Ah so I'm not the only one who thought "this kinda looks like a Linux distro."This look reminds me Ubuntu Gnome Desktop. Very very similar in some points.

Disable tabbed browsing then. Good luck using 2 Safari windows on 1440x900 scaled res.haha, right; how long will you keep this up? also, try my idea, about less open tabs per window, and multiple windows; then you can see every site you have open. change does not have to be difficult
And what's so bad about KDE? In Linux, it's infinitely customizable and can look like anything, from Mac OS X to OS 9 to Windows whatever.
macOS Gnome Edition. Finally, 2020: The Year of the Linux Desktop.
is this addressed to me? i usually have 2-4 windows open... i cycle thru them with command-`, or sometimes switch to another window from the menu bar.Disable tabbed browsing then. Good luck using 2 Safari windows on 1440x900 scaled res.
I see your point now, I misunderstood the original comment. I thought you meant to have multiple windows side-by-side which is hard to do on smaller screens while displaying normal amounts of content.is this addressed to me? i usually have 2-4 windows open... i cycle thru them with command-`, or sometimes switch to another window from the menu bar.
for me, it's easy to group things together, but have windows with viewable text in the tabs.
i spend a lot of time on a 12" macbook. having 2 safari windows side-by-side, each with multiple tabs, on this screen would be insanity (which, fwiw, i manifest in other aspects of life... but not my mac use) 😆I see your point now, I misunderstood the original comment. Best looking version of iPhone OS/iOS imo. Simple, clean, excellent built-in apps (iPod was awesome), and better dock than iOS 4-6.The Jony Ive candy apple anorexic text adventure ui has a few more years of changes left in it to work through before they transition to what’s coming next. I’ll be glad to see this one go.
Not too long ago, it all looked like this:

Heterogeneity in the icons is a good thing
I used to love macOS apps for their carefully crafted icons of various shapes that helped instantly spot the app I was looking for. Now everything is dumbed down, squished into boring rounded corner rectangle. I wish Apple went other way around and macOSified iOS bringing shapes into icons, not iOSified macOS.And the main function of an icon is to be easily recognisable in a lineup of other icons by shape (and secondarily colour).
Looks like washing machine.. horrible. Just for sake of being Big Sur "compatible". I start to appreciate my work Windows 10 task bar.Check out this new Chrome icon.
Given that limited screen estate, I am quite surprised that you appreciate that many Big Sur elements are now larger than they used to be, while some text is smaller.i spend a lot of time on a 12" macbook.
Since I'm using a 2013 MBA (non-retina obviously) I wholeheartedly agree.Same for me. with an external non-retina-display it is much worse.
Looks like a 10 year old kid designed the OS.
but that's my point; my day-to-day work on the macbook has not changed in any way from when i ran catalina. i do the same things, use my apps in the same way. just... the windows look a little different, and frankly, the speed and stability seems better. the GUI changes are not significant enough to disrupt anything (altho control center gives me a less-cluttered menubar; a good thing).Given that limited screen estate, I am quite surprised that you appreciate that many Big Sur elements are now larger than they used to be, while some text is smaller.
Yeah. In the end I will upgrade to Big Sur sooner or later, and probably after initial pain I will adapt. I will probably wait for 11.1 first though.but that's my point; my day-to-day work on the macbook has not changed in any way from when i ran catalina. i do the same things, use my apps in the same way. just... the windows look a little different, and frankly, the speed and stability seems better. the GUI changes are not significant enough to disrupt anything (altho control center gives me a less-cluttered menubar; a good thing).
no pain here, not at all...Yeah. In the end I will upgrade to Big Sur sooner or later, and probably after initial pain I will adapt. I will probably wait for 11.1 first though.
these posts always seem... odd. an operating system should, first & foremost support one's apps, work, etc. so, am amazed when someone reverts to a previous OS over a cosmetic issue. The most difficult "upgrade" to swallow is Safari. If you have more than one tab (which is common), the UI uses 3 times more space than before.
I went back to Catalina and couldn't be happier. Don't know what to do when I buy an M1 Mac.
Windows XP.
The exact same criticism was levelled against XP back in the day.
Now it's seen as onr of the best desktop Windows releases ever.
