Most expensive must make it clearly the best right? The adverts telling you how innovative and better then then anyone else must add creedence to that right. Plus iphones are simple to use that grandma can use it so it must be best...

Some people like to make things up to feel superior than others.

It's not a feeling. You couldn't beat me in anything.

No it's more of a class and taste thing.

iPhone 5 = sleek and sexy

Galaxy Note = you're trying too hard or you're blind.

I think you have a superiority complex issue.

No the majority get an iPhone because they are are told they are the best so they must fit in by getting one. And more like sleek and big chunks missing out off it out the box.

By using the a Note you really did'nt help your argument as it's a marginal device even among Android users.

Is calling them Geeks a status? Id never wait in a huge line or especially camp out for a phone release. But i have patience when it comes to these things. I dont have a " i need it now" mentality.

Whatever label, it's a status and the OP gives them one all on his own.

Apple used to be a niche product, especially when they just sold computers and even before the first iPhone/3GS. People who bought Apple products usually were different from the average consumer, either they were willing to pay for the Apple name (because Apple computers are always more expensive than similarly specced windows pcs) or they needed them as a creative professional. Apple products were sleek and cutting edge (usually abandoning legacy technologies).

However now Apple is losing the cool factor. It used to be unique to own an Apple product. However now when I'm at school, all I see are iPhones, iPads, iPods, and Macs. Apple products are now a fad. Its just like clothing. I actually asked a few of my friends why they have iPhones/Macs and they said it was because their other friends had them. These people want to be associated with that cutting edge that Apple used to represent (IDK if they still do, at least I don't really think of Apple as cutting edge) even though the majority of consumers don't know the difference between memory and storage (RAM/SSD).

As a tech nerd, I weep for these kinds of people. I guess ignorance is bliss...
(BTW, I'm not really describing people on here because if you're on MacRumors you probably have reasons to back up your Apple purchases other than "its cool" so please don't attack me :) )

Honestly before the iPhone it was actually "cool" to say I was a Mac user. Now it's almost cliche because everyone owns an iPad, or iPhone. There was almost more satisfaction saying I upgraded to the SIII, instead of the iPhone 5.

What is the pleasure on saying my toy is better than yours? And the company that makes it, and gets my money, is doomed because I cannot give them my money more frequently...and you don't know what it is what you want, but you want something, what exactly? I just wish they surprise me with something earth shattering more frequently...is not a valid answer.
The instant gratification nowadays is creating a generation of impatient people, I only hope you put the same intensity on real important life issues, and besides complaining you actually do something about it.
One thing not considered is the availability of making a living out of the so called Eco-system, either making Apps, Digital Books, Music, Videos, Podcasts, etc... And the data mining marketing spy methods currently implemented and soon to exploit. If you check your privacy settings in Safari, you will see even more evidence of apple tracking and sending data about how we use the iToys, some things are earth shattering but not obvious to many of us.

Are you saying that it is a status symbol?

I'm saying this thread wouldn't even exist if Apple, on some level, was not regarded as higher standard brand that made higher standard products.

I don't see anyone writing Pantech status symbol threads.

That's the biggest worry for Apple that they are not seen as cool anymore by a greater and greater number of techie people that influence the buying decisions of others. As fast as Apple has climbed the charts, it will crash right back down.

Because people are shallow and place too much importance on what others think of them.

With that being said, Apple make good products that deserve recognition. I just wish people were more impartial and less shallow about it.

My guess is a teenager asked that question because he thinks having a iPhone can help him get chicks....lol.

I dont know why you said what you did. I guess if you feel you havre a satus setting device, cool for you but just because they cost more doesnt mean they are a status symbol.

I think its pretty crappy that Apple changes the charger to a smaller connection and then makes you PAY to get it. Thats a $30 item. Yep, pure status symbol there but if fools are ok paying it, well what can you say? They will keep screwing you till you fight back.

So apparently, there's a few threads going on at the iPhone forums pointing to "Bendgate" where iPhone 5's are getting bent due to weak metal?

Pics in both these threads:
https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/1459792/

https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/1452478/

This one is about a spontaneous separation of the frame and screen due to the metal bending:
https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/1465403/

An explanation, supposedly:
https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/1495796/

Some as minimal as a slight bend, crack:

Others as severe as the frame popping out:

The stress point seems to be the volume button area. These, apparently, aren't from drops. They're just from being in pockets. Maybe making the device only longer wasn't the best idea.

It's official. Apple was first to make bendable displays. Samsung, prepare your lawyers. :D

Seems to me this can be explained by the proportion of Americans who are overweight....

In any case, the iPhone might have been a status symbol to a few annoying asses who like to flaunt their wealth, but to me it's just a high-quality phone I appreciate. Indeed, my iPhone is in a battery case because it protects and I never, ever have to worry about the battery. With the case on, my iPhone looks as ugly as Android phones.

Anybody who suggests a phone is a good way of judging a person's status or worth is either insecure, infantile, or both. That's true of people who prefer the iPhone and those who prefer other mobile OS's.

To be honest I know more piss poor people with iPhones than anything else.

I have some pretty wealthy friends and coworkers, that love their Blackberrys. Even a few have have Androids.
