern, industrial look & presence without relying on clichéd minimal design trends.
Totally agree. Modern reissue are here to stay, I guess.

My latest addition is a Casio G-Shock (GW-M5610U-1CJF). Although I like mechanical watches too, this is far more practical for me as I have young children. I also like the fact Casio has updated the modules so the date format can be switched to how we like it here in the UK (day/month).

Really nice!
I used to wear Casio's at work back in the 80's and 90's. I found them extremely useful and practical, although a little fragile (I was pretty rough with them).

I've seen a lot of sailcloth straps around recently and the look has really grown on me. Thinking of getting one for my own Seiko now.

Where did you buy your strap from?
I got it from Artem strap. They posted from Adelaide, Australia.
Theirs is quite a good quality but a tad bit pricey.

Jeez yeah you weren't kidding about the price there. I got a brand new Seiko SNKL23 for $3 less than the price of their quick release straps ?

I'll keep my eyes open for slightly cheaper alternatives because I do really dig the sailcloth look. Thanks for the recommendation though, Artem does seem to be doing it the best right now!

I’m kind of just getting into watches and the different styles. I find myself spending hours going down one rabbit hole and then another!

Here’s a kind of general question for the many watch enthusiasts here.

Is it wrong to have a leather strap on a diver watch?
I know the purists will say it’s wrong.
