How hard is it for Apple to give its customers a heads up of upcoming products, not vague "it's in the pipeline". I've been with Apple a long time and this crap is starting to getting annoying. The customer is constantly performing guess work when they want to buy a new product.

The transition to Apple silicon can help a lot on this topic. Like is known for everybody that every year we have an iPhone and Watch launch after the Summer, maybe the spring becomes the time for tablets and laptops updates and Fall we get the desktop updates. (This is an example).

There was just one leaker that by now admitted he is just as clueless as us.

Two leaks that Im aware of.

The Jioriku leaker said they were just in the dark as the rest in regards to when the iMac would drop - if thats the leak you are referring to - I dont see that as a complete retraction of their leak that it would be a Sept release because they were talking in the context of people asking if it was soon/tomorrow, so it looks like they were expressing that they didnt know exactly when the release would be. In any case, they clearly still think Sept.

If it actually is September, wich i don't want to believe and luckily still have enough reasons not to believe, just put on an event in August and let us preorder. I can already see all the silly folks that plopped up after WWDC being captain highnsigt telling us how it was a software event with almost no one speaking up in that way before the final 24 hours till keynote. September should be packed.

I wonder what the issue could be, with china only being on lockdown for around two month, how can this be supposedly delayed for three quarters of a year?

I think those leakers a mixing the Intel iMac and ARM iMac rumors together.

I guess the "new iMac" is the ARM iMac and that's not coming sooner than in fall (October / November) IMO. On the other hand, an updated 27" iMac might still come in July, but I think it won't be a redesign.

So...
July 2020: final iteration of iMac 27", maybe with iMac Pro chassis (iMac Pro discontinued)
September–November 2020: ARM iMac 24", redesigned.
2021: ARM iMac 27", 27" screen maybe replaced with 32" = cheaper panel than XDR?

On the 7:th of July, a September release could be concluded from the delivery time stated on the Apple home page yesterday/today. The Jioriku wordings suggest no substantial inside information.

iPhones have so good leaks so there is no need to look at the keynote while the iMac just get random twitter gossip without any substantial evidence (photos, cad drawings etc).

If there is a september release and the 27 inch stock has dried up completely, why not release it now so people can order it? It worked for the MP 2013. It was released in Dec 2013 but very few got them in Dec/Jan while most of us had to wait til March/April.

That’s what I also don’t undetstand. Why would Apple pack everything into the Sept/Oct timeframe. It takes away from the iPhone/Apple Watch launch
And why would they release the Intel iMac and AS iMac together?

"Here's the revolutionary new iMac - new design, new AS chip - this is the future of desktop computing. It's 5x more power and 6x more graphical capability than the previous iMac. We think you're going to love it."

"PS: here's a spec bump on a far less powerful device with an outdated design. We think you're going to love it."

I think the new 27“ imac becomes a redesign.

It's going to look very old, out moded and unsexy compared to the 'new' 'iPad' style design if it doesn't get the new design.

There's no reason why the new chassis can't have two models, the ARM low end and the Intel 'high' end. But having old and new designs side by side happens with iOS devices. The 13 and 16 inch Macbooks don't share slim bezels.

Meanwhile.

The rumours continue to swirl re: NV's next release. Whilst Mac owners are looking forward to 'last year's' RDNA1 gpu in the 'new' iMac...PC owners will get Ampere with ray tracing tech'.

Silver lining? A Sep' release allows the 6600M (RDNA2 gpu) for the iMac as BTO (hopefully as a less than £800 option.)

What credibility do leakers have? Franky, I think they’re just dudes in their basement in some small town USA who may have a friend who lives in Shenzen, China. Pulling guesses out of thin air, then making retractions every few weeks.

Any one here can open up Twitter account, make up some asian sounding handle, drop in an anime character in our profile and boom, you’re a leaker!
Heck, many here in this forum are more thorough in analyzing Apple’s strategy and timing.

I’m more apt to believe Ming Chi Quo who has sightlines on suppliers and manufacturing orders. Or perhaps Mark Gurman at Bloomberg who has a much better track record.

With the move to ARM we can only hope that Macs get a *more* predictable release schedule. That doesn't seem to have happened for the iPad as such.

But the iPhone every year is immutable.

For Mac Pro, Mac Mini and to a slightly lesser degree, iMac owners...the last ten years of Tim Cook's Mac desktop has been very frustrating in terms of timing, spec, value, cooling, design, cost, BTO. The current pregnant pause for the iMac is just the latest irritation for Mac desktop buyers.

Craig Fed', with a straight face, 'If you need a Mac, buy one now...' right after Tim Cook saying we have new Intel Macs coming. Easy to say that when you're payed what they are payed. But for the rest of us mortals. Computers (and Macs, these days...) cost a lot of money...and because Apple doesn't reduce prices over time for their, sometimes, 3 year old kit...it becomes a game of 'when' is the best time to buy to get the best value relative to the whole market.

I am wondering what the delay would be about anyway.

21 inch is shipping fine and dandy.
new 23/24 inch is not ready?
27 inch in doom land.
new 27 inch is also in doom land?

What is missing? Is it the displays? But why no 24 inch then?
And more importantly, if one thing is bottelnecking, what about all the rest?
This stuff is obviously planed out well in advance, so lets assume AMD and Intel are delivering, everything Apple ordered for this iMac to ship in March/at WWDC is in a warehouse and getting older waiting to be put in a machine, but still has to be used. - What i am trying to say is, if the two leakers with their twitter chatter are right, these machines are not getting better for you or me.

Good question. The 'old' last year tech' of RDNA1 is not getting any younger. :p (See Ampere link above...) With PC owners about to be a generation or two or three ahead...whilst Mac owners *STILL* don't have a mid-range card RDNA1 card in their mainstream desktop £1500-£3000+.

Polaris. Vega. It's old stuff. OLD. £450 for a Vega 48. It's old stuff. 'Premium.' *coughs.* £££. The Mac desktop is a train wrek.

21 inch. Why don't they just put a bullet in the 21 inch. Put it down humanely. And ship a 24 inch Intel iMac option. Should have done it years ago...but supply chain Tim's Apple was too busy nickle and diming his customers. £1250 for a 21 inch monitor desktop. It's poor value wit yer Fusion Sake drive...and the stick of 8 gigs teh Ram...and the apology of a 'gpu.'
'24' inch. They used to have this in their line up. It should never have left. Even Steve Job's Apple managed to put out a 24 inch iMac. It seems this size is going to the new ARM iMac. That will make it 'appear' that iMac owners are getting a good deal. But I bought my 24 inch iMac in a sale for? £1250. :p I don't see the progress. You know, like paying extra for 'normal' keyboards.
27 inch. The only good thing about the iMac 5k is that screen. The rest is medicore. (I'm trying to be polite...)

Doom Land(TM.) Apple's Mac Desktop.

you could be right about that. Sadly, I don't think we will see anything today but would glad to be wrong.

over the weekend that's the conclusion I have come to as well.

No warehouse photographs....no CAD model drawings... It's very woolley. I know a story about a man about a dog who sells blab...

Meanwhile, I don't have the money for buying a new Mac, whether it's Intel or AS. At least not in the coming month. Still finishing this freaking thesis.

Still hoping my MBP doesn't explode... Each time I hear a "crack" I check if it comes from the laptop 😂

Trackpad not clicking anymore.

Good luck with the Thesis. You'll get there. :)

Sounds like the Macbook Pro is hanging by a thread. Never was a laptop person, m'self. I always thought they were just portable desktops. ie. They went from one desk to another desk. And the track pad used to give me 'claw' hand rsi. And I was always suspicious if the keyboard or eg. trackpad failed...I'd have to get the whole thing down at the repair shop...at £££ rather than just buying a new keyboard. (Even these aren't cheap these days for Apple kit...when did Apple kb and mouse get so expensive?)

Still, critics may say, I own(ed) an iMac which is just a laptop on a stick....so maybe I've just had a laptop with a bigger screen...

...I'd buy a tower if Apple offered one and a studio display at a sane price.

I think that leaking Apple products is quite a risk for the people that are doing that, so it might not be worth for them to leak some iMac information, which is "not-that-interesting" product in comparison with iPhone.

You guys are all over the place. My head hurts!

It's not us. It's Apple. They're all over the place.

They've delivered 3 mediocre product releases so far this year. Nominal updates. Nothing special.

They're all in for the iPHone12. As well they might. It's their £££ and their news, mindshare and customer base success is still anchored around this. For now. And the near future. That's the priority.

Irritating for iMac fans, though.

We're left to feed on the scraps of whispers, and deciphering the runes of their tea leaf reading.

Apple can't get their ****(*) (stuff) to gether. :p

But they had a kick az WWDC 2020 with the promise of pipeline (we get that a lot under Cook...the 'pipeline...' etc.)

There's no light at the end of this pipeline tunnel.

Yes.

Save that we're in for a congested September to Dec?

This latter statement being the only reasonable 'certainty.'

And yes. We can only go by past behaviour. And iMacs are 'fall' products (in the main...) Which means? More waiting.

(My iMac is dead...)

So for me? More....'ARGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGH!'

I hope that means an RNDA2 6600'm' option? Or something like that.

And not at £800 either.

There is an ireland factory?

Yup. Apple has been making Macs in Cork, Ireland for decades.

How hard is it for Apple to give its customers a heads up of upcoming products, not vague "it's in the pipeline". I've been with Apple a long time and this crap is starting to getting annoying. The customer is constantly performing guess work when they want to buy a new product.

Apple doesn't want to get hit with an "Osbourne Effect". If they announce a new model is coming within a few weeks, nobody would buy the current model and Apple would have to eventually clear those models out at a discount. They already suffer this to some extent with the iPhone because everyone knows a new iPhone always comes out in September so sales for the prior quarter are always significantly lower as everyone is waiting for the new model.

I am wondering what the delay would be about anyway.

Maybe Apple is just selling a lot more Macs due to COVID? With so many tech companies now doing "work from home" through the end of the year, maybe there is just a significant spike in demand so the factories are overwhelmed filling orders? Q3 earnings will be released on the 20th and if Macs show a significant spike in revenues...

Computer issues during thesis writing is very common :). Part of making the grade - haha. MSc of PhD?

There's no place here for reasonably logical comments! ha..
