iMac, some models out of store stock for over two month now, is listed for the 18th on apples homepage to return to every single store in Europe... previously only listed as "not available for pickup" for said several month of unavailability.
What more do you want?
I wonder how they're gonna cool these power hungry chips without a redesign.
I'm gonna go with "not very well"
Sounds to me like August speed bump, 24" AS imac late year (at earliest) with early 21 ship. 27" AS/redesign, maybe preview with the 24 announcement. Anyway, this is what I surmise from all the rumors and tweets and articles so far.
exactly! The whole reason I’m just thinking of getting the old iMac Pro.
sure it’s “long in the tooth” as people are saying on here but look at reviews. Mostly 5 star with most saying it’s the best Mac they’ve ever owned.
I’ll take that over a glowing hot chassis with a fan constantly running.
Very true. You won’t be able to resell you 2020 mac intel as high as before. The biggest problem I see with this bump is that imacs (especially bto ones) are expensive. Some very expensive. And resale value on a new design/new chip cycle is going to be way less than people have been used to. Just beware of your investment and expectations along those lines.
I think Prosser is probably right and it will be August. We had a tweet saying 19th and now one saying 24th.
I missed that part.
you mean for bto models?

The trolls with fake Twitter accounts are out and having a bit of fun at our expense.
It doesn’t help that every Mac site is posting up every rumour, without any regard for truth and integrity. No, they’re not journalists by any stretch of the imagination, and I get it all about page views and ad dollars. And of course I don’t have to click on the articles.
That doesn't means anything... it's months that the availability dates for in stock models changes between august and september

not sure if anyone noticed... but the twitter account that posted the whole "Monday" thing, deleted his tweet.

That design is so ugly in todays standards. Its just shocking how bad it is. I hope iPhone will start to flop soon as that is probably the only way for Apple to wake the fusion up.
AS has potential and it has potential to introduce much better pricing for customers. Will Apple do it? Unlikely but it would be nice. Recent pricing is getting ridiculous.
I can attest to the fact that for my audio production use, the imp fan never comes on to where I can even notice it. that and the 10 cores and the fast drives make this still very capable.
I mean... we didn't post it

No. In store pickups all over Europe switched from "not available for pickup" to "available to pickup on 18th of august" yesterday. (excluding the highest tier 27 inch iMac wich is listed available 30th of September in all stores).
They increased and revised the cooling of the Mac mini in 2018. It was mainly an internal redesign. New CPU, new thunderbolt controller, new T2 chip...
Hope the iMac will have the same revision. The design is not *that* bad. I'm still amazed when I see a 27 inch iMac sitting on a desk. But revising the internals seems mandatory, really. If they don't do so, it's going to be a flop.
Actually the current imac design is akin to having the iphone 11 in the iphone 8 form factor.

The lottery starts again: it's today, nope it's on wednesday... no! It's the 18th august, but why not, the 24th... but why stop here? It will be the 28th december... 2154!
Yeah, got tired of waiting and slapped together a "Hack Pro" with some spare parts. Much easier nowadays!

I’m beginning to wonder if I should just bite the bullet and go with the MacBook 16”. August 24th? Really? Wait another month for a damn spec bump?
At which point do we stop about the shipping times etc.? It has been like this for WEEKS and it keeps shifting all the time. By now we know its not an indicator (as otherwise we would have the update already) so can we just leave this for good? Eventually we will be right but only by sheer luck and not because its valid. Covid messed everything (as we can see) so lets gossip about RDNA2?![]()
You know how to get me excited 🥰🥰🥰
Having read the last few pages of this thread (and the internet in general), the take away from it is basically:
- Don’t buy the current iMac’s because they’re outdated and overpriced.
- Don’t buy the new Intel iMac when it’s released because it’ll be overpriced and the new processor will overheat and be subject to throttling. Also the new Apple silicon will be coming soon so it’ll be redundant in a couple of years anyway but…
- Don’t wait for the new Apple silicon, wait a couple of years before buying because things probably won’t transition smoothly (third party software, DAW’s, VST’s etc..)
- Don’t buy a Windows PC because new AMD processors are coming along with next gen AMD and Nvidia GPU’s
What exactly are we supposed to do?

Overpriced for 2017 tech.Buy the 2019 iMac. It has great reviews. A solid computer that, although an old design, will perform very well. I think the redesign will be next year and we don't know with things going sideways in the world everything is unpredictable
Strange, the i9 with fusion drive (2Tb) i 1-2 week but if I change it to 2Tb SSD or 3Tb fusion drive , it goes to 8-9 week.COVID-19 shortage of components.Well if I change it to the i9 and keep the Fusion drive it says 08/10/2020 - 14/10/2020 but if change the fusion drive SSD the dates change to 19/08/2020 - 26/08/2020.
So maybe there is something going on? This is doing my head in!!!
These leakers are a bit like the people who don't want to wear masks (due to covid) and make a big huff & puff about it. perhaps I am guilty of sharing their tweets and buying into it.
