To the OP, not at all. I have a 6s, and I would probably buy even a Moto G6, or whatever it is now, were it in the Apple ecosystem. I simply have no desire to go with Android, though I’ve seriously considered it. As it stands, I’ll probably get a 128GB XR and go about my life.

It wouldn’t be good for some people’s image if they bought the iPhone XR and rocked it in public bc people will think they don’t have the money to buy the best.

Anyone who wants to show out might be hesitant to buy XR for this reason.

EDIT:

iPhones are ABSOLUTELY a status symbol in other countries. So please don’t say it’s not. In America no, but yes for many places.

In fact, I had heard the gold color was aimed for Asia markets bc it’s considered good luck and symbol of wealth for many.

You could also say someone didn't want to waste their money and got something that served a purpose and fulfilled it's task over costing an extreme amount of money for nearly the same thing.

You again could say that you want the best because you don't plan on buying another phone for a couple of years and are ok with spending a little bit more.

Some people may like the colors better and don't really care. An iPhone is an iPhone is an iPhone. Pick the phone that works and suites your taste/style/life/wallet. Who gives ****?

Different strokes man.

I knew who the OP was without having to look. I'm not even kidding. No offence, Hieveryone, but you need to get over your iPhone based insecurities. You've made threads asking people if you should get every iPhone since the 7, I think.

It's just a phone. Do whatever you want. No one cares.
Don’t forget the countless millionaire lifestyle threads.

If anything it'd be an embarrassment walking around with a $1200 phone...I can't tell you how many remarks I've gotten for having the X. "Omg you spent how much on a phone?!"

Word. I personally think it’s “cooler” to have a somewhat older and/or cheaper phone.

Reminds me of when I was in middle school — my friends and I were really into Nike Airs, but more as an “aspirational” concept than anything else (our parents wouldn’t pay too much for sneakers, understandably). Once a year, each of us *might* get a lower-end pair of Nikes, and treated them really well.

Then, after a school break one year, one of our group showed up wearing high-end Air Pumps (the kind with a separate little hand pump) that his grandparents had bought him. The rest of us made fun of him! We loved Nikes, but was like he had gone “too far” or something... owning those shoes didn’t seem so cool to the rest of us.

Which group do your friends think you fit into? Maybe you can do some favors for the rich group for money so you can buy the more expensive one.

People are free to extend themselves as far as they can in order to portray any image of themselves they want, and some will certainly make bad decisions. Just have confidence in yourself and do what's best for you. The truth is that nobody really cares.

I think nobody really cares as well, but I have seen rare instances where a guy was judged for not having the latest. Nobody cared, but questioned why he didn’t because he was rich so they assumed he would have it.

So be an ***** rebel and declare why you like what you like. Your problems are your own.

Hate to break it to you but what phone you own does not mean crap about your wealth, in fact most people who have alot of money have it because they are smart how they spend their money and a $1000 phone is not a smart way to spend your cash really.

Normal humans never ever think about this stuff in relation to phones.

Cars are the status symbol. Not phones.

Why do you care? Just worry about yourself...

The iPhone X is the Apple flagship iPhone. Nothing has changed today other than a slightly less expensive model for those who don't need an OLED screen.

With a selling price of $749 for a paltry 64GB the new XR still quite a luxury and quite a status symbol.

What today's releases tell us is that anyone with a forehead/chin iPhone is out of style and sitting back in coach. Have a Notch, you're flying first class.

But the X is now outdated, boltjames. Which means you'll need to upgrade all 4 of them to the Xs Max to remain king of the hill? :D

I mean I agree, I’m the type to rebel and just be like buzz off I like my iPhone whatever because it’s cool and just awesome.

It just stinks how like there are crowds out there where there are people who really do look at that kind of crap and make judgement

I don’t think anyone with an iPhone X will look outdated tbh.

People still know that thing costs about a thousand bucks.

Plus who can tell anyway between the Iphkne x model and the iPhone Xs model?

I wouldn’t get gold just so people know bc I’m not like that and don’t like the gold anyway. I like the space gray personally.

I've got the X, the 8 and will be buying the XR. I don't care what other people think of my phone choices.

That's part of being cool, my brother, you get to walk around and not care what anyone thinks. Keep it real.

I don’t even think cars are really a status symbol. I mean if I drive a GMC, you probably won’t think I’m rich but some of those cost a lot especially brand new.

Heck, you can get a high end luxury car used for the same price as a brand new Toyota, yet Toyota isn’t a big deal while a Mercedes might be!

I think your house is a status symbol. Like if you’ve got a big house with all the bells and whistles like crown molding, French doors, arched windows, game room, movie theater, granite counter tops, stainless steel appliances, and so on, you’re ballin lol

It's certainly not going to be good for your image to be using the dirt cheap iPhone.
But maybe you shouldn't care?
I do care and will be buying the XS Max.

I would imagine a gold Xs Max is the most flashy for 2018 lol.

I actually would like one just for fun but like it’s too big and I really don’t want to be that flashy tbh.

I’m happy with my iPhone X.

It’s of the totally opposite reason I love my SE.

To show off, how little I care about the phablets or Apple’s greed.
Today even a lot more then yesterday.
If Apple doesn’t come to their right mind again. I’m done with them, phone wise anyway.

Actually, the SE shows that someone is bold IMO.

Most people probably get the best they can afford, whether it’s the iPhone 7 or the iPhone 8 or the iPhone X.

I’m assuming everybody can afford the SE especially with some deals or something.

But to CHOOSE the SE shows when you CAN get more especially like a used iPhone 7 or whatever shows that you got the SE bc you like it

And that’s cool

OP and boltjames are the only two who'd care.

I bought an iPhone 8 last year because I am poor low class scum who can't chum with the likes of those who measure their self worth entirely by a low four figure purchase. 1 large? Oooh, such baller status - just screams wealth and status.

In your 20s, you care what people think. In your 30s, you don't care what people think. In your 40s, you realize nobody was ever thinking about you at all.

Oh, and everyone has an iPhone, so nobody cares, period.

I’m replying merely to bring more attention to this excellent post, made me chuckle, bravo sir/madam! :)

It’s a phone. It’s a multi tool and a device that we use for communication, I don’t _care_ what anyone thinks about any piece of tech device I own, it merely is meant to convenience me and what I want to achieve out of it. That’s it.

Only if they value their self worth via material ownership or approval of others.

I run whatever phone i have until it dies. If someone wants to judge you because you run an older phone, thats a good filter to remove them from your life.
