Yes, I can always add later but I am never experienced cramped RAM space unless I do some stupid things in MODO. How can Word take 2.8 Gb of RAM?

It's like anything else. More is always nice (and you can tell when you have...on a good many things.). And those that need more for that 'certain something' always know who they are.

But you can manage with 16 gigs np. I managed with 8 gigs for 8 years.

Tomorrow we should have the announcement of the AMD Big Navi (Radeon RX 6000). Hopefully we will see them soon in a new iMac with Apple Sillicon.

Apple are doing their own GPUs.

Intel are out. AMD are out.

Big Navi. Look forward to meeting it. Hopefully the 'tomorrow' tweet is an NV' party spoiler. NV have done it plenty of times in the past to AMD.

Pay back time?

I don’t think it would fry, really. GPUs are more enduring today than it was in 2012. I wouldn’t be scared.

It's not the gpu I'm overly concerned about this time. It is that cpu that seems to really kick in the fan.

Great power. 'Soft' cooling.

Most of the time it's serene. Just when the machine is under duress.

It will certainly allow Apple to really demonstrate the efficiency of their chips vs Intel's.

Interesting.

The 5700XT holding up really well. Right behind a 2080 Super.

Not that far off a Ti.

And the 3080 isn't even twice as fast.

Anybody getting the RDNA1 gpus (5700's in particular...) will have no shame in them at all. For a 'mid-range' card, AMD did a very good job on price performance.

New iMac next week.
Apple used the keyword in the YouTube video for the keynote.
Shipping times for the 21.5 models are also suggesting a new small iMac by the end of September as shipping times have gone up to September 24 - October 2ed.

These might be just intel tiger lake after all, with the event happening two weeks after intel released them. xD
That would be so funny after all they sand castles in the sky that have been build here. :D

I imagine that the inclusion of WWDC also suggests the announcement of Pro Apps for iPad. Despite no iPad Pro being in the tags.

The iPad Pro. Macrumours suggestion next year? Originally scheduled for this fall?

Bit of a disappointment. Apparently it's on trial runs some while back.

Maybe they're saving the A14x for the Macbook AS for now.

I won't be in the market for the Macbook AS. But the iPad Pro? Oh baby...

My Apple Pencil will be very pleased to see it.

How are you happy with the 5700, please? And how are the thermals on this config?

Very happy. 5700 is the star of the show.

GPU seems fine. It's the one thing that used to chug in 3D modelling windows. Now? Models 'fly!'

For me? The CPU is the culprit. But what do I expect a 10 core cpu doing ray tracing to sound like, I guess. In fairness to the Intel CPU. It's blazing fast. (Pun intended.)

Maybe one day machines will be available that can do this quietly without a tiny fan or a water block.

The full line up? Some release days.

The 3080 and 3090(!) will be the ones to watch.

Eye watering price gouging on the latter, I'd imagine.

Certainly not on a x86 CISC CPU ??

Why would there be a new imac next week lol the new intel imacs were released just recently with a minor spec bump update, Its going to be an apple watch and iPad event.

There's nothing 'minor' about the iMac update. The spec boost was very substantial overall. The 5700 gpu. Not a gpu that could be accused of being minor. Or the break neck SSD speeds. Or the 10 core performance. Even the entry 6 core is now threaded. All the RDNA1 gpus perform well. And the boost in value from previous BTO performance options makes this update more substantial in value.

Not all iMac updates could be accused of that.

If you said the design and fans were 'minor' as in 'non-existent' then yes. Disappointing 'in that regard.'

It would be an apple silicon iMac.

It would surprise me if they're swapped the AS launch and the Phone launches around.

With a Macbook A14x (they could do an iMac 24 inch A14x...) previewed at the Sep' event and shipping in October.

All eyes will be on the Macbook A14x's performance.

True.

Though Apple could possibly announce a release month for the first AS iMac (to replace the 21.5”)? The 9-15 event YT placeholder video has iMac, MacBook Pro, MacBook in the metadata - that does not guarantee an announcement, but it’s fun to speculate.

I’d be very happy if they swapped the AS Mac and iPhone events around.

You’re talking about the highest speced Built to Order 2020 iMac Configuration, I’m talking about the 3 27 inch 2020 iMac configurations available in Apple Stores and they are minor spec updates compared to last year’s 2019 iMacs,
Is the i7 in the 2299$ configuration that much better than the 3.7ghz i5? Is the 5500 much better than the 580 from last year?

It didn't say you excluding the BTO options. But they're part of the iMac 2020 range. And they bury the 2019 iMac in some instances.

Just 'new Intel iMacs.'

The new RDNA1 gpus in the iMacs are offering substantial video encoding gains. Nothing minor about those. The 5500XT rivals the Vega 48. Once a £400+ BTO. Nothing minor about that.

The 8 core is now standard on the top tier 3. It exceeds the previous £££ BTO 8 core option in performance. Nothing minor about that.

Even the 6 core with hyper threading is a decent boost over the previous entrant.

The SSD as standard (previously a pricey option...) also offers substantial gains coming from FFSake drives.

The value boost is substantial. Not minor either.

Anything coming from a 2019 might not experience the warp drive improvements I experienced coming from a 2012.

But the improvements outlined above are substantial in value compared to the 2019 range. And yes. Performance.

Apple is going to basically test the new system in the release of the AS Macbook. Don't expect any other AS models for many many months.

I think so.

A14X power in a laptop with 15-20 hrs.

That will be how they define the AS move.

Efficiency.
