That's pretty much what I see. Also, much dismissiveness of tech that they have never used.
Right? I remember someone trashing the Samsung Galaxy Fold, and when pressed further, they’d never even seen one in person.

I have, and it’s fckng AWESOME, and a marvel of engineering. If it had S-Pen capability, it would be my next phone. I am loyal to NO brand, and they’re likely never going to be loyal to me, lol.

I believe it's common enough. I've been around these forums long enough to see it. But, I'll switch it up. If I go into the MacRumors Intel Mac forums and ask for help about my 2006 or my 2008 MacBook Pro what do you think the response will be?

Historically the only response has been "Get a NEW Mac!!!" There's a reason that early Intel Macs have been supported by us MR users in the PowerPC Mac section for a number of years and it's precisely because of that response. You'll get very little help in the Intel Mac section if you aren't using a Mac that's a year old or less. That doesn't mean all users in that forum are that way…but enough have been over the years.

Maybe that's changed in recent years…but there's now an Early Intel Mac forum here on MR so I go there instead.

No matter what forum there will always be the troll ranting about something who won't listen. That's a different thing…Usually they get shut down. Again, I am speaking of the genuine user seeking help that gets told Apple isn't for them.
Go ask that question on the Apple sub-reddit and you’ll get a completely different response.

I definitely feel this goes the opposite direction way more often...Android users always tend to think the people who buy iPhones are too stupid to know better; or are sheep who'll just buy the new one no matter what. Especially since iPhones get newer features years after they've came out on Androids.
Always? Come on. There‘s a huge number of Android users who use Macs. The people you describe are usually teens to early 20s dudes with poor social skills.

Funny Bit you Express...... Even Poor Young Girls in Thailand and Vietnam Know Apple iPhones are Better, Where they cost as much as a Nice Honda Motor Scooter. They Say you can drop a iPhone and It will keep working and all the Android Plastic Junk Breaks. I saw so many Girls with broken screens. When I broke my screen on my 7+ I felt like a Girl until I had the Screen replaced for $45 Local People pay $30. I use a 12 Pro Max for the Camera and being to take Underwater 4k Videos. Some People only need a $25 Cheap phone because they don't do Photography and Call SE Asia and make Video Calls to their Beautiful Girl Friends. The Android OS Sucks and I'm Happy you like a OS That Sucks. I Had a 7" screen Android Asus and Gave it away to a poor Girl. Enjoy your Life! And watch me Pass you in my Tesla Long Range. Bottom Feeders Don't get it! But somebody has to buy the Poorly designed Chinese Plastic Junk that falls apart because they only Killed over 700,000 of us Americans. Yup I know my Phone was designed in California and built by Robots and slaves in China and that I am supporting the Best Computer/Phone Company in the World.
Please tell me you forgot to drop a /S at the end of that.

Indeed there is this kind of elitism among iPhone users. Since so many people have iPhones, including teenagers and children have them, it is unreasonable to tout it or slam it as a status symbol. However, I have seen just as many Android users take an outright hostile, almost violent, stance against iPhones and iPhone users. It is important to note that strange attitudes exist among both groups.
Violent?

Please, go on.

What you’re describing are mostly just trolls or dummy elitists, no need to waste your time with those.

What I think, and this is purely subjective thought, no real data behind it, is that a lot of people start with Android phones and then suddenly there are no more OS version updates after 1-2 years, or they get the latest OS 6 months after it releases, while on the other side of the fence, a 5 year old iPhone gets the latest iOS day one. Then they try to sell their phone, and after 2 years an $800 phone is worth barely $300, while an $800 iPhone is still worth $500-600 after 2 years if properly taken care of.

That kind of experience leaves a sour taste in peoples mouths, so they get angry with Android, move to iPhone and start bashing Android phones.

I truly do not understand the overtly classist and over the top comments on this site when the discussion is about the iPhone and Android phones.
Religious wars waged by competing platform users has been with us from the very beginning. It’s a reflection of poor mental health and insecurity common among the geek/nerd psychological profile. Don’t let it bother you. Enjoy your phone!

maybe someone whos young and an iphone is all they can show for. i honestly haven't encounter someone that superficial or vain since high school. at the end of the day its a consumable item that will lose its value by half in a year.

It is insane and then used cars are actually selling for much more than they are worth, what a time to be alive!

It‘s somewhat concerning actually. Our oldest and his wife are both Process Engineers in The Silicon Industry. They tell me not to expect this shortage to end any time soon. Their issues are the getting everything re-qualified along with bringing new tools online. Lead Times are literally Stroke Inducing right now.

It‘s worse than reports in the media indicate. At least in the Auto Industry that primarily use chips in the 14-12nm range. It really stresses us out to see him so stressed out right now. He used to love the industry. Won’t be a Senior Process Engineer in Silicon much longer…………

On top of this, 2021 would be the normal cycle of 4 years for my wife to sell her 2017 RAV4 and buy a new one. She would make a killing selling it right now. Yet, no inventory anywhere near us let alone our normal dealership who I’m confident would not try to take advantage of her as a 30 year customer.

Challenging times indeed, In many, many areas. :(

Honestly, the iPhone is not that good compared to Android phones that are a few hundred dollars cheaper. The ONLY reason I prefer iPhones is the locked down experience. I don't want to turn this thread into THAT discussion, but people are trying to break that iPhone model which will basically cause me to go Android as I prefer them for everything else.

Genuinely curious - what is it about the locked down experience that you like? And could you not create something similar by using certain apps/search engines/privacy tools etc. on Android?

You kind of already summed it up in the title… keyword being “some” people can be elitist over anything. I personally found this forum to be fairly chill when it comes to all that. I used to be more on the Android side and things were elitist there too as you’d expect maybe a bit more all depends on if a certain region uses more Android or iPhone.

I think the one thing I miss about Android is they had the better selection of Podcast Apps. I miss Podcast Addict a lot, but even Android's Pocketcasts was better than the IOS version. The only reason why I came back to Apple was because of Car Play, but apparently they have greatly improved Android Auto in the last few years. If it wasn't for the Watch, I think I wouldn't hesitate to upgrade back to the Pixel. I still have the Mac, Apple TV, and the Homepod and those don't really need the phone.

I’ve owned two galaxy folds and while they’re really impressive hardware wise, the software sucks. The outside screen can’t remember it’s layout for more than a few hours at a time. Some apps crash when you switch from the outside to the inside display. There’s no systemwide drag and drop. Everything with Android just feels like a Frankenstein’s monster of slapped together software to check the boxes, instead of being well-thought out and properly implemented.

I just sold my fold2 for a massive loss and went back to iPhone because the whole experience was so compromising.

As others have mentioned before me, it’s probably not always a good idea to listen to every whimsical user opinion about how the UI should work, and which feature to implement or not… hence - Android 🤷‍♂️

Just choose whatever works the best for you, and don’t be a di@k about it, is all 🤷‍♂️

In all honesty

the iPhone became elite and expensive compared to other phones back in 2010 when the iPhone 4 came out.

it was the only premium built device in a market of plastic phones.

that device kick started it all.

It just felt like a piece of jewellery or something that level.

it took Samsung and HTC another 3 years before they’d finally make a metal and glass phone and by then Apple were the premium phone brand.

then we had the older model iPhones selling well a year after release which allowed those with less funds the ability to own an iPhone. These tend to be the most vocal arrogant Apple fans which is ironic.

iMessage also helped push that idea with the green bubble stupidity that’s clearly come from Apple marketing but thank God no one outside North America give a crap and use WhatsApp, line and we chat.

these days Samsung sell far more expensive devices so anyone who feels superior With Apple should probably get out of their mums basement

in my opinion, apple is great because of the M1, Apple Watch, iPads and their current industrial design language and that’s why I buy over others, not because it’s elite.

Is this a US thing? I am using an 8+ in Asia and I do not feel any more superior than my colleagues who are toting the latest Samsung phones in the very least.

It certainly seems to be a US thing as far as Mac Rumours goes but I couldn’t say in general. It’s a long time since I have encountered anybody in the UK who has been openly elitist about owning an iPhone, but then that would be lost on most as iPhones are so popular across pretty much all demographics.

Yep. Anyone in the U.K. can afford an iPhone. Even those who aren’t working and are on benefits.

To each their own. Because of the Fold2... I’m not going back to the iPhone. I enjoy using the Fold2 along with the software perks that come with OneUI.

From the multitasking aspects, customization, sound assistant feature and the screen real estate alone… keeps me attached to this device over the iPhone. Not trying to make it into a Android vs iPhone debate, everyone has their preferences. But I haven’t had any app crashes and my outside screen layout doesn’t change.
