It depends on what you are using it for.
In my case, my Air is mostly docked (3 x USB-A, 2 x USB-C, DisplayPort, HDMI, Ethernet) and I use an external screen most of the time. The Air's display is only used for Teams chat window and when I am traveling to other sites for work, so the lighter weight (especially when riding my bike to/from the office) and portability is more important than the display and the speakers are used very rarely as well... I used to use it in meetings a lot as well, but I mainly use the iPad Air M2 the company gave me these days for taking notes.
My MBP at home is also docked, but I use it as a laptop more often, so the screen is more important there.
I agree, if you are doing photo, video work etc. on the move and colour accuracy is more important, then the MBP is a no-brainer. If you are just using standard office applications and a little more portability is required, the Air is a better fit. I like both and I was very torn, when I swapped my Mini out for the MacBook Pro, the screen, plus the fact the Air M4 still hasn't been released swayed me, at work I'm still waiting for the Air M4 to drop (plus the company wouldn't spring for a MBP anyway - mine is the only Apple laptop currently and the majority of the Windows laptops cost under 1,000€, so getting a 3,000€ laptop wouldn't fly.
