Its clear , Apple wants the first arm macs to be on A14 silicon based and not on last generation
So, first macs on ARM will come after September / October, and until then i guess new macs with Intel can still be released

I just watched the ending again, dident catch it. That refers directly to old iMacs. So it's ok.
The line about "we got new intel macs in the pipeline" pretty much referred to the iMacs to be released "now". I guess this will be only a matter of 2 - 30 days from today till they release them. They just did not want to overshadow the ARM news.

To bad. I needed this to drop now. Well... what can you do. Imma try to find a different way to finally get editing.

Not really down for ARM since i really dig the windows support for some hardware that apple eliminated (for example my film scanner) and the occasional game. But totally dig the three streams of 4k in final cut with the live playback editing.
Yes, probably this month or next

So it's official. macOS update support has finally ended on my 2012 iMac 😭😭😭

But on that note, i am SUPER stoked for the ARM iMac incoming. The fact that it has Logic Pro X and that they have Rosetta 2 in place seals the deal for me. I've waited almost 8 years to upgrade. I can stand to wait just a few more months! Definitely buying when it's released!

My Apple Card was locked and loaded to buy a maxed out redesigned Intel iMac today. Now I think I'll find a way to hobble along until the Apple Silicon iMac is released. Wonder if that's this year or next year. I have to say if Apple can pull this off they're going to have some really powerful machines.

Now what to do?

Now we go back to our daily lives of speculating on this thread of when the next event might be :p

Fairs, my work needs are fairly basic in terms of dedicated H/W (i.e. no extra H/W really needed) would love to know more about virtualisation on ARM macs but in a way seeing the parallels logo on the ARM mac was kinda promising I guess? Also, wasn’t sure if it’s my stream or not but I did notice a tiny bit of occasional stutter when FCPX was doing a single channel 4K playback towards the beginning.. but maybe it’s my stream

Now what to do?

  • If you need an iMac "right now", buy a refurb and save some cash. Yes it will be "old", but it will still work for years.
  • If you don't need an iMac before the end of the year, wait.
  • If you won't really need an iMac, but just want a new one, then wait.

No new iMac ???????

Later this year.

Wow. I can't believe it. NO NEW IMAC ? 175 pages for NOTHING ?

In terms of pages, this thread has nothing on the post-2013 Mac Pro and post-2012 Mac Mini "waiting" threads and eventually they both got new models.

Did you not get that message after updating to the latest patch? Because i did on my 2012 iMac.

Thats 2017 Mac pro is a fairly recent cutoff if you consider the price of these things.

Based on the info and dev kit
-bootcamp will still available after sept/oct with the release of windows10 arm to buy
- first mac with arm will be after sept based on the next a14 silicon 5nm vs intel 14nm
The apps that are not build for arm will lose between 4-10% performance thanks to the perfect emulation
While on surface proX the emulation can lose up to 62% of performance

Performance and compatibility asides, anything that's "Apple Exclusive" is SUPER EXPENSIVE !

Lightening Cable, for instance, you name it 😺

There's something coming, the refurb store was just restocked and holy wow are the BTO configs Priced To Sell!

i9/V48/512SSD for $2800!

That's seriously tempting...

Price = awesome.
Get someone professional to replace that SSD to 1TB or 2TB and it's an awesome machine.

You mean for the iMac Pro?

And no about the message on the last patch? What did it say? Was that patch a few weeks ago? I did update but I don't remember seeing anything peculiar?

On my iMac 2012 i got a popup after the last MacOS update that this computer will no longer get new OS Updates. (i hope they do fix the finder freezing, wich it still has, because that sucks)

Glad about this:

Tim-

"We plan to continue to support and release new versions of Mac OS for intel-based Macs for years to come (with old Mac hardware on screen as Tim spoke). In fact we have some intel-based Macs in the pipeline that we're really excited about...".

Was Tim hinting that the intel based Macs in the pipeline will have a redesign? Or does he get "really excited" about a refresh?

All may not be lost. Could still see redesign intel based iMacs next month...

Very disappointing. Hopefully they will come out with a new one this year. I have been waiting for a new one to be released because High Sierra will end support later this year. This means I will no longer be able to use citrix to work remotely. Since my iMac is 2010, High Sierra is the last OS that I can use. I guess I am going to have to get my Windows 10 to work if one isn't released this year.
