  1. Ecosystem - especially with family sharing, iCloud, continuity, backup/restore. Everything just works.
  2. Reliability - my 2010 MacBook's still going strong, and doing everything my mother wants it to.
  3. Ease of support - Apple stores, warranty repairs are painless (and they went above and beyond during COVID-19 with me)
  4. Privacy and security - goes without saying nowadays.
  5. Ease of use - people pick stuff up quickly on Apple devices.
I bought my granddad an iPad 9.7 18 months ago, and he loves it. He hardly uses his laptop anymore, and gets access to all of the music he wants via the family sharing Apple Music sub. Also had no support issues, whereas it was weekly with Windows 7 and 10.

End of the day, ecosystem is what does it for me. I don't want out, I'm happy with everything. HomePod is the device that really "completed" it for me, and it's now central to a lot of things I do with my personal Apple bubble.

I bought my first Mac (a mini) in 2009, and I haven't looked back. I'm really excited about the future that Apple will no doubt have in store for us, it's a pretty cool time to be going through.

For me it’s the ecosystem, everything works well together. I can use my AirPods Pro with my Apple Watch when I go for a morning run, when I get back home I can look at the stats on my iPhone. Also the software experience, I have encountered a couple of bugs a few times and IOS 13 was not perfect, however I do still think that Apple’s software is executed better than the competition.

1. Software is reliable. Apple gives a long term coverage for software side.
2. Ecosystem is nearly flawless on Apple products.
3. It is very satisfying to use software and hardware.

My first Apple product was an iPhone 4. I had never even seen, let alone used an Apple product before that. Ever since, I've been compelled to buy more and more Apple stuff and have experienced all the ecosystem delights they bring. Sure, they cost more, they have their flaws, but they last long, they are reliable (thankfully even the 2018 MBP with a butterfly keyboard on which I'm typing this), and there is something about the user experience as a whole that keeps me within the so-called walled garden. My current iPhone was bought 5 years back and it runs iOS 14 betas pretty smoothly for the most part! Although I'll be definitely buying the 12 pro when it comes out, i wonder which other phones can last 5 years in this age. So....I guess I've given my reasons.

1. Build quality and superior materials (it feels nice knowing your device is made from metal and glass, not just two kinds of plastic glued together)

2. Longevity (you can buy an Apple device and be sure it will get support for years to come)

3. Tight integration between hardware and software (Mac OS was made for mac, not just for any computer, same thing with iOS and iPhone)

4. Tight integration between devices (iCloud)

5. Habit (I’ve been an Apple user since 2005, my first device was an iPod mini. To be honest: I just have no clue how to shop for a windows computer or non-Apple smartphone/tablet, no frame of reference so to speak)

I think it was tongue in cheek lol

Two iPhones though, are they differing sizes for different occasions?
She had a 5-year-old piece of junk Android and I just bought her an iPhone XR and we've been having a blast with FaceTime and Memojis and stuff. :)

Simple, elegant, well-thought software. Upgraded from windows in 2011 which has too many security threats, crashes, not well-integrated, cluttered designs, too many ways to attempt to do same things (which ultimately all have shortcomings), did I say crashes?

A handful of reasons:
  • Reliability - Have you ever had an iPhone or iPad brick on you? These things last forever and they are well-built phones too. If you are not jailbreaking and you are not doing crazy things to these devices, they keep working 24/7. Even their desktops and laptops are reliable too (barring the butterfly keyboard debacle). I never had a laptop with a swollen battery or reports of inconsistent charging.
  • Ease of use - Goes hand in hand with reliability. Everyone has seen or heard the anecdote about how simply the iOS interface is, that even a baby can use iOS. Makes it easy to get grandparents or anyone else not familiar with technology into technology.
  • Customer support - They don't ask you if your device is under warranty or anything. If you contact customer support, they will always try to help you first and if something needs repairing, only then will they check the warranty status of the device. Otherwise, if something can be fixed through software, Apple support is more than helpful in guiding you through the steps in fixing your issue for free (even if the warranty has expired on the device).
  • And even for minor things, like iPhone cases, even if the item doesn't meet the warranty criteria, Apple support is more than helpful in creating exceptions and swapping out the old with the replacement for free.
  • Hold its value for a long time - When was the last time you bought a PC or a Windows device and sold it as used and retained about 70-80% of its value after 4-5 years? Never.

Self imposed lock in:

1/ iMessage (live in bay area and for 95% of clients it's the easiest way to receive documents easily and securely)

2/ the family movie library we've accumulated in my "residence"

Once there's a 6-8 core, arm mac mini with 16gb of ram that costs $1000 or less i'll be willing to pay the 300-400 premium over the equivalent PC for my home too because of the cascading benefits of the ecosystem.

Forgot to mention notifications. Least I know I get them on time with IOS. Every time I use android they are delayed by 7-10 mins and they all come through at once which drove me mad...if it wasn’t for this chances are I would be using android know as hardware is great and you can make the phone as you want it

I like how everything works together. Pretty much an all Apple household now. I have an Asus laptop that I've always liked but I rarely use it now. When I do, I always have to think about most actions I take on it. I went to save a file on it a while ago and it took me about five minutes to figure it out. I know Apple and don't need to know anything else so I don't.

Longevity and privacy mainly. At least when it comes to phone and tablet but I'm looking forward to buying my first Mac when my linux/Windows desktop finally dies.

1. Value. Apple makes quality products that last longer than those of their competitors, especially Macs versus PCs. In recent years the quality has dropped to the point of almost forcing me away from another Mac (the higher cost is only worth it if the quality is there too), but they seem to have righted that ship.

2. Polish, both of hardware and software. As a lifelong Mac user you learn to expect little touches in how hardware and software behave in Apple products to make your tasks easier. When I try other platforms I realize things aren’t thought through enough to be as intuitive as I’m accustomed.

3. Familiarity. I grew up on the Mac and so to switch to Windows would be to abandon a great deal of muscle memory I’ve had since early childhood. I’ve had Windows machines alongside my Macs off and on, even some I’ve enjoyed owning, but there’s always a feeling like I’m speaking a second language.

4. Interoperability and the “halo effect.” Knowing, especially now with the switch to Apple Silicon, that tasks and files can flow easily between my Mac, iPhone, iPad, and Watch is very compelling and, say, switching to Android for a year would be akin to losing use of a limb when trying to juggle files. AirDrop and AirPlay are massively valuable features.

5. Design. There are some PCs with nice design, like Dells and the Surface. But only Apple’s design team refines, refines, refines until a product is as pure in concept as possible.

Customer support is #1 for me. They are by far the best I've dealt with compared to other companies. Quality of product and eco system are 2nd and 3rd.

I Was Windows all the way until 2007, always though Apple were just a side player until I bought an iPod touch, loved the intuitive way it worked, right after that I bought an iPhone then thought what's they're computers like? and since then no going back! Better user experience, better functionality, and most of all top of the class customer service, i've yet to see a situation they won't help you with, had a 2012 MacBook pro that had constant kernal crashes it was 18 months old, they fixed it free of charge even though it was out of warranty, try that with a PC!

I only buy it if it looks and works the way I like. Well, I depend on Macs cause I'm a designer but even if I weren't I would still but it because I'm so used to Mac OS.

Now as for the iPhone, I was the one in line for the original iPhone launch, there really was no competition. Then the iPhone 6 happened and I hated the design so I started looking into Android. So glad Samsung exist because their phones were more beautiful (S8 and up) and I'm spoiled by Samsung's features.

I’ve been using Macs since I bought my first, a PowerMac 6115 back in ‘94. Although I first used a Macintosh in 1986 while in college, as a roommate had one and I was blown away by the WYSIWYG UX, especially compared to my school‘s then mainframe computer with its archaic programming requirements in order to use it.

Since then, I’ve worked in companies that used both PC’s and Macs, but have always had Macs as my home computer, even if I was working on a PC for work. As far as cell phones go, I owned first generation bag phones, followed by a long list of ever smaller and better cell phones from Motorola and Nokia and I think the last cell phone I owned personally, was a really cool Sanyo. Then I started using Palm Treos, before finally buying my wife and I each a first gen iPhone and we haven’t looked at or considered anything else since then.

The ease of use is one main reason I keep using Apple products. But tied directly to that, which Apple has improved over the years, is how seamless you can move from iMac to MacBook to iPad to iPhone to Watch. It makes it impossibly easy to continue to buy into Apple hardware universe as each device works like the others. And then when you factor in that devices themselves last almost longer than many people want or need them to, it makes for a compelling reason to buy and use Apple products.

The Mac provides a bash shell plus access to apps I can't get with Linux. That is the main thing for me. Windows is no use to me for my work, so was never a consideration.

My phone is Android because I value the greater flexibility - though iOS 14 is an improvement, and Apple's recent support for small phones with current internals is something hard to find in Android, so never say never. I do like Apple's hardware (apart from the butterfly keyboard, which doesn't need going over here).

I don't invest in "ecosystems" on principle as I'm too aware that their primary purpose is to lock you in to a particular manufacturer's products or services, so the integration between different Apple devices is not a factor either way in my choices.

(in no particular order...)

- Quality.
- Long-term reliability / support.
- being able to go to a store and speak to someone when something is wrong.
- ease of use / relative lack of friction.
- average quality of apps on the platforms is high.
- strong privacy focus.
- strong design ethos.
- strong ecosystem support.

Sincerely,

I’ve been buying Apple products since I was 16 years old (iPod Touch; iPod Nanos)

Now comes the time where I can actually buy more of Apple, just wondering how others have come here to talk about Apple and why they choose to buy their products.

Cheers 🍻

Windows, Linux, and Android are capable of doing what I need to do, and often more economically, but I don't enjoy the experience. OSX matches my personal preference for how a personal computer should work and the software I use on my phone tends to have better iOS counterparts. I use a computer for most of my waking hours, so I may as well enjoy it.

As a side-note: I think it's worthwhile trying other tech, too. I bought my current 6s Plus in 2015, switched to a Nokia 7.1 in 2019, switched to a Pixel 3A a few months later, and then went back to the 6s Plus after I decided Android wasn't a good fit for me. I did a similar thing with Windows and built a great PC, but I only really use it for gaming these days and bought a Mac Mini as my daily driver.

Macs are pretty standard in my industry, and I got an iPhone because Apple makes the only good smartwatch.
