I thought that defaults to being off, or at least it was on mine aside from Quick Start Transfer settings from mini 5 and upgraded to 15.1 b3. But yeah that can make it dim.

I setup the mini 6 as new and I’ve just been adding things as I go along. I don’t use it for all the same things as my bigger iPads so I figured I’d just setup as new to minimize the crud.

I normally have the Accessibility shortcut for Reduce White Point in Control Center on my devices so I can quickly enable/disable depending on the environment. Hadn’t added it to the mini 6 yet so entirely possible I manually enabled it during night time reading and forgot to disable after.

Maybe I just got a dud? The mini is 500 mitts and the iPad Pro is 600, so shouldn’t be a huge difference? Strange. It was just really dim! Kind of like when you iPhone is overheating dim….

One wonders how consistent it is device to device, across models.
They do go out of their way to mention the nits stated are “max brightness” and also “typical” numbers.

Definitely leaving some ambiguity there...certainly possible your particular one wasn’t a great sample in this regard.

Just checked mine under reasonably bright overcast and it was quite usable. Not up to my 2021 12.9 or iPhone 12 Pro Max, but I would not at all characterize it as dim.

I was just really shocked to use the iPad Mini yesterday outside in cloudy weather, and it was soooo dim, seems odd to pay that much for a device when you can pay a little more for the air or the pro and get something amazing!
The iPad Air and iPad mini are both 500 nits brightness. If you find the mini dim, the Air will be no better.

It is quite hard to get used to this jelly scrolling to be honest. Trying to decide what to do but it isn’t impossible that it will be returned and go the Fold 3 route instead. That thing has an amazing screen compared to the Mini 6.

You have a Pro Max that costs over $1000 and you think it’s “useless” for anything except browsing and texting?

Yeah, the screen isn‘t big enough for much more than short bursts of usage, so 5 minutes here and there while waiting for something. If I know I will be waiting a longer period for something I want to bring a tablet instead, I can’t really travel somewhere with the phone as the only device and so on. That is one of the attractions of foldables really, always having a bigger screen with you so the phone becomes useful and it can be the only device I bring with me.

Read some days ago that you thought you were going to get used to it. What makes you most bothered by it in every day usage?

I get to the point where it doesn‘t bother me and I am kind of used to it, and then I go into some app with pictures or some website and bang it hits me when the entire world shifts. Then it is a chore to try to ignore it on every page to get it to the “doesn’t bother me” point again, rinse and repeat.

So why not just spend half the money and get a mini instead?

The iPhone Mini is even worse the times I am waiting for something and all I have is the phone, and the Max has better battery life. In the end the price difference isn’t something that will make a difference so might as well get the Max.

I kind of got used to the jelly scrolling- for me, it made a difference how close I was to the screen. The closer, the more obvious.
Unfortunately, something about the display still feels super weird- probably the 60Hz.

But I was willing to live with that, as I just love the tablet otherwise.
I still decided to return it today though because my screen also showed the discoloration issue. That’s just too much compromise for the price.

I might try again in a few months, and I really really hope Apple brings a new iPad Mini with ProMotion as soon as possible.

That’s just too much compromise for the price.

Definitely frustrating that they raised the Mini prices by 25%
That certainly has to be factoring into a lot of value equation and keeping it or not decision (per your post above).

Impossible, take a video
It’s really dependent on the HTML page layout, if you have larger fonts for text placed along with multiple regions of images it can be essentially not visible. The worse examples are HTML page layout that consists of nothing but very small font sentences that run edge to edge in portrait. But while some people scroll in flicks others use their finger back and forth hence the text immediately stops faster. So IMHO if one looks at content that it is less evident they could honestly say that.

For myself I can look at a lot of web page layouts and ignore the insignificant screen redrawn issue with normal scrolling. If one is so overly focused on noticing this well it’s not for you then, but most out there really it’s not that much of a concern. This is why you have different opinions. ;)

Get use to not getting what you want at the prices that are higher. From the CNN article, how America ruin Christmas.
The supply chain nightmare that's been plaguing the global economy for over a year is about to snarl the holiday shopping season. Think barren shelves, massive shipping delays, and no small amount of sticker shock. Merry Christmas, everyone!
When you read about delays in manufacturing, it’s tough to think that Apple can maintain the same pricing they always offered as the retool/redesign their devices with the latest AS devices. Most likely next model 2 years from now will include 128GB, but you have to either accept what you offered or stop being frustrated as stores shelves are not populated like pre pandemic. :)

Had a mini 4 128GB 4G, bought a 256GB 5G mini 6 but returned it after 1 week. Now bought a brand new mini 5 256GB 4G for $521 and using that instead.

Y'all are crazy. Phones updating every year yes I can understand. But updating iPad every year or 2 years isn't necessary

Terrible jelly scroll out of the box with normal usage - it cannot be unseen.

A pricey tablet with a cheap display = Returned for refund.

Do I expect it to look as smooth as the iPad pro 120hz display - No.
Do I expect it to look at least equal to any LCD display I have seen before (iPhone, ipads, computer monitors) - Yes.

Shame really as the form factor is awesome.
