Get the 13”. I was back at the Apple Store yesterday, started playing with the 11”, and websites were displaying as mobile. It was very annoying. But there are many reasons to go 13” as mentioned.
I wish desktop websites would be the default on the 11”. Not everyone here have bad genes or wear bifocals.

One other major negative that has been pointed out is that websites often load up the mobile version in Safari. Only the 13" consistently display the desktop version. Very annoying! My eyes are more than good enough that I want the desktop version to be displayed at all times!
Safari on either iPP size displays the desktop version by default. Most sites use a responsive design with columns, loading and ordering content based on browser window size and text size. CMD -/+ adjusts text size - that and a refresh will get you the view you want. Safari even remembers the text size you set per site, so if you like your favorite news site showing content in more columns, then set text size per above once and you’re gold. Or go into your system settings and set the default text size for all sites.

It seems folks are unaware of the settings that allow either iPad Pro size to serve up content the same way, and they miss being able to use either size to its fullest. For example, unless you absolutely love the Dock, there’s no reason why it should always be on screen while using Stage Manager. On a 13”, running apps with the Dock on screen essentially gives you the same working space as an 11” with the Dock hidden.

Setting the default zoom level in Safari to 85% will get you the desktop view on most websites with the 11", just smaller.
Do you mean the zoom level will also cause the website to load the desktop version?

Returning the 13” too big to use as a 100% tablet only as I do.
If you want a desktop with keyboard maybe.
You going back 11? I ordered a refurb 256 GB M1 11 iPad Pro for $619 from Apple. Almost exchanged my M4 11 for a M4 13. About made up my mind to return my 11 M4 Pro, and just rock with the M1 refurb for a few years. Waiting to see what is announced at WWDC before make final decision.

Most websites these days use responsive layouts that just respond to the available space in the browser window. If you zoom out it will open up more space and the elements on the page will typically line up the way they would on a larger screen.

It's not perfect, and some websites respond better to different zoom levels, but Safari remembers your setting for each site so you don't have to constantly adjust. I often use the 11" in portrait orientation and find that 85% is a good size for most sites.

I have both the 11 and the 13 and find myself using the 11 more. The 13 sits mainly on my office desk whereas the 11 comes out with me and around the house.

I do honestly think that the 13 in the Magic Keyboard becomes a bit heavy on the lap whereas the 11 I can use for hours. Love them both though.

Same for me. My 12.9 M1 Pro sits most of the time and I use my 10.5 Pro more, despite it being slower with a screen that isn't as good. So when I upgrade it will probably be to an 11.

What websites are displaying as mobile?

I run a web design agency, I know web design well. Most websites on iPad are the desktop version just responsive and losing some bits where necessary. For example, on the news website I read, the side panel of news doesn’t show, on 13” it does.

But, that’s not a mobile version, it’s just responsive to the screen size. It’s actually the desktop version. Most websites are the same.

There’s one, rude….popular website that does show it as the mobile version, yes, but barely any others.

Plus, in landscape, it’s the exact same as the 13” in portrait.

I actually believe websites are BETTER on 11” portrait. For example, on clothing websites and YouTube, the tiles/previews of images are bigger because it’s showing 2 rows rather than 3 on the 13”.

Tiles are smaller on 13” and harder to look at.

There’s zero issues with websites on 11”. And, if anything, fewer ads show vs 13”.

Had my iPad 11” on the MKB most of this week. Just took it off to browse and read one-handed…ahh it really is glorious.

So f’ing nice to hold as a tablet!!
Have been doing that for near 6 years starting with 2018 11" lol.
Would be good if they made it lighter than the M1 11" like they did with the 13"

Interesting, I had no idea! How do I zoom in and out for each site? Are there any prominent sites, such as news or sports, that don't respond and only load the mobile site by default?

I only use the iPad in landscape position when it's in a folio case on the desk. When I'm holding the iPad or using it on my lap, it's always in the portrait position.

I don't know anything about web design, but ESPN loads differently on the 11" vs the 13".

A small contribution... between the 13 and 11 there is a difference with the split screen function... the 11 emulates more of a cell phone while the 13 emulates the desktop version... I think the 11 is better in this sense. And the movies for me the difference is not that much because of the space that the black stripes take.

And yes, even the 13 though it is lighter, you feel the weight that gets tired in minutes. So I agree with some contributions: 13 if it is more desktop location, mac replacement, etc... 11 if it is more of a complement, media consumption and is more portable, no doubts.

Depends what you are watching and what app you are using too, some videos are way bigger than that example. 11” in split screen is not even usable imo. 1 app only at a time iPad.

Have set the 13” M4 back up lol so much better iPad than the 11” M1.

After few years of 12.9” iPad, I switched to an 11” M4 and I have no issues with split screen on it. Totally usable!

It seems a lot of people haven’t used the 11. Try nytimes, Behance, MacDailyNews, 9to5Mac, Adobe, The Verge, Engadget, state of california, microsoft, dell, variety, rolling stone, and wired.

Compare each on the 11 vs the 13. Doesn’t matter that it may not always be full mobile on the 11. The 13 is pretty much always full desktop and the 11 has content adjust to more mobile views. I find it annoying.
