I want to like it so badly, but if they are going to still have the chin (which I don't mind) at least put the apple logo on it. it just looks like a PC from the front, barely identifiable as a Mac. or even make the entire front white instead of the split color

Think they just wanted to emphasise the pale pastel aesthetic. Not my cup of tea personally and I think a space grey model with black bezels wouldn’t have gone amiss. I agree if not the Apple logo the front should have had ‘iMac’ written the same as the MacBooks. It looks a bit bootleg without any visible branding (ymmv I feel the same way about my 2015 MBP).

Agree that the word 'iMac' would have looked better (and would match the old iMacs these are based on iirc).

What's the obsession with being able to see the Apple logo? Do people need to be reminded of who made their computer? 😂
I think of it more as a tradition kind of thing they have put the apple logo on the front for so long why take it away? it doesn't even have to be the apple. like stated above, it could have iMac written. but something would have been better than nothing imo.

I don't look for a logical reason in Apple's design anymore. They seems to make decisions and stick with ones that not so many people complained about. I bet all my money that the next year iMac will have an Apple logo on the chin and black bezel.

The solution from Click and Clack, the Tappet brothers.

iMacs have had black bezels since 2007. Time to change it up a little. Looks great. And for product placement in movies and TV shows, a busy office with various colored iMacs on desks will be an attention getter. Apple is confident the look will be iconic so it doesn't need a logo on the front anymore. Lots of people are big on their "favorite color." So they'll jump on a purple Mac, a green Mac, etc. Boring silver and gray are so last-decade.

It's so that they can make space grey an iMac pro option only. White bezels will signify inferior consumer products and space grey / black will be reserved for the superior pro products.
Yeah this, they seem to be making the entry level/ consumer products more playful in design while their super sleek/ gunmetal/ stealth jet designs are for the upper end/ pro stuff. While this iMac isn't to my taste it's not necessarily a bad thing I guess, the last generation of MacBooks looked too samey IMO. A bit of variety and choice is welcome.

They probably went with white bezels because it looks better with the pastel colors. Or at least gives it a “softer” image.

I like it personally, but I do think the silver version should’ve had black bezels. The white bezels just don’t look as good with the silver.

Novelty is my guess but to not even offer a black bezel option is what’s bonkers to me

especially since all X style phones were black bezel, Se2 black bezel, the product red 8 black bezel from 7 product red being white only

I’m sure dbrand or someone will offer a touch up decal for converting it to black but it legitimately boggles my mind

I think white bezel old style iPads can look cool same with old style iPhones but again lack of choice - I would love to have been a fly on the wall in the meeting room in Cupertino to understand the thinking

others think it’s to upsell a 27” replacement like how 24” is the 21.5” replacement but still. Even entry pro and the MacBook Air are black bezels and m1

the m1 iPad Pros as well
I think they did it to (hopefully) make it more younger family attractive (color options with white bezel).

Whilst not a fan of the white it does match the pastel shades. A black border with those colours would look even worse and if they made the bezels the same colour as the chin I doubt that would look great either.
Should have had black bezels for the silver version in that case.

You know it is a Mac. That is really all that is important. Does it matter if others don't know it is a Mac right away?

My guess is that they’re trying to go with a fun and somewhat throwback / retro look to the old colourful iMac look. Somewhat refreshing and bright in a sense.

And by doing that, I bet that they’re lining up an iMac Pro (30-32”) to replace the current 27”, and maybe do darker colours (similar to some iPhone Pro options) with black bezel.

Either way though, the missing  logo on the front feels off. Likely because we’ve been used to seeing it on the chin for well over a decade.

It's a part of Apples world changing decision that lures us consumers into becoming addicted to Apples ecosystem. Which I will agree perfectly beforehand. Lol

My first Apple product was an iMac G5, in 2004 maybe? The whole thing was white, and I loved it. I'm happy to get a bit of a throwback for a few years.

I’m not sure whether I prefer black bezels. But I do think since they chose to keep the chin they should have put a logo on it.

In a way this posts answers your own question. Why did they make those changes? Because without them you just have the same imac as before with colors. And they were trying to make it look like they make something new.

I'm not sure that the bezels are white. Digging around a bit seems they are more of a neutral gray, rather than paper white.
