Depends on the model, I've been a consistent Alienware customer because I like the look, I like to game. And the higher up models have the power I need to game, and do work on the go.

As long as he keeps it dusted out from time to time and doesnt leave it on carpet when the machine is loaded up, it'll be fine. Most Alienware laptops I've owned have been nice and thick with beefy cooling systems.

>Beefy cooling exists in Laptops

Too funny. :D

I have found Alienware's efforts shoddy since Dell bought them. I would never recommend one for... anything really. They are vastly overpriced and are tacky.

Too funny.

Not beefy overall, but for a Laptop, I find Sagers and Alienwares never really have a ton of heat issues. I recently picked up an Alienware M18X Laptop, which is pretty huge, 32gb of ram, blah blah all those nice specs ( ran me about 4200, replaced my old Alienware which had an Pentium D in it lol, it was time for an upgrade ). It has huge cooling intakes in the front ( where those annoying LEDs are ), two on the side, and a huge exahust on the bottom, it gets warm when I'm pushing it for sure. But never to hot to really notice.

Yep, the lower end ones are for sure. But the higher end models are pretty nice, I've always bought Alienware. Yes, Sagers are better. But they look way to boring for something I'm going to carry with me.

I picked one one of these a few weeks ago to replace my aging Pentium D Alienware Laptop ( if you've seen a lot of my posts, I've upgraded my work station at work, my home computer a few months ago, now came this. ) I'm hoping this one will last me another 3-5 years like the first one, the build quailty is pretty good. It runs cool, and looks cool.

Yeah, for anything other than that, get a Sager or an Apple laptop, because I'll admit, even for me its total overkill.

The M14x is a bad example from Alienware. The ASUS G7x models tend to be quiet and cool even at full load. They are a bit thicker though.
