M1 Ultra 128GB / 4TB here and still zipping away. I've expanded external fast M2 storage but other than that it rarely gives out.

m1 macbook air here purchased March 2021... 4 years later it still feels snappy. Kind of annoyed as I'd like an excuse to get an M4 but don't feel the need!
Same here with my 16/512GB MBA M1 (the one with the extra core option).
This machine is my overall best Laptop buy so far - still no need to upgrade.
The only thing i do not understand: battery health Apple 89% vs. coconut 94,5%

Good machine… probably the only upgrade people would do is if they have like the base m1 model… 8gb and 256gb and they want more…

MacBook Air M1 works amazingly today! I love it, Best Buy in my life, as fan of MacBook Air line I will stick to the Air for many years to come, but the real problem is macOS itself

So I gave in and picked up a 13 inch M4 MBA from the Apple Store today and the short story is that it's going back on Monday.

Couple of reasons for returning it. Firstly the person serving me at the Apple Store made a mistake and give me a Midnight one when I'd asked for Sky Blue. To say that the darker colour of the Midnight is a fingerprint magnet is an understatement. Secondlly coming from an MBP the sound on the MBA was slightly underwhelming. It's still better than the majority of other laptops out there but it's hard not to hear the shorcomings when it's next to your MBP!

Once the return is complete I'll decide between sticking with the M1 or going for an M4. Costco in the UK has a couple of good deals on at the moment and I'm loathed to pay over £200 extra just to shop in an Apple retail store.

I have the base M1 Air but with 16GB of unified memory ... only two things that bother me are the storage (can attach an external drive... and plan to create a NAS anyway... unfortunately no dosdudes are around me 😆)

and native external display support... yeah I used DisplayLink adapter before, but it's not really ideal when you want to e.g. use Udemy or stream Netflix, Apple TV+ etc. ... you have to disconnect it... now I have a single 32:10 ultrawide

of course I'd love to have 14" M4 Max MBP ... but that is a bit beyond what I am willing to pay for a computer

was thinking about just replacing the laptop with Mac mini as I also have base model 12.9" M1 iPad Pro ... but iPadOS still isn't really ready to replace desktop OS

Yeah, it's hard to downgrade to the Air's speakers when you're used to the MBP.

These are just my M! devices - M1 MacBook Pro 16GB RAM is still rocking long with radio signal decoding, and misc stuff. I have an M1 Ipad Pro it is doing its thing just fine. I suspect they will remain usefully for quite some time.

My beloved M1 Air 16GB 256GB is going STRONG.

I use it literally every day, and battery is still amazing. Just like the day I had bought it.
Sequoia runs smooth and I have faced 0 major problems.

I keep looking for reasons to upgrade from it, but I feel like I'm far from hitting the ceiling on this thing. Even with multiple Android and iOS emulators, safari with 40+ tabs, and a development server, an IDE this thing never slows down. Infact I have to STRESS my memory to recall when it had slowed down. It even does AI stuff flawlessly! (the one that fit in it's memory. It wasn't even there when this machine was introduced!). Such a remarkable product.

I've accidentaly dropped it, my little one has sat on it, it has been through extreme summer heat (without AC), tt has endured world's most cramped railways, bumpiest of scooter rides, little bit of rain, dust, and whatnot. I've played AAA games on it, AA games on it, and everything in between.

It. Just. Keeps. Going.

We have 4 M1 MBA 2020 16GB / 256GB (wife + two 17 y/o school kids + one 19 y/o student), all doing great.
- the student one uses VMWare so 256GB storage is almost full
- CPU performance is quite adequate for all users
- the wife is happy
- all units sequoia 15.3.2 no issues
I see no reason to upgrade and hope to reach 2028 or so

Myself I have M1 Max 16” 64GB / 1TB, use it as daily driver for my photography business and no complaints whatsoever. Hope to get to 2030.

I have an M2 MBA and I agree it has been the best laptop purchase I have ever made.

Still runs as good as when I first bought it. Also been thinking of upgrading but every time I do I just don't see it as a need yet.

People will argue over specs and say the screen sucks or the speakers suck and you should just get a pro.

I might when I upgrade but I really like the screen and speakers are also really great. For a laptop it just works perfectly. Sure I could want pro motion or a six speaker set up. It would be nice. But the 4 speaker setup is actually really high quality sound. The basic 60hz LCD could be better but for an LCD screen it is really nice. The M2 chip keeps humming along nicely.

I have a midrange model with 16gb ram and 512gb ssd and I have never had any issues with either yet.

I am actually consistently impressed with just how fast a fan-less thin and light Mac actually is. The form factor for me is one of the things that I continue to enjoy to this day!

Yes, M1 Air 8/8 with 16GB. Still works great. I may pick up an M4 Air when it is launched but could also wait for M5.

I did get an M4. My employer paid for a portion with “use it or lose it” money so it made sense. The M1 was performing amazing in day to day tasks all the same, such a superbly capable machine.

14” M1 Pro base model here, it’s well over three years old now but I can’t find any reason for me to upgrade it. Runs Civ7 like a champ too with reasonable fan noise. Probably one of the best computer purchases I ever made, and I think it will last me another three years at least.

My office Studio M1 Ultra still seems to have more power than my M4 MBPin most daily tasks.

My employer provided to me an M2 air with the exact same config (16/512) to use for three years.

They originally handed me a windows laptop (a couple of years before that), but I soon returned it and decided to use my old 2013 retina MBP for work instead. Now that I have the M2 air, for an all-Apple guy like myself this MacBook raises my digital workplace to cloud nine.

I like the M2 air sound. It’s not quite as rich as my M1 Max 16” sounds, but the difference is minute compared to the squeaky sound of my old 2013 MBP. I mean really. Sound quality has improved drastically over the last 10 years.

I did upgrade my M1 Air for school to an M4 Air last week, though I'm still using my M1 mini to run the big touchscreen in my classroom and will for the foreseeable future! The only reason I ended up upgrading was the RAM - 8GB was getting a big tight as my usage of the machine has evolved over time, and the 16 provided in the M4 is working beautifully. If I'd gotten a 16GB M1, I'd likely still be using it but four years of daily usage in my classroom ain't too shabby!

Congrats on the M4, you made a great choice! Your 8GB M1 deserves a second life. At least 5 more years I’d say. Maybe you could pass it to a good student who can’t afford a laptop.
Definitely, the old girl's still got plenty of life in her. I'm likely selling it to an old friend of mine that's in the market for something newer than the 2011 MBP she's been using for the last 13 years :D

If not, it will certainly find itself a new role. I tend to keep machines running far longer than normal :p

Sale to a friend fell through, so it's been repurposed as my main personal laptop for toting about and general usage when I want something nice and small to tote around. I'm debating having it replace my 2016 12" rMB in that role, but we'll see if it manages to supplant it. I'm hopeful, as goodness I love this M1.

My 14” MBP 10 Core M1 Pro 16/1TB is still going strong. With 8P cores this thing is a real workhorse. It’s lasted longer than any previous laptop I’ve owned.

I reckon I’ll be holding out for the M6 Pro with redesigned body. Hopefully it’s lighter, thinner and they swap out the HDMI port back for an extra USBC.

purchased a M1 ipad pro 2TB 16GB RAM in 2022 - a perfect device...

purchased a M1 MBP Pro 16" 2TB (maybe a rnot correctly refurbished one from third party, which has been sold to me as a new one?) as well.
returned the MBP because of issues... used my M1 iPad and continued to use my old MBP 15" mid 2015...

The sadness about the Problems with the M1 MBP disapperaed because the M1 iPadPro 2TB 16 GB runs very well.
Even the iPadPro gets used now 90% as the main computer with a third party keyboard.

Maybe I´ll try a M1 MBP again - but I dont feel need to do so... the next MBP will be a M1 Pro or Max 16" with 4TB, 32 or even 64 GB and performant GPU. Maybe in a year or two..... That will then be my MBP for another 5-10 Years...
