Why won't Apple just buy Samsung?

If Apple hates Samsung so much, then why don't they just simply buy them? They won't have to worry about patent infringement and competition. They can even have Samsung's patents and research so they can improve their products.

What could go wrong?

Buying a company isn't that easy. Samsung will not be bought by any company. They are not in trouble unlike some companies struggling to survive. Even if Apple tries to buy them, they can't without approvals and stuff. Even if Apple is rich, they are not able to just purchase any company they want. Why not buy Google and Microsoft also? They're Apple's competition.

All the King's horses and all of his men couldn't buy Samsung even if Apple wanted to (which it doesn't!!). Samsung is actually a massive conglomerate making all sorts of crap from fridges to microwaves so imagine how we'd all be whining about the next OS been delayed because management time was taken up sorting out some cooling system recall in Malawi. Besides, Samsung is sizeable enough (market cap $152bn) to be HUGELY dilutive to Apple share holders if anything as crazy as that was attempted. But I guess your question was tongue in cheek. Right?!

Not everyone understands the ins and outs of business. The OP's question is a valid one to someone who always sees companies buying other companies and knows Apple has over $100bn in cash. I don't think he deserves to be mocked.

Antitrust is a set of laws established a century ago to prevent accumulation of economic power in single entities or collectives. The Federal government in the US would not allow this, and the EU would throw its weight around too even though it lacks any semblance of jurisdiction, as it did with Honeywell/GE.

One company can not buy another company with the company wishing / seeking buy out, shareholders agreeing to the buyout, and the monopolies and anti-trust regulators agreeing to the buyout.

Besides Apple and Apples Consumers need Samsung, they are providing good competition in the market hardware wise which drives on improvements and innovations for all consumers.

Its not good for business or consumers when a corporation becomes so huge it swallows everything in its path.

Its also technically not legal to buy up all the competition, if you look at some UK companies (BT/ BAA) they are forced to sell or share assets with competition to make it fair, even look at the trouble Microsoft got into with media player and internet explorer because it was standard software with their own operating system!!

First of all I don't think Samsung desires to be sold and I'm quite confident that South Korea can discover a lot of ways to block a unfriendly takeover. And 2nd I think Apple builds as a lot profit selling Samsung's components in their box than Samsung does. Buying Samsung would decrease their margin.

Considering the OP doesn't even know anti-trust, the OP either lacks common sense, is incredibly stupid or is still in junior high school.
I learned about anti-trust laws in high school. What's the OP's excuse?

Even ignoring reality and assuming the apple could actually buy samsung, it's unhealthy and monopolistic. Essentially, apple would be doing a microsoft by purchasing a competitor.
If you didn't know, monopolies are bad unless you're playing the eponymous board game.

How would apple buy out a company that has over double its revenue, Triple it's assets and double it's equity. ?!

And even if they did buy them its a huge amount of money to only double Apples net profit.

Samsung is a huge company compared to Apple but only makes similar profits.

They're not the same thing though. RIM makes phones. Samsung makes nearly anything you use in day-to-day life.

Just because apple does a great job with phones, tablets and computers means they'll be able to make great refrigerators, air conditioners and what not. They're great at what they do because they're focused and have learned that to be great you need to say no.
