I’m having issues with it being sooooo dim outside. Is this normal? Trying to decide if to keep it or get and air or pro insstead.

In full sunlight glare on it yes, it's only a 500 nits brightness display. You can certainly use in the shade outside. The 4th gen air and 9th gen iPad are the same 500 nits displays.

The 11" pro is 600 nits, and the 12.9" pro (mini-LED) is 600 nits/1000 nits max full-screen brightness.

That’s great news if that’s the case. I’m assuming you noticed it more in the previous version of the os?
It would be interesting to see a scientific before/after comparison, rather than anecdotal. Such as videos of each taken with the exact same scrolling speed.
I realize such a comparison is not easy, so not asking for such a thing. But it would be very compelling proof.

It's not a very bright screen, so outside, yes, I'd definitely expect it's rather dim. An Air wouldn't work either, but a new pro would definitely be better.

I even have trouble with my iPhone outside, and it has a brighter screen than the Mini or Air. To tell the truth, I haven't looked at my Flip3 outside, but I expect it wont be so bright either.

Yeah, ipads are not in the same league as 1000 nit phones. Much prefer using my iPhone Pro Max for drone photography in full sun. Can actually just see the screen, although screen brightness will reduce due to overheating after a while

Good points! Thanks

To be candid I can still see it a bit if I hold the iPad mini further away from the face. But being near sighted and holding it the usual distance I look at it its hard to see now is what I am commenting on.
I’m not seeing any change in the jelly scrolling on the latest dev beta

It seems if you happen onto a web page of text that consists of very small font text lines running the full width left to right it the most obvious scrolling continuously up and down. Web Pages such as Mac Rumors that has graphics mixed with a few lines of text that is a larger font in between you won't notice it all. So thanks for the feedback. :)

For me, what I noticed was the poor screen viewing when outside, even inside it seemed kinda bad.....I am returning it for the !3 pro....MAX

In the least way possible, and in a circumstance in which no-one is using their iPad for anything meaningful. If you're scrolling like that, it's because you're trying to get past some content to what you want to see, so it really doesn't matter that the text is fractionally lower on one side than the other.

That’s just an 11 second video to highlight the issue.

If you spend hours reading text then this kind of thing can lead to serious eye strain.

The jelly screen issue is not uncommon on LCD screens but the fact that it is very noticeable proves that the refresh rate is not good with the iPad Mini 6 screens. With all the buzz created, Apple will have this issue fixed in the next model by adding Pro Motion???

Apple should not be charging the high prices for the tiny iPads.

The tiny iPad Mini is just slightly bigger than the iPhone Pro Max.

I have an iPhone Pro Max and it is pointless for me to get the tiny iPad Mini 6. With old be confused high device to use more. Lol

The iPad Mini 6 has a 85% larger screen area so that isn’t “slightly larger”. In fact the Pro Max is closer to the iPhone Mini than the iPad Mini.

Totally disagree with the slightly larger - I have the Mini 6 and 12 Pro Max and their size is significantly different, nothing slightly about it.

It may be bigger but for me to use a device as a tablet when I have a phone which is 6.7”, the tablet should be at least 10” or bigger.

It is just me.

Everyone has a different thinking.

6.7” iphone and 8.3” iPad just did make sense for my needs and usage.

True but we have options of using 11” iPad and 12.9” iPad which makes better sense for my needs and usage.

Others may have different needs and usage.

Size alone doesn't tell the story. The aspect ratio makes a huge difference.

The 8.3" iPad is far bigger than the 6.7" iPhone because of the aspect ratio. Same thing with the 12.9" being far bigger than the 11".

Yeah, everyone is different. I think my 12 Pro Max works for messages and quick browsing, but it’s useless to use for anything more. As for iPad Pros I prefer the 12.9” for everything except using in the hands and then I think the iPad Mini is way better than the 11” Pro.

My other option to the iPad Mini is the Galaxy Fold 3 but I do prefer iOS over Android,

This is the basis of this thread. No one product is ideal for every use. I happen to find the mini 6 quite usable. But I also use various Macs so it’s associated with its size and weight for given usage. Did think calling a 8.3” iPad Mini 6 tiny was funny compared to a 6.7” iPhone Pro Max. :)

I’m keeping it, but wouldn’t fault anyone returning it for any reason. Unlike my old iPad Air 3d gen that this replaced, the mini 6 feels more “half baked” out of the box. Some of this is the new aspect ratio and my discovery that many apps, even native features, aren’t optimized for it. That could get better over time with updates.

I don’t have to love it to live with it. Not many options in this size and for what it is, it fits the bill.

I was just really shocked to use the iPad Mini yesterday outside in cloudy weather, and it was soooo dim, seems odd to pay that much for a device when you can pay a little more for the air or the pro and get something amazing!

Brightness seems normal to me. At least it was after I disabled Reduce White Point which was set to 80% in Accessibility. d'oh 🤦‍♀️

I thought that defaults to being off, or at least it was on mine aside from Quick Start Transfer settings from mini 5 and upgraded to 15.1 b3. But yeah that can make it dim.
