16" M1 Pro 16/512. Bought it at launch.

"Upgraded" last year when I saw that MicroCenter had an Open Box of the same spec (just in silver) of an Apple Certified Refurb 16" M1 Pro. It was only $200 more than my trade-in value, so I basically paid $200 for a new battery and refreshed Apple warranty. I threw AppleCare on it so I can definitely get another couple years if not more out of it.

Seems to run a bit better on Sequoia for some reason, like a new life.

For comparison, picked up a 14" M3 Max last year for travel. It's a beast of a machine and definitely quicker than the M1 Pro--but hate the battery life. Kind of a wash for portability, given that I need an outlet more often. Will likely switch to a base M4 Air or Pro instead since my audio production needs don't need as much power as I thought they might.

Keeping the M1 Pro.

I bought my mbp 15 2021 model, in 2022.
My intentions are to keep it in full use, at least until 2030!

@sifpilsen, funny, Tiger is what it was loaded with when I got it. I downgraded it to Panther to experience Panther first hand, and for now, I plan on leaving it there. I am slowly accumulating more and more Panther-compatible software. In the end, I may have quite a nice system
Sound like you already have a 'quite nice system' to me ;)

Base M1 MacBook Air (2020) here that's working just as nicely as when I first bought it. No complaints whatsoever and I see no reason to upgrade (I don't play games on it or do anything super intensive).

I have an M1 Pro MBP and I have not noticed any slowdowns since the day I bought it. Apple Silicon is the best thing Apple has released in the last 5 years, especially given how efficient it is battery wise.

I "upgraded" from a 8gb m1 air to a 16gb m1 air. Upgraded because 256GB on my base m1 mac was getting full and got a 512, still running fine.

MBA M1 13 base model, i am still happy with my notch free experience. I changed my mind about to buy a new m2/m3 with more ram. Sequoia works fine on it.

Honestly I have notch and I don’t care… just use a darker wallpaper if you are scared and you will never see the notch !

I still have my M1 MBP 16" with 1TB 16GB. Still running perfect today. I don't use it on battery power so the capacity has dropped to around 86% or so with about 31 cycles.

I just picked up a used 14" MacBook Pro with 32GB RAM to replace my 2015 MacBook Pro. It's so incredibly fast and the screen is gorgeous. With 32GB of RAM, I expect it will suit my modest needs for at least 4 years.

I am currently testing 128 GB M4 max along with my M1 Max 64 GB. I got a good deal with almost 800$ off. Still have few days to decide if I am keeping m4 max along with my M1 Max.

128 with m4 max is too much for most people!

I ordered my 16" M1 Pro, 1 TB, 32 GB about a month after launch. It is rolling along nicely, though, tbh, I don't need this much horsepower these days. Back then, I assumed I'd be ready to upgrade when M5 models launched, but now? I'll be driving this machine for as long as OS security updates are available, most likely, as it is showing zero signs of wear in my usage.

128GB sounds good. M5 Max is due Fall this year, so my M1 Max 64GB 4TB MBP can soldier along for a bit longer.
RAM is becoming a problem for me. I don’t see Apple releasing 256 GB MBP. I am budgeting for an M4/M5 ultra with 256 GB to replace my 5 year old Linux workstation. Nvidia 5090 has been so underwhelming.

Not for me, I consistently need 150 GB memory. I agree for a casual user it is too much. But for pro use cases, 128 GB unified memory is great.

Ok you are a pro max ultra user

I had both a M1 24” iMac and 16” M1 Max MBP. Seeing the deals on Amazon, including Studio Display thought the deals were good enough to motivate me to get rid of the iMac and go to significant faster 14” M4 Pro 14/20 MBP with the Studio Display. Didn’t see the same advantages going with equivalent M4 Pro Mac Mini, such as both battery based. Now two laptops, one significantly faster for daily usage replaced the small iMac , which was more performance constrained, and the other to use for the foreseeable future until not supported.

I don't think there will ever be an apple laptop as reliable as the M1 MacBook Air. I have had mine since Dec of 2020. Mine started having a problem with the USB C port and the battery started dying quickly. I just replaced both the battery and the port. Now I will enjoy it for years to come. I do not plan on upgrading until apple stops updating this model. Likely will get a MacBook Pro once this one stops getting updates. I will probably keep this is a secondary laptop and install linux once it stops getting updates.
