I am surprised that a one year old thread has been revived :) Oh well, I just want to comment on the highlighted text. As much as I like this site, having been a member for 6 years like you, that comment is hugely erroneous. Xda-Developers, not just for those into rooting and flashing ROMs, is a huge source of general comments on a vast array of phones, troubleshooting tips etc. This section is not remotely comparable for Android.

I only go there if i want to root or find something specific i cant find here. XDA takes a long time to find things o imo. You have to sift thru a lot of things.

Yeah, that has always been a problem with XDA. I've been there since the Windows Mobile/Palm days. Too much going on, and it overwhelms you. Androidforums is better discussion wise.

And not all Android guys are jerks. It really depends on what section you're in.

If you've ever visited any of the popular Android forums you'll understand. Way less bickering and childish behavior here. And much more intelligent discussion too!

Why is this such a big deal to you? You are posting in a section of the forum that is labeled "alternatives to iOS" or something like that. What do you expect people to be talking about here? I am not real sure what you have a complaint about.
Bingo!

Why should the OP care? It is labeled alternatives to iOS. What are subforums supposed to do? Praise and talk only about Apple products. Maybe the OP is the one acting insecure.

I don't care for Apple but do own two iPhones - an old 3G and excellent conditioned 5s. Prior to last month, I owned no Apple products for 9 months. Should that mean I shouldn't post here? I've lurked here since 2004 and registered here since 2010. I owned iPods and iPhones and quite knowledgeable with iOS since the 1.x.x days when I jailbroke my old iDevices.

OP is acting like posting here is for special people like some exclusive club for only Apple products. It is a public forum. Freedom of speech. It isn't like these Android users are trolling and bashing iOS all day.

There are definitely more childish and ignorant (about android) posters in apple forums.

This is to be expected since many ios users have never used any android before. I think most android users have much more experience with ios devices than vice versa.

Because most Android users are ex iPhone users. The Google G1 was a horrible device next to the iPhone and pretty much everything else too until ICS and the Galaxy Nexus. I just think the quality of posts made here is far greater than that of forums elsewhere.

Hahaha NONE of these, I have to laugh when people accuse me of working for Samsung or have a Galaxy phone, the TRUTH is I do not own a SINGLE Samsung product.
No I speak the truth and try to remind people their are alternatives out there, and I dismiss the false ideology around Android as best I can.

You'll also have to pry my MacBook Pro out of my cold dead hands pretty much, chances are if you see a comment by me on here, it's made on my MAC, not Samsung or Windows but my MAC.

I have owned 3 iPhones and 3 MacBook Pro's. So in total I must have spent over seven grand on Apple hardware over the last few years.

So remember that when you see me post, I consider myself to have spent enough of my hard earned cash to come here and applaud Apple when I want and to criticise them when I want.

As for an Android only users posting here, well that could be because they googled for something and a thread on this site was at the top of the list in Google. Plus if it's a big site you know you'll get a response, I post on TouchArcade a lot because it's a damn good site for info, been trying to help an Android gaming site get of the ground but it hasn't done yet which is a shame.
You have XDA Developers of course but that's really more for talking issues and customer ROMS etc, but they are also a friendly and INCREDIBLY knowledgeable bunch.

Although I use an Android phone, my wife has an iPhone and a number of family members do as well. I'm pretty much the tech support person for my family. I have found some solutions to some issues here on this forum.

I am interested in mobile technology and like discussing mobile tech. This seems to be good place to talk about not just iOS devices, but also Android and others. The other tech forum I frequent is focused mainly on Android and there is very little discussion about iOS and others. Here there is a specific forum for discussing different mobile technology.

Just recently, I also started using an iPhone for work. I now have more insight about both iOS and Android than before and do enjoy discussing both.

If I had to guess, being that this is a Mac forum, you have all the people who own Apple COMPUTERS, but not mobile devices. XDA and AndroidForums aren't there for people on PC's except as an "off topic" board, so you won't have that kind of crossover.

I just scrapped my iPad and iPhone, but I love my Macbook Pro.

You had me apolloa until you said the guys over at xda were a friendly bunch. :D

Well they've been friendly from what I've seen? But I've only used the 2012 Nexus 7 part.

I've been a member over there since 2009 and nothing really against xda but it's not a friendly place if you're either a newbie or have limited technical skill.

Yeah, some people think they really were born knowing everything :D

Yea, that sums it up lol

Xda doesn't allow a lot of discussion. Terrible forum.
WPCentral ppl are too bias with their windows phone. Anything also feel wp8 is superior
Maybe crackberry is ok

Close to this I would imagine.

Mac users who got into the non-AT&T droid market.
Mac users who had iPhones but switched to android.
iPhone users who switched to android (me)
People with cross platform usage (also me)

Yeah. This site probably has a lot of Apple computer/laptop users that don't like iOS. On an Android site, why would someone be there if they didn't own any Android devices?

The bottom line is that someone can speak out about things they dislike about a company they like and use at least some of their products.

Although logical, not 100% true. I see people on here who have Android phones and use them as their daily devices get heavily criticized for even mentioning one slightly negative thing about their Android phone or Google.

I have a Nexus 5 and in my opinion is the best phone for my needs that is available at this time. But I have also spoken about its flaws. It seems whenever I do people flock to tell me how wrong I am to have some sort of criticism of the phone I use. Apparently most people have trouble understanding the fact that you can enjoy a product and be critical of its issues at the same time.

I read macrumors forums to learn about my devices, and I read this subforum to learn about the features other brands are bringing to the table. But i'm a bit peeved with how many threads there are on users that try to convince us on what phone we should be buying. Or maybe to convince themselves?

Reassurance posts, inferiority complexes, or paid shills for other companies?

How many people who prefer iOS feel the need to go to Android forums and do the same thing? The largest Android forum has a subforum for iOS and other devices, with a whopping 200 threads, and threads from last year on the first page.

Note the locked "Thinking about switching to an iPhone" thread :(

Because lots of Android users have Macs? If you were unable to work that one out...well... Ahem.

----------

Because most Android users are ex iPhone users. :

Maybe on this site it's true but in general the vast majority of android users are not ex iphone users!

Because Android forums are not as busy as this one. Well, XDA is... But it depends on the device. Nexus 5 is always busy.

Generally most geeks use android phones and they are active in all tech forums android, ios/mac, windows. Both OSes have ups and downs, at the end of the day it's just a phone, why anyone thinks someone would feel inferior if they don't own an apple device is beyond me. I drive a Merc but go to Audi and BMW forums as well, I don't tell people who drive ford / chrysler they should feel inferior.
