Oh, no not again. Why is an event needed for an updated Intel/AMD iMac? What else is in the pipeline? AirPods studio? iPad? In my opinion, not worth a traditional event.

However, events today will likely be online as WWDC was, so even smaller impact products might work well in that online format.
You might want a small online event to boost a dead-on-arrive sh*tty product ...

Oops.

Did I say that ?

"We wanna do that at the lowest price we can!"

I wish Tim would go back to this

The Mac High Priest and Prophet. The immortal Steve Jobs. You're plucking my heart strings here, Freida... ;)

'We can't ship junk.' Steve Jobs.

*Looks at iJunk priced at £1050 with HD drive, non-retina screen...and..duo core inTeL.*

Amazingly how uninteresting Intel and AMD news have become after a certain summer day in 2020.

You know. The 'mono-culture' (Team Red vs Team Blue) that we in many areas of society from Politics to gpus to cpus...is very uninteresting. The more competitors the better.

After WWDC2020? Intel and AMD became a whole lot more uninteresting. A 1.5 trillion gorilla just stepped into the ring. In WWF talk? The smack talk is going to start...before the trash can gets thrown and the fight breaks out...and...someone is going to go down...

Let us not forget before 'we left PPC behind...Intel (and M$...) were the immortal enemy.

I won't mourn their passing. No crocodile tears here.

I'd rather watch the WWDC footage of the AS reveal again and again. I was very impressed with what I saw.

My iMac couldn't do any of that. So, I'm impressed that a fanless cpu/gpu can do stuff that 2012 late iMac couldn't do or a hard pressed 2019 can do..? (Without teh fans...) So much so. It couldn't do 2004 without frying it's gpu.

Does this guy even have a track record? Credibility? If Apple really ships iMac at the end of August it would be another dick move. Wtf Apple

It's been that long since Apple released an iMac....do even Apple have a track record... :p

We must be positive. Better days are coming at Apple regarding computers. It will take time, but don't lose faith. Yeah, Apple ships junk right now. But it's going to change soon. By December 2021 or so, the majority of the line up will be on Apple Silicon.

There is loads to be positive about for future iMacs. For AS. For Big Sur. For 'Mac' finally joining the iOS eco party.

Faster Macs.
Gaming gpus.
Possibly cheaper or certainly better value for money.
Tighter integration.
Specialised performance with co-processors to dramatically accelerate user focused tasks.
Smoother user experience vs 'just' raw generalised performance.
1 million iPad apps.
Millions of iPHone apps.
A universe of casual games.
Instant accept to a universe of Devs.
Write once. Deploy once.
Any iPad or Iphone App is a Mac apps.
Smooth gaming on a Mac Mini.
Actual gpu performance on a Mac Mini.
The 'XMAC' WILL COME. (See AS Mac Mini. I threw that in just for gusping...)
This 'XMac' will run an XDR monitor! (I threw that in for Freida...)
Thermal efficiency...
Passive performance.
Equivalent or better than Intel/AMD perf' with better thermal efficiency.
Allowing exotic new form factors.
iPad style iMac design.
iMac Surface Studio... (in the works, allegedly...)
AS14. A14x. A14. (That is one power mother load of cpu/gpus right there.) 'Family.'
Touch based Macs.
Apple Pencil on Macs.
Full Fat 'MacOS' on iPad and iPhones.
Synchronicity of devices will be HARD...core. (Or HARD PWOAR as I like to tell it. *Nods slowly...whilst looking at the camera...)
Games. Games. And moAR games.
Triple AAA games and devs will be tug boated along to Mac care of? AS being 100% compatible with 'A' iOS family.
Tuned performance. Optimised.
Tuned software to hardware.
Co-processors.
Better single thread performance.
8 cores as standard. 12 if you count the 4 littles.
50-100% more performance. For the same price or less.
Photoshop bake offs.
Boasting about our platform being better.
IMproved quality of games due to competition. Having an actual 'gaming' platform with bespoke Apple Arcade service (long term? it's going to open like Tsunami.)
Improved apps due to Adobe and MS having shed loads more competition.
Software innovation.
Hardware innovation.
Quicker. Improved hardware schedules that Apple controls not dep' on Intel/AMD.
Buy with high confidence knowing you have got buttery iPad style user experience. (As opposed to clunky paradigms in software and hardware...)
If Apple Fusion Sake it up...we can give them an almighty kickin' as no one on these forums can blame Intel or AMD anymore...

For the patient...? Keep the faith...

A new destiny awaits. It's closer than we think...and it will be over by this time next year. (Dismisses the Mac Pro...wait until you get an AS Mini that outperforms the entry Mac Pro...)

40-50% faster than 2080Ti?

...and is there an even 'bigger' Navi set to go toe to toe with Nv 3090?

Whatever NVIDIA has cooking with Ampere is going to be big, but from what I'm seeing we're going to see a huge shake up at the sub $600 range. If I can buy a next-gen PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X console with a 16-thread AMD processor, RDNA 2-based GPU, and super-fast GDDR6 for less than $600 -- a graphics card on its own for $600 better be freaking good.

Read more: https://www.tweaktown.com/news/7377...50-faster-than-geforce-rtx-2080-ti/index.html

From 'that' link.

The biggest gpu shake up in a decade, I'd say. And more '£££' value competition.

It may seem like a 'slow no-show' right now.

But from September onwards...it's going to start kicking off tech' wise.

Hopefully Apple will drop a Mac morsel our way in August.

not convinced. why do I feel like an Apple zombie being led down the path to ios.

There is nothing new from Apple but evolved fleecing in the last ten years.

The proof is in the pudding.

And the current pudding is iStale.

I saw enough from WWDC2020 on an A12z to give a tantalising taste of what's to come. (Especially when I count the Intel Mac Mini as it's most direct competition.)

Counting myself as highly cynical re: Apple.

There will be no hiding place for AS Macs. No Intel. No AMD to point the finger at.

You're only as good as your last desktop. And Apple's last desktops are mediocre and over priced.

They'll do well to release AS Macs that don't perform as well. There's alot riding on the AS for the Mac platform. Being equal or less won't be good enough. There will have to be a performance, thermal or design edge that comes from it. Or all three. And ultimately, it's about releasing the Mac from it's glass ceiling prison of the last ten years.

Software. Software. Software.

I'm bored of phones. And iPhone. But by any measure. It's a truly outstanding product. In hardware. In software. In apps. Apple have evolved it into an art form.

The iPad (iBanana aside...) is a truly outstanding device. With great apps. A true paradigm shift. An intimate Mac you can draw and paint on.

But both of these should offer some hope to what Apple can do with an 'A' cpu/gpu that is unconstrained by power limitations...or generic solutions from 3rd parties.

Or for those with half empty cups. It can't get any worse.

iZombie. I stopped buying their phones and pads years ago. I want alot more for my money than iterative performance.

So now? I wait for the mega jumps.

And this fall? It begins...

I doubt Apple will name their Silicon "M". "Mx" was associated to the Motion Coprocessor in iPhones and iPad. It's now included in Apple SoC, but would be weird to call it "M".

If true and under £1,000, i’ll sod off the next gen consoles and build a £2-2.5k gaming PC. 144hz goodness, beautiful. Thanks for sharing all this RDNA 2 stuff, Azrael. You’re a good lad.

Noisy. Ouch.

What kind of work are you doing on it?

Azrael.

Simple games from Stellaris, WOW, or WOWs. I have had it spike on a twitch stream. All it takes is one thread to spike and the fan is off to the races.

On another note, considering the price point of Apple TV which is an ARM based system I am not holding my breath that Apple will restrain themselves on pricing. If anything there is a good chance they will come down the line with you can't buy this performance on Intel but you can with us, for a price
