one thing I really miss on this iMac is actually TouchID for passwords etc. authentications.
Smooth Work Azrael. Nice to see you getting your machine a work out. I'm working on some 3D symbols today of some light boards. Drafted in Vectorworks, I haven't applied textures to this one yet, but even with lighting options set at max this went fairly quick.

Super Super happy with Final Cut and the iMacs performance on it so far.
I got my RAM installed today. Didn’t bother trying to get the stock memory to work at full speed with the 2x32GB Samsung modules. Seems like a lost cause.

I finished transferring data and installing apps. Everything seems very fluid. Very happy, but I haven’t done anything to really push it yet. I’m waiting for Fusion 12 to release so I can make use of the free personal license for my lab.
IMO, the 5700XT and 10 cores are options "needed" when you use your Mac as a living. As a software engineer, I'd go 10 cores, but not 5700XT. If someone make rendering all day long or graphics intensive as its job, the duo probably worth it. Unless, hard to justify a 505$ CAD upgrade for CPU and an additional 250 $ CAD over the Radeon Pro 5700. I'd take the 5700 for maybe resell value (if it will have any) and I feel it has more power for driving 2 4K external displays. How are you happy with the 5700, please? And how are the thermals on this config? I'm currently testing 8core with 5500XT and so far its great. GPU is actually better than expected but I'm still gonna go with 5700. Just wondering between 5700 and XT version (although I feel normal is probably more sensible).
So, what is your feedback etc. please?

I don’t think it would fry, really. GPUs are more enduring today than it was in 2012. I wouldn’t be scared. In summary. I won't be working this as a 24/7 render box. I have forthcoming PC purchase for that. I don't want to 'fry' this through abuse.
I haven’t done anything that would show a difference to the 5500xt yet. I might get some time today, so if you have anything specific you want me to try, let me know. How are you happy with the 5700, please? And how are the thermals on this config? With the sudden, but not unexpected, outlook to work at home due to COVID-19, I bought an iMac as well. I thought I was going to wait for the 24 inch AS iMac but I do not have time for possible software issues or wait for a new machine. I still think the current machine is beautiful so I am fine with bezels and all.
So what did I buy?
i7, 5700 (no clue if it gives any value), 16 gb (I am old-fashioned and closes apps I do not use), 4 Tb as I likely make some videos in the future. Nothing fancy though. I might also need it for caching Onedrive as I have a slow net. The camera, speakers and microphones are additional features that are good to have for home work and to create lectures.
That 27 inch screen will make it a nice private space for watching movies - I have saved watching LOTR for this big screen. I am very tempted to buy B&O H9 to go with this setup but I wait for the Apple AirPods Studio before deciding.
What do I have now? An university issued 2013 MBP, 2.3GHz i7, 16 GB RAM, 750 NVIDIA, 512 Gb. It is not slow but it is small screen for extended homework and the fan starts when videoconferencing. It gets relegated to lab/teaching work and will happily live there for years to come. No, the Uni will not pay for an iMac I find suitable .
New iMac next week.
Apple used the keyword in the YouTube video.
I had a bit of time to run a few benchmarks today. I've had it 2 days now, so I think all the background tasks should have normalised.
Geekbench Single-Core 1307, Multi-Core 8664, Open CL 46435, Metal 51427.
Unigine Heaven 2560x1440 Fullscreen Ultra 66.8FPS, Score 1682.
Blender BMW 2:43
Geekbench scores are average of 3 runs, Unigine and Blender are just a single run.
The fans were doing their thing towards the end of the CPU benchmarks, but I didn't think it was excessive. The fans in general use have settled down, and I can't hear them unless I put my ear right up to the machine. I'm in a central city apartment though, which isn't the quietest, so YMMV.
Oh, and I solved the feeling of the screen being too small compared to my old 40" screen by moving the iMac closer.
Yes, I can always add later but I am never experienced cramped RAM space unless I do some stupid things in MODO. How can Word take 2.8 Gb of RAM?Gratz, iPadified.
Hope you enjoy it.
That 5700 will give you a balanced system. Plenty of bang for the buck.
4TB, eh? Plenty of room on that.
16 gigs of ram? (At least you can at more RAM affordably at your leisure later. I managed for years on 8 gigs.)
Azrael.
