They said new intel macs, so likely later this year I guess. ha . . as typed above just now..

almost beyond frustrating because they teased 'great intel mac's'. That means I should wait to see if we are or are not getting an intel iMac before just buying what's available today. I was ready to buy today.

What the fusion...It seems we're gonna stick to this forum for the weeks to come. :D

"we have amazing intel macs for you"

What do you all think? July? I don't think he would have referred to new machines far in the year.

Awww dammit ! LOL Oh well I might as well grab a iMac pro refurb for the time being . I'll have to wait until it all OS catches up . I need to upgrade this year, like this month LOL

So I am a newbie to this stuff so please be patient with me. So after seeing this, it appears that if I want a new iMac I should just go ahead and purchase the current model because no one knows when a new model will be released. Is that your take on what was not said in the presentation?

Kuo's research note certainly looks fairly accurate. "Apple will launch the refresh of existing Intel ‌iMac‌ in 3Q20 before launching the ‌ARM‌ ‌iMac‌". Tim said Arm Macs coming "by the end of the year", so the 24" could launch Q420.

I can’t see any new Intel iMacs selling well unless it has a new form factor.

Pretty much... if you need a desktop with specific productivity needs then now would be the time. The usual Mac announcement times are now October but not sure how they’ll balance between ARM machines and intel machines now..

If you can afford to wait then I’d say wait at least until fall when macOS Big Sur launches cos I have a feeling they may release an ARM machine then to mark the os release

Mac Pro was announced in 2018, we just didn’t see the finished hardware until then, which still wasn’t released until late 2019.

I guess you've never seen WWDC before have you...

Yes, but it’s still not a hardware event. Occasionally something shows up but all new hardware tends to be September/October.

So the first ARM Macs are coming in 6 months and so are the new Intel Macs? I wasn't planning to replace my 2011 iMac yet but seeing the performance of Rosetta and A12Z I doubt I will buy any Intel Mac next.

I think the iMac was only shown as part of the slide where Tim mentioned that intel based macs would continue to be supported

I just watched the ending again, dident catch it. That refers directly to old iMacs. So it's ok.
The line about "we got new intel macs in the pipeline" pretty much referred to the iMacs to be released "now". I guess this will be only a matter of 2 - 30 days from today till they release them. They just did not want to overshadow the ARM news.

To bad. I needed this to drop now. Well... what can you do. Imma try to find a different way to finally get editing.

Not really down for ARM since i really dig the windows support for some hardware that apple eliminated (for example my film scanner) and the occasional game. But totally dig the three streams of 4k in final cut with the live playback editing.
