Says, 'Within a month.' (Of the article, date 28th.) With a 'higher' price. New design. (Might explain the 'higher price.' :p So we may have the tier two price of £1950 for the 'new' 'entry' 27 inch iMac. ie paying to have SSD as standard and higher RAM...and maybe starting at 8 core.)

That puts an iMac release 'up to' the 28th of July.

Specs? The link say (nothing too 'wishful thinking' about that...)
  • Intel 10900k processor.
  • Amd Navi 21 Graphics.
  • Up to 64 GB of ram
  • SSD only (starts with 512GB and go up to 4 TB of SSD)
Worth a read. :)

Arguably has to be at this stage. I don't see an Apple Silicon besting an 18-core Xeon in Round One (though I expect it will get there soon enough).

They'll cripple it when they release their version of a 'Xeon.' (AS15?)

I'll expect the AS14 to humble it here and there eg. on single core and certain workloads.

Nah, this guy is probably on this forum and he summarised it. I dare to say that he has no clue :)
I guess, I'll take a break and come back on tuesday :)
Hehehehehe

Agreed. I mean we already know from benchmarks that the iMac is not getting the i9-10900K but instead a down-clocked i9-10910.

And Navi 21 is a 505mm chip with a TDP said to be in the 300W range, which is RX Vega 64 territory. So I could see it in an iMac Pro, but not an iMac (especially a redesigned iMac meant to eventually house Apple Silicon so it won't have better thermal limits than current models).

Navi 22/23 are the ones that are similar to the Radeon RX 570/580 series in the current iMac (as are the 5600/5700 models) and would be the ones we should see in an iMac (if available).

This seems to be the story of our lives: Nothing this week, come back next week for more disappointment from Apple. I would think that Bottom Line Tim would be wanting to gather the money that so many of us want to throw his way! *sigh*

Like Freida said - See you on Tuesday, mates. ;)

I think more and more that we won’t see an Intel iMac before September IF there is an Intel iMac. Simple feeling thought.

I believe there will be an Intel Mac and I agree that it will probably won’t be until September - October.
Really sucks. I’m so tempted to just build a pc but every time I start picking out parts ..
I’m like why. Maybe I’m just getting old.

I really want a Mac Pro because I like towers and the ability to upgrade as I go but not sure it is worth the coin at this point.

Look at the upside. It won’t come with Catalina pre-installed. The most buggy Mac OS ever.
I gets shivers whenever someone mentions the C-word. Truly the worst piece of software ever created, especially when paired with a Mac mini. Lethal combination!

I‘ve just ordered one today. If you‘re willing to invest in an Intel iMac there‘s no reason not to invest in an Intel Mac Pro if you need the power right now.

Deeper dive into the mystic delivery times: It is only the 6-core chip that has delivery time of 8-9 weeks. Configs with the 8-core chip has delivery times of 3-4 weeks. I also found that the 2TB SSD results in 8-9 week while all other disks has 3-4 week delivery. Seem to me like a COVID-19 related delay rather than a new iMac arriving as the delay is caused by some specific components.

Regarding resolution and screen sizes. I think Apple will not go away from retina (218/219 DPI) so I think a new display will be 32 inch (6k) rather than 30.

So MBP get a redesign based on AS. It also coincide with the miniLED rumours so it is possible the AS will get the miniLED screens. I wonder if Intel Mac will go miniLED.

* MY BTO Has the best i9 with the 8 core & 1TB SSD and it's 70+ days out.....Date is Sep 15th-22nd.....so I think some of the BTO 8 core models still have the long wait time.

There was just one of those on the refurb store but it sold pretty fast

I dont technically NEED it right now but I would just like to get something instead of the constant anxiety of when something will or wont get released. This whole switch to AS has made it even worse.

I got one of the i9 1tb 580x refurbs on Wednesday. Was delivered today. Couldn’t wait. Now new ones will probably be released next week.

So many heads in the clouds. Probably most of us are guessing completely wrong

I had the exact opposite experience with it. Worst Beta I have ever tried, albeit very early on of course. If you only use apple apps it is probably fine. Not good for audio production.

What wasn't working for you? I'm literally getting an imac specifically for audio production.

He was talking about macOS Big Sur.....

Yea I know, I should have clarified..sorry. I meant what within Big Sur wasn't working well with Audio? Was everything within Logic working? Was it 3rd party plug-ins not working?

Interesting, in Denmark, only the 2 Tb SSD models has long delivery time for 8-core BTO. Still compatible with idea of COVID-19 depended lack of component rather than a new iMac.

You are probably right, but at this point nothing can be assumed. A new Intel iMac and a new iMac Pro just before or during the transition to AS seem to be an excessive effort on a dying platform. Alternatively it would be a safety net that AS cannot deliver in high performing computing. The latter would not be good for Apple.

People in 18-core territory would likely go Mac Pro at the moment. I think the biggest problem with the Mac Pro is to be forced to pay 6000-7000 USD for an Apple designed monitor.

Not really. You can use almost any monitor you want with the Mac Pro. That's one of the advantages of this machine. But yeah, Apple tries hard to make you think that. Ordering my Mac Pro almost drove me crazy with all the options. Until I realized: There's no real need to take any of these upgrades (except for the CPU and the SSD maybe) directly from Apple. You could actually start with the base configuration and let it grow with your needs over the next couple of years. That I think is the biggest advantage you get over an iMac and is also the reason why this machine is so expensive.

Of course you can order any monitor but looking at a plastic dell monitor take some of the Mac feeling out of the equation. Not for me. Ok, 32 inch is also too big for my desk. My idea was that Apple should have a 1000-1500 27-inch monitor to got with their mac line to have a complete Mac experience.

Actually, the Dell ones are not that bad. I tried a BenQ and there the plastic was really cheap in comparison, so I returned it after some back and forth. I now bought the LG 5K and I do love it. I don't really need an Apple logo on the monitor to get the full Mac experience. But I do agree, it would be nice of course.

Fortunate for you, but I am different. I also have my desk facing the room so actually the back side is important for me. Personally I do not like the back side of the XDR display very much. Current iMac form from the back is nice though.

What Apple should do is to make the 24 inch AS iMac with target display mode and if you need Intel for some reason, you can plug it into a Mac mini or a laptop. They probably will not.

I am in a shared workspace and my direct neighbor has the XDR with the backside facing the corridor so I pass by a couple of times every day. You're right, it's really not that nice once you're over the initial "WOW" moment. But then again you limit yourself quite strongly if you shop your hardware based on how they look from the back...
