But you *never* do this. Or if you do, you are dumb as f....

I sincerely don't care a product bends when doing it on purpose. If in my normal day-to-day usage it doesn't, why should I be bothered by this ?

iPhone 6 was more problematic. Sometimes you have it in your back pocket. You sit, the pocket applies force onto it, bends it... That wasn't good.

But if you are able to put a 12.9" iPad Pro in your back pocket and sit on it, it's damn time to exercise...

Yeah. Do it on purpose. It will for sure bend. 🤦‍♂️

Take care of it. It will never do.

Well. Ofc no rational user will do this to their iPad.

But to me, it's clearly not as sturdy as the 11' inch version.

Fortunately, the fall is on the horizon and maybe we'll get a proper iPad update with A14x in it.

It promises to be a monster.

Hopefull with more iRigid. And then I can buy it.

Because I'd like to. ;)

Azrael.

Thats apologist bias (sorry but it is). 12.9" is super flexy and the force needed to show is super minimal. Take Air 2 and 2018/2020 model and apply the same force (approx of course).

You will see Air 2 will be way more sturdy whilst 2018/2020 will flex as fusion.

Sorry, but you are just too biased.

Lol I just did it on mine. Nope. Didn't see any flex while sincerely applying good pressure.

For the record, I really don't like these 'test to destruction' videos. I didn't like it when the Gadjet Show (here in the UK...) dropped a G4 tower from a window. "nooooooooooooooooooooooo....'

Or put an iPhone 6 in a blender.

However, they do illustrate if Apple are doing their job. Well enough.

It pushed Apple to try harder. Especially in the case of the bendy iPhone 6. Extreme though some of these videos are.

But I couldn't bend the older iPads this easily. Thin is ok with the usual caveats.

I didn't bend the iPad in the store in half...as I'm sure the manager would have had words...

But I did flexing on opposing diagonal corners. (and I have nice, gentle hands...lol.) I wasn't satisfied with that. Others might be.

If they bring the rigidity of the 11 inch to the 12.9 inch (which you're paying extra for that size...and it should be strengthened accordingly.)

Azrael.

Of course you don't do this, you would be stupid. It, however, goes to show that its not as rigid as previous models so as this can't lie flat on the table (due to protruding camera) or other scenarios where you put your hand on and draw or you have it in a back pack and someone lightly bumps into you - it could be an issue.
We are not talking about someone sitting on this or doing the stuff in the video. NOT AT ALL, but over long period of time this could get worse. Also, heat might make the frame even weaker as AL is overall soft material.
Maybe someone can correct me if 40C would make a structural difference than at 20C

Regardless, I'll for for a fix. I'm not risking this even though I would really love to get an iPad as this Air 2 is just super old now and can't keep up with some things (especially now in the summer)

Just wanting a more sturdy product because a previous one with a completely other design was isn't a good reason IMHO.

You are going to wait forever I think.

iPhone 6 owners wanted the same thing. Because it's the Apex Apple product, Apple took an almighty beating over that in mindshare until they did the right thing.

Yeah. The Air 2 is a good example of what I'm getting at.

They had the balance right there. *nods.

Not for aluminum.

Really not convinced at all.

Anyway. It's your opinion. I love my 12.9 iPad. Wouldn't change it for anything else. I feel safe with it. If you don't and want to wait forever, your choice guys ! 🍻

Well, I don't like these videos either, I think they are stupid click baits.

BUT!!!

At the same time, it forces Apple to improve and we get better products in the end. Just like iPhone 6, or Antenna gate etc. - these videos help for the customer to get better product next time so I'm kinda grateful that there is enough critics because sometimes Apple listens and we win.

As for the blender - well I think it was genius because it was a marketing strategy of blender (Blendtec) company that to me makes the best blenders and this was their "free" marketing to reach to masses.
In fact, if I was investing in a good blender now I wouldn't get anything else than Blendtec - those blenders are truly amazing. So yeah, 'Will it blend?' was very smart move from them. :)

Lol.

Yes.

The 'Az' test.

Or the 'partner' sat on it on the sofa test...'

The iPhone 6 showed that Apple can get it wrong on materials and structure. They clearly did. And I'm not satisfield that two index fingers can push down lightly on opposing corners and make it flex.

Others may be 'ok' with that. That's for their own internal counsel.

Yeah. Apple are 1.5 trillion. They need to be pushed to walk the talk. Whether iMacs or iPads. Or iPhones. If any customer, just one wants to call them out. They are entitled to do so. Ultimately, we all win.

That reminds me. That's a good call. I may need a new blender to replace my Nutribullet gadjet.

So Blendtec. I'll have a look at their stuff.

OF course it is. Its a matter of principle - I'm simply not going to compromise my believes here. To me it flexes too much for my taste and I'm not willing to risk it as if there is an issue in 2 years time or so I will be paying for the repair and that is not what I want to do. I pay Apple premium because I expect the products to last. Those of you on 2012 iMacs etc. should appreciate this kind of thinking.
And seeing how rigid my Air 2 is I really don't see why I should pay almost $2000CAD for a weaker device and hope it will be ok.

iPhone 6 was ok for me and yet it was fixed in 6S despite Apple telling us (and showing us) that iPhone 6 is fine!
So yeah, I will gladly wait for iPad Pro 2020S!

Glad you are happy with yours but I don't want to risk it especially now when 2020 update was a joke. :p

What relevance to this thread?

Well. I believe that the iMac and iPad's destiny's are inextricably linked.

Anyone who saw that 'ARM' link I posted yesterday will see where I'm coming from.

I might be a bigger Apple fan than you two. I have lower standards. Lol.

Good lad, pldelisle. You're clearly a passionate Mac and Apple guy.

That's why we're all here.

I like your candor and humour. :D

I have a 2018 12.9" iPad Pro and it is 100% awesome. Literally the best device I have ever owned. It is not bent. I carry it everywhere. But really omg I hope this 100% awesome thread is not infected by bend-gate.

The thing i DO hope AS does for the mac lineup is update transparency. For example with the iPhone, people generally know when updates come in the year. They can plan for purchases based on that knowledge. If Apple is producing their own chips, I hope we're able to get a better handle on 'mac events' than we have now.

Midlands. (in the middle of the 'England'...UK...) Some thing that is wildling territory. It's not. You need to go further up north into Yorkshire or the 'umberlands for that...as for the ice creatures...Scotland...beyond the wall...

Beer (we call it 'a pint...') or Tea - Ear Grey. Hot. (and yes, there's coffee drinkers here in the UK...)

If you come here one day, I'll shout you 'a pint.' ;)

I expect 18 months release for every new chips. This is mostly how TSMC works too.

There's no doubting the iPad is 100% awesome as a concept and product. The 1st one I tested with promotion? I wished I'd have bought that model.

Smooth as butter.

Your 2nd point is bullet point. We hope we get a better and more transparent shipping schedule/update from Apple on AS.

Mac events we can trust and handle.

18 months. I could live with that.

It's the iPhone that is driving this transition. Sheer force of units and £££. It will tug boat the iPad and AS Macs to greatness.

Though I'm bored of iPhone? I recognise it's importance to finally bring balance...

For anyone who likes digital painting.

Smith Micro have a 30% off Rebelle (beautiful digital watercolour painting...)

A very affordable app.

I have it. I make a point of buying software in deep sales. It's possible to make big savings that way. Especially ones with dual Mac/PC licenses.

Ergo: my (soon...) quest to have a dual Mac and PC set up.

Just waiting for the 1st domino to fall...

My comment to iPad bending issue: of course if you take really good care of it, it won't bend. But for the money you pay for it, Apple could use different material to make it more resistant to flexing / bending. I guess even titanium won't be so expensive (for Apple).

I personally want to take just normal (non-obsessive) care about my stuff. If the device can't handle it, I won't even consider buying it.
