Normally on keynote days the store will go down a few hours prior and come back a few moments after, so five-ish hours is the expected downtime for new products to be added.

Fair enough, imagine if it is just maintenance an we have all been posting about what's going to be announced  :D I've got my fingers crossed for 12" MacBook update at least.

Seems to be a long time for just maintenance, how long does it take to upload new product pages if that's what is happening.
Yeah this is pretty standard. Apple has to take its store down for an unreasonably long time any time its updated. Its been this way for 10+ years.

Probably to build hype, although I don't know why they need to build hype for spec bumps that will be announced with a press release.

If Apple intended to build hype I don't think they would do it with a planned downtime notification on their system status scoreboard. The only reason we know about it this time is that this mechanism didn't exist before. But anyone hoping for fantastic redesigns should temper their expectations. The iMac should get a pretty nice spec bump though especially if you want thunderbolt 3 or more GPU power.

I was hoping more for an update to the 12" MacBook, I don't really have big expectations I think if anything big was coming we would be seeing invites go out for an event.

I also think releasing a totally new iPad is unlikely.

The rumor that new products will be released, taken together with the downtime, makes for a fair chance of an updated iMac -- that's my hope, a spec-bumped iMac at the same price.

The update to the MacBook will probably be fairly minimal. Just a bump up to the latest Kaby Lake processors. Maybe there is a small chance it could get another USB-C port, thunderbolt 3 and/or the touchbar.

I wouldn't mind that as i haven't yet brought a 12" MacBook and waiting for the update before i do. Along with the spec bump they might add the 2nd generation butterfly keyboard.

I'm getting sick of Tim's empty promises. Wasn't he saying a couple of weeks ago that they have been working on Pro products?
Or was he just talking about all the iPad Pro ads?

I am in need of both a new desktop and laptop...

Because the new 15 inch macbook pro is void of SD card slot and very dated internals.. I'm about to buy XPS 15.. and will get to keep well over one thousand dollars in my wallet.

I'm a big believer in IMac27.. i'm typing this at my now 7 year old model.. I can hold off a bit longer on the desktop but probably not through summer. I dont want to go P.C. for my desktop as i have had great luck with this Imac.. but if they dont get their act together, i might end up going elsewhere for that also...

I guess i'm a weird bird. I have been using a Lenovo laptop and i have seen advantages to having a window computer at my disposal while desktop i want an Imac.. Then my phone is Android and have no desire for iphone.

I think tomorrow we will see spec bumps in Macs ([Kaby Lake] iMac, etc.). I think anything iPad related will wait till the rumored April iPad event.

Apple has also taken down the store in the middle of the night for maintenance with no noticeable changes so there's always a chance that it's just legit site maintenance.

The Store is down, so least something is happening....

As for Tim Cook's promises, he's not promised anything, just made some really vague statements which I think have done more harm than good given just how long its been since the Mac Pro was updated and how unloved/disillusioned many Mac users are now feeling.

At this stage, any update to the iMac would be welcome. So sad how Apple has abandoned the Mac.

If its a silent update, i.e., just appearing in the apple store, its not going to be a re-design. Apple would want to promote and tout the new features. I suspect if we see new iMacs it will be a spec bump, i.e., bringing up to the current chipset.

That's my guess anyways.

Silent update would be just fine by me - spec bump and USB-C ports?

yes, sure, me too, at least kaby lake update and maybe polaris based GPU or (dreaming) Pascal GPU based will be more then enough.
Since only Kaby lake have support 10-bit HEVC decoding, I really need this feature

I heard a rumours months ago that the Imacs would not get anything new besides new specs and USB-C ports so I bet it is coming today.

Oh well, time to order a refurb iMac...

*sigh*

I still can't believe they are selling the Mac Pro on there at full list price.
