This. I am holding off ordering for a while until we know exactly what the watch can do. The 3.0 update to my gen 1 watch has made it into a beast of a piece of tech so I am more than happy to hang on until absolutely compelled to upgrade.

This must be the first update in history to an apple device that hasn't "accidentally" crippled it forcing you to buy the new one.
Good plan although the reason I've pre ordered now (weeks in advance) is that I'll hopefully be close to the front of the queue when delivering. The longer we wait it might not be available until mid November! I can always cancel if it does come to pass that it can't be switched off!

I use a Garmin Forerunner 235 and happy with the functionality and Garmin app i sync on my iPhone. However, it lacks some capabilities the Nike + Apple Watch 2 appears to offer which is a bonus. My main concern is that I know nothing about the Nike + run app and I have no interest in being asked whether Im running and so on. I do want a robust Run App for live time tracking during my run and ongoing logging and array of metrics that my Garmin 235 offers. Does anyone know in detail what the Nike Run App's have to offer? It would be a let down if I had to sacrifice the Garmin Metrics by going to the Nike + watch and I really rather not have to change watches throughout the day. Thanks

I really think Apple and Nike have missed the mark here with the fitness community. I can't believe for one second they wouldn't talk to runners to ask them whether the "are you running" function would be of any use. Most runners don't need this encouragement so I'd be shocked if there wasn't a way to shut this function down. I'm not hugely bothered (I say that now without having the way and daily messages!) by the prospect of reminders but they really should have done a little more marketing to see how this might affect runners. I don't run much but as I've said i train at lest 6 times a week so this "encouragement" wouldn't work for me. Still excited about owning my first AW though!

My Garmin 235 tells me to Move thru the day and frankly, is annoys the hell out of my cause it happens when I'm in meetings at work and driving. Anyone who is fitness minded in 1 way or another probably doesn't need a reminder to move or work out. Not sure how many people find nagging for any reason motivationally up-lifting. I would imagine most of us want Fitness related performance to support our activities with options as to how, what and when its displayed at a minimum. Being late 2016 and all..

While I agree with you that there will likely be an option to turn the reminders off, I think you are assuming the wrong target audience. The reminder feature is useful/appealing for beginners who are just starting to form the habit of training regularly, and I think that's the demographic that's the main target of Apple Watch's fitness functions, and that includes the Nike Watch.

Just ordered one at BB. Yes, it is a wait but that's fine. I like the look of the Nike + and I am a runner. So no worries, patience is a virtue.

i think I'm now leaning towards Stainless Steel Space Grey even though it is a fair bit heavier. Feeling Id like to be able to dress it up a bit more at times. Such a rough life we have with these decisions :)

Once I realized that I was a little late to the game in ordering a AW Series 2, I ordered a Nike but then when I saw AW Series 2 availability at local Apple stores, I decided to get one and see if I liked it (mostly 42mm and the thicker case in question). I picked it up today but while I was there I looked at the Nike bands and honestly, I think the bands look much better in pictures. I know the ventilation is nice to have but not impressed with the bands.

I saw one the other day at an Apple Store. I was there with a friend who was picking up his iphone, and while he was going through the transaction, there was a customer looking at watch bands at the next table. I saw a Nike band in the band drawer, and asked if I could take a look. It wasn't attached to a watch, and I didn't have time to have them put it on a watch so I couldn't try it on, but it looked like the holes are punched closer together than on the regular sports band, making it more adjustable. My wrist size is in between two holes on the regular sports band (one hole is too tight but the next hole is a bit loose), so I'm thinking maybe the Nike band could have a hole position that is just right. As far as looks, I agree it's not special looking or anything. It's a rubber band with lots of hole in it, is all. :D

Not sure what would need to be changed on some perforated rubber bands to make them "impressive" (whatever that means).

I purely meant that I thought they look good in pictures and was the primary reason I wanted the Nike version but I think they look worse than the regular sport rubber bands.

That's good feedback. I did exactly the same as you but I'm picking up my watch at JL tomorrow and will pop into Apple for apple care+ and check out the Nike bands. Once I've got the watch I'll cancel nike order!!

If you want to replace your 235 with the Apple Watch I would wait until iSmoothRun announces full compatibility with the new model. It's the only running app that really has similar functionality to a Garmin watch. Even still, there are a couple of things to be aware of with running with the AW - first the screen is not always on, so there is a bit of a delay when you look to see your stats. I presume this is faster with the new watch, and I learned to live with it on the original watch by delaying looking at the watch by 1/2 a second after I raised my wrist. Second, the lack of an array of hardware buttons can be difficult to live with depending on how much you personally need to interact with the watch during your run. Interval timing, for example, can be difficult.

I bought the AW2 yesterday and the screen comes on about as fast as it takes my eyes to focus on the screen while I'm running, so I think it will be ok. I think the stock app looks like it may display what I need which is Time Elapsed, distance, pace / km & heart rate. My Garmin vibrated for me every km with the split time & I could see it if I looked at my wrist quickly as it didn't remain on the screen for long. My fingers are crossed..

Yep, same. In person the colours are a lot duller. They certainly don't pop like they do in the marketing images. But now that I look at the website images, the aluminium watch itself is a lot more saturated than in person. I guess it's just one of those things where photoshop touchups and monitor settings skew reality a bit.

my problem with the Nike version is that I'm wondering if Nike is going to get their crap together.

So, I ran for 30 minutes today at Orangetheory and used the Apple Workout app. After my run I open Nike+ on my iPhone and see that the run transferred to Nike+... so i go into it, edit it (change name, enter my shoes, etc)... suddenly Nike + has duplicated the run in my Activity list. For no good reason.

Then later I go into my iPhone Activity App and the Apple Workout Run is listed, along with TWO DIFFERENT Nike+ Runs. WHY? Why are my runs being recorded in triplicate?

I want the Watch to talk to Nike when I use the Workout app an I want Nike to report to Health/Activity when I choose to use the Nike app... what i get instead is a giant clusterjunk!

And don't get me started on how the Nike watch app doesn't tell you your pace and time in your ear while you are running. I basically can never use the Nike watch app as a result.

Its totally dumb that on my long outdoor runs I have to use the Nike iPhone app just to get the audio cues, but yet I have to run the Apple Workout app, just to get an instant report of my stats.

If it wasn't for the 5 years of data I have trapped in the Nike+ cloud I'd be so over Nike.
[doublepost=1474505158][/doublepost]one more thing. i saw the nike watches in person and they are beautiful, imo. i'm more fashion minded than sporty in my daily aesthetic (despite my daily running) so it didn't make sense for me to wait for the Nike Watch when I know I wouldn't wear the bands. I upgraded to the SS.

The watch has a PERMANENT Nike complication. I assume that means you cannot remove it from the watch face? That I am afraid is a bit poo. I am undecided between the two watches when I upgrade.

Series 2 (totally customisable as I want it) or Nike edition (app - probably stuck with a crap app when there may be better out there)

The Nike volt green and black strap is awesome though.

Dilemma.
I'm really hoping that Apple makes a watch face store at some point. I'd love a Watch with Hermes and Nike faces, but I don't think that's possible.

They said at the keynote it's not shipping until late October. Not sure why though.

so it will launch at the same time as Apple's new Airpods to go with you run :D

just went to Apple Store and asked about the Nike watch. She literally went to a computer and pulled up the website and just read off of Apple's website. Thanks for the help!!

the Apple store employees never seems to know (or allowed to disclose info) about new upcoming products, it's like they are clueless

went along to the apple shop after buying the watch from John lewis and spoke toa very nice guy who helped me set up watch and we talked nike bands etc He even went to see if I could get some Nike Bands to take away but no luck! The bands are very very nice to be fair and he was under the impression that they would be on sale as a stand alone.

I saw that it comes with 2 new watch faces and I'm still trying to clarify whether the permanent Nike complication refers to those two watch faces only. I'd like the option of not having them there for the other watch faces.

My assumption is that the permanent complication is only on the Nike faces. Basically, it's the same as putting the Hermes logo on the exclusive Hermes faces, except the logo can now actually launch an app. No Hermes logo on the normal AW faces, no [permanent] Nike logo/complication on the traditional faces. The amount of coding that Apple would have to introduce to lock down a Nike complication on every permutation of the watch faces would simply not be worth the hassle. It'll be a normal AW with three extra faces, and each of these faces will have a permanent Nike logo, which just happens to be a complication.
