I could see Apple selling a Classic with a 128GB SSD for $600. That's how much a 60GB Photo was when it first came out!

I love the design of the classic. It's combination of size, features, control and comfort is awesome.

Even though I use my iPhone 3G as my iPod, I still think the click wheel is a brilliant design and is greatly responsible for the iPod's popularity today. Simple one thumb operation in the space of a small wheel, much of which can be performed without looking at the screen.

In designing the iPod's new touch interface, I think Apple had to give up something pretty great. Even though the screen on the iPod touch and iPhone is bigger than the classic, I find it terribly uncomfortable holding these devices in the horizontal position for extended periods.

Apple should keep the current shape of the classic. It's brilliant.

Couldn't agree more, except for the perennial quibble about the battery life, which I would like to see considerably improved. Lovely post and design from elmateo487, especially the postscript (yes, lol). Cheers.

Haha. I know i know.... i want them to do it bad. Would be nice wouldn't!?

Although they could just release.... "New iPod classic! Now for $5,449! Less space then your previous iPod!" Im sure it would be a big hit!

Haha but then again.... people bought the I'm Rich app for 1000 bucks. So! People would probably buy it.

So what exactly is the I'm Rich app? Or is that just a nickname for a really expensive app (and once again, what is it?)?

Goodness, that's hilarious. I'll have to check out those threads later.

Nothing is gonna happen to the Classic. The majority of population are going for the Touch or Nano (maybe even iPhone). The Classic are for music "freaks" (including myself), but the most just wanna have "some" music with 'em and not their hole library. I just can't get used to use my iPhone as Classic 'cause I can't choose what music I'll like to hear. It's randomly..

So I love my iPod Classic and wouldn't live without it.. But I think it's the last thing on Apples "to-do" list..

Sure, a capacity increase will happen but nothing else.. I sure hope they will bring back the white look. Though, when I bought my Classic I had i iBook and would have loved a white one to match my iBook. Now when I have a BlackBook the Classic is pretty good.. The silver looks to boring..

So don't hold your breath or anything.. Nothing major is gonna happen..

Wait, why did you quote me? My statement didn't really have anything to do with yours.

I really think Apple should integrate Bluetooth into the Classic at the very least...maybe the Touch as well, because then Apple could market Bluetooth headphones compatible with the iPhone, iPod Touch, Classic, etc. I doubt that the Classic will receive SSD's until the price gap between HDD's and SSD's shrinks to almost nothing. Although, at that point, would Apple completely abandon the Click Wheel interface or keep a Classic and Touch line in tandem?

I wouldn't mind if Apple took the design back to the third generation iPod (I think it was the third generation). The one with the backlit buttons and the touch scroll wheel and it had the headphone jack in the dead center of the top of the iPod.

Bleh, I think that was the ugliest iPod of them all. No thank you, I'll keep the current design, which is actually my favorite of them all.

That sounds like a gross exaggeration, you really like the original iPod design more?

PS: The fifth generation iPod is way nicer than the current one, especially the black one. Although the sixth generation iPod is much more durable.

Change classic to flash would destroy its capacity. No way will they change the classic line to anything flash based.

I really just want a larger screen, the sensitivity increased on the click wheel [like the 5g], and a capacity bump. [100GB/200GB would be good]

If anything I wish they used a higher capacity hard drive in the iPod Touch. Really hard drive based players aren't all that unreliable.

I think they'll end up just bumping capacity and maybe something else. ( I can't really think of what else they would add, but I'm not going to rule it out.)

And a 120Gb Touch would make me hand over my credit card ... maybe Apple will surprise me?

Well to say it bluntly. No duh!

Dhh! The whole point of my post is for people who say that an SSD is so expensive. For an iPod, flash is fine. Thus, price isn't a central concern.

The touch OS wouldn't be able to run off of a hard drive, they're too slow.

Correct. Price is not a central concern. But how else are you going to get 120 plus gigs into a device with flash? 4x32gig chips? That would be still very expensive, and how are you going to fit them all in there?

That was a great iPod! I have it! Backlit keys are very good, and the all of the buttons are touch, except for the hold switch obviously. I think the next classics could implement backlit keys.

Maybe Apple will discontinue the 80GB and lower the 160GB price to $299. Apple should also put a small flash buffer (say, 1GB) to help the menus load faster and increase battery life even more (or keep the same battery life and use a smaller battery to make the device even thinner).

Uhh...the 160GB is already at $349. Apple wouldn't drop the lower-end Classic without at least lowering the high-end Classic to the same price point, if not lower, of the low-end one.

The 160GB iPod is already $349. Discontinuing the 80GB model without moving anything else into the $249 price point would drastically change their selling structure. And there's already a buffer in the iPods to prevent the disk from constantly spinning.
