I would just get a console, no need to worry about upgrading every year or two. Thats the route I went with anyways, so I may be biased. Even if the M1X did have the graphics capability to run games, which it most likely will, there isn't enough support for macOS gaming to run them. Get a PS5 or Series X and you'll be golden, plus consoles are much more portable than PC's.
You could get both consoles that way you don’t miss out on exclusives.

It isn't just high framerates, it is also being able to turn on all effects and ultra details (after all the developers/artists spent time on those assets) and not turning the game into a stuttery mess.
Natch, but the post I replied to questioned the difference at 150-200 fps, not 20 and stuttering.

With VRR I guess there is no real difference between 150 and 200 FPS. Bad frame pacing may still be noticed without VRR though, for example The Ascent is a game where I get high frame rates but occasional hitching due to FPS drops are still there.

I wonder what "surprise" developer game they are going to show up for the MacBook event. It would be cool if they got Metro Exodus Enhanced edition, since the normal version is already on macOS, running. FarCry 6 would really cause a stir!

Ok, i will send to this forum members to see if we can post a picture from a "supposedly" m1x SoC under a game i think (bsed ont he pictures) called world of warcraft..from what i understand from the source, this game is native for M1 ?! So there is no penalty from parallels or Rosetta 2 etc
it is a picture comparing M1 mac mini connected to an external display and this "m1x "
playing this game at 1440p,
anti-aliasing -None,
Vertical Sync disabled
Shadow Quality Low
Liquid Detail Low
Particle Density medium
SSAO Disabled
Texture Resolution High
Spell Desnity Dynamic
Projected Textures Enabled
View/Environment/Ground Clutter all on max
So those settings are the same, on the M1 the picture shows 68-69 Fps, on the other mac it shows 271-272 Fps...
i dont know how to translate this into video/audio encoding and final cut pro etc... this sound like the 32 gpu cores i guess?! it is enought difference i wonder between M1 and M1x? i wonder based on this if its on the same level with 1660TI or which nvidia card?!

I've been gaming on Macs since 2008 and never had issues. Never understood this games = PC only thing.

Good developers develop for both platforms and the games that are not there I simply don't play. Its just that simple.

I'm not a hardcore gamer anymore so this is perfectly fine but even before it was easy to game on macs.

These days I only play Dota 2, Hearthstone and sometimes Reforged. Will try Diablo 4 when its out as by then this Blizzard mess will get sorted.

Doubt. Unless there are clear shots of the system specs (even then) and a benchmark, I would still say "I'll believe it when Tim Cook announces it". If you have actual leaks or whatever, just upload them somewhere and send them to https://www.macrumors.com/share.php.

Yes already did, sorry im not allowed. Its ok, we will see in "several weeks "
But i guess its real, because of the source and because it is under metal arm architecture, but it doesnt matter since its a game. Just wonder that kind of performance is on level with nvidia 1660TI ?!

Dont know if Diablo 4 will be made for macOS like some others games you mention
Reforged what it is? war3 reforged? it works on macOS? or its under windows ?

Yeah, W3 Reforged.

All games mentioned work fine under macOS and I'm sure by then Diablo IV will be no exception. The reason why Overwatch wasn't was because of some issues with GPU framework (or something like that) which will not be the case with AS.

I wouldn't be surprised to actually see more and more games coming to Mac simply because how powerful AS will be in the coming years. Just look at the iOS market. It completely dominates the mobile games.

Can you send the picture privately to other forum members? I very much doubt you have your hands on a real „M1X“ leak, and it’s impossible to establish the performance level of the GPU just from your information, but a 32-core G13 will definitely be much much faster than a 1660Ti.

Sorry, but it is fake, its from a hackintosh system

I can die happy if Apple gives us even a 16-core GPU. Have you found any definitive info about what the current M1 8-core GPU compares to as far as video cards? I thought I read 1080ti at one point, but 🤷‍♂️

From my understanding, only world of wartis for M1 macs..the rest are running under rosetta2.. after rosetta will be removed from the macs, what then?

I have M1 mini at home and played Dota 2 whole weekend (rare day when I had that much time). No issues at all.

it doesn't really matter if its under rosetta 2 or not. If it works, it works. Simple as that.

Also, why worry what will be in few years time when things change so fast in this tech world? Enjoy now and in the future it will be sorted. Thats how I look at things :)

It’s roughly comparable to a 1050 Ti/1650 max-Q (the 35W version), with Nvidia GPUs being slightly faster in actual games. But Baldurs Gates 3 suggests that M1 can be faster in a well-optimized game (I see people getting close to 50 fps at full HD/high, which is not far off the desktop 1650).

Some advice, pay the $100 for a yearly sub for geforce now. i use it for travelling, nd have played on a low bandwidth connection and it is playable.

Only game I play is Ark and Apple had to nuke 32 bit apps so can't play it anymore. Played it on Mac for years with no problem.

So, really doesn't matter.

It is barely playable even under the best conditions.

It works for me quite well, unfortunately fews of the games I want to play are supported. And those that are, I can’t use mods and beta patches, which makes it a no go.

Currently I am faced with a dilemma, which laptop to buy.
I need a laptop that I can run all my code and game on it for fun.

I sold my gaming console because realized, I could get a laptop like the G15 or Blade 14 5900hx, and if will probably perform better then my ps4 pro.

But Apple is in my blood lol, I am wondering if the new M1x chipped MacBook pros (14in and 16in) will be a good option for gaming.

I know currently Mac’s pretty much suck at playing games, but I still have hope, and was wondering if anyone knows anything about it.
We will tell you when they arrive 😉
