Disappointed. I think a refresh will happen after the back to school period. It will be just intel processor update. Redesign next year. :(

Virus is killing tech manufacturing.

Going to keep current iMac until the spring and just get the new processors from Apple and jump in on the first gen.

"pipeline" doesn't really mean 2-30 days. that's a stretch. Sounds more like code for end of year. You see how far our over optimism got us today.

To be more precise, I'm basing a next month release on Tims pipeline comment together with Kuo saying "Apple will launch the refresh of existing Intel ‌iMac‌ in 3Q20". So could be Aug or Sept but I'm going to go for July because Jon Prosser said iMacs were ready to ship in May and Sonny Dickson said new design iMacs would be announced at WWDC. Dickson was wrong (assuming they would be announced at the keynote) but maybe Apple just delayed the release slightly.

The 2 year transition to ARM, which I believe starts at the first system release due at the year end, also means it could be a long time before we see an ARM 27 iMac, because I can see the 27 iMac being one of the last to transition. So I'm now thinking a redesign is likely for the final intel iMacs. I can't see Apple leaving that old iMac design selling into possibly 2022/2023.

I must also consider that this will be the last 21.5 inch iMac we will see.

I think you nailed it with Back to School. Why put out a new iMac and cut into profits by giving away AirPods? Plus the promo ends in September...

Just in time for the next event and within Kuo’s Q3 estimate for the 24-inch model.

Well there is always room for a whole new batch of fresh rumors for us, right?

Maybe they will time it for after Big Sur release. I sure hope the Big Sur beta isn't as bad as the Cat was.

Well that solidifies what I was already thinking. I've moved my gaming to PS4 (I'm not serious enough about gaming to wait for PS5) and I'll keep using my MacBook Pro with external screen until Apple release an Arm Mac that suits me.
A 24" iMac isn't going to cut it for me, it will need to be at least 27", or perhaps a Mac Mini.

So guys, what do you think ?!?!?!?!

New 40" inch iMac with chinless iPad Pro Design!

OLED-Screen!

Build in FaceID without notch!#

Intel Lakefield chipset!

RAM and SSD swappable!!!

This is wonderful! Thank You Phil Schiller and Steve Jobs, You guys are the BEST!

Oh, what? Steve Jobs is dead? Cook is CEO? No Hardware at WWDC2020? ARM-based Macs?

What is this? Who meddled with the future? This is like coming back and seeing, that Biff Tannen married Lorraine ...

I was wondering about that cos they did mention STR was written for Metal and the snapshot didn’t really specify what GPU it was using... given that a Mac mini runs on igpu I’m inclined to think that this is Apple potentially snubbing both intel AND AMD?

Ya from my prospective that demo spanked intel pretty hard. Essentially Apple is saying, we'll take your X86 64 bit game, emulate it in real time with Rosetta 2, and run it on an ARM iPad processor better than Intel can run it natively on an Ice Lake CPU.

Worldwide DEVELOPERS conference. While WWDC has had hardware reveals in the past, it's still a software focused event.

Ugg. so disappointed. Really hoping for an iMac refresh. Might have to just give up and go PC for this round of desktop. Only 14hrs more to go to try out SloSur lol. At least iPadOS downloaded quickly.

There is no need to argue, that "Apple Silicone" is "far superior" then Intel. Even IF this was the case, the result will be a second "Betamax"-Desaster. Betamax was superior to VHS but it lost the war. There are billons of Macs out there, that operate in Windows environment with very specific software, that is only available to Windows. Until now, the iMac has been the best, most stable and reliable Windows machine, but this Rosetta-Desaster will put an end to this. The guys over at Dell and Lenovo are having the party of their lives...

ok, I know this sux but at the same time its probably good news. The longer we wait the more likely we might be getting RDNA2. So, september/october event will be juicy. Until then we just have to suffer a little longer :)

Apple also upped the ante by implying they do their own GPUs. Now, taking on NVIDIA, AMD and Intel all at the same time... Where's that popcorn?

I do not want to seem a bore, but I warned before that ....
___

Based on the info and dev kit
-bootcamp will still available after sept/oct with the release of windows10 arm to buy
- first mac with arm will be after sept based on the next a14 silicon 5nm vs intel 14nm
The apps that are not build for arm will lose between 4-10% performance thanks to the perfect emulation
While on surface proX the emulation can lose up to 62% of performance
Source link please?

All may not be lost. Could still see redesign intel based iMacs next month...
Now there’s even less chance that this will happen. It makes no sense to do a global redesign for the sake of one of the latest generation of Intel, to again change the structure for Silicone. Unless they can unify it, which is also unlikely.
I was amazed Shadow of the Tomb Raider was running on an A12Z with Rosetta 2. I tried it on a 2019 MacBook Air i5 and the fan was SCREAMING with graphics all the way down, and I still had FPS issues. So it looks like even X86 apps run better on ARM than Intel LOL.
I did not play Tomb Raider, but didn’t you think that the graphics there were much worse than in the regular version?

Has anyone seen Azrael?
Gone into a binge?

Or maybe Apple Silicon will be the DVD to x86's LaserDisc. *shrug*

They talked about how they have improved GPU performance by a massive amount (1000x?), and repeatedly talked about System on Chip. I think they did more than imply.

They said the iPad was more powerful than most laptops. Macs will get more cores and GPU cores and RAM and thermal allowance. There is the potential to surpass any GPUs currently in a Mac, possibly by a long way.

Dude. The thing is ready, has been delayed since march for reasons of corona and BLM, got removed today for reasons of ARM supposed to be the headline for the next days, possibly weeks (when the DevKit drops and gets reported on).
iMac will happen once reports on the DevKits left the news cycle, wich will be in either two weeks or maybe four.

Focus on the information you have. ARM Transition announced to be two years, starting the end of this year. They won't start with the most powerfull iMac, iMac has not been updated in 460 days. Lots of leakers have been right about pretty much everything lately, including the hardware being pulled from WWDC, why would they be wrong about the iMac being at WWDC with all the features unamiusly reported. iMac 27 inch now going on to be out of stock for a full month, BTO models with high end specs sold for under 3000$...

How many more hints that this "in the pipeline" dos not mean "within one month"?
It probably means next year you will still get new 27 inch iMacs with Intel. Thats deep down the Pipeline.

There is a new iMac, it's been there for month now. Apple just needs room in it's schedule.

I disagree, Apple is the leader and Microsoft is the follower now. Microsoft will jump through whatever hoops they need to, to run Windows on Mac. It might mean making a proper ARM version of Windows, or through virtualization, either way it will exist.
