Funniest question ever :)))))

We don't know. AS is new thing and we have no idea yet as Apple didn't tell us much. Rumours are also a bit vague so no clue.

iMac today is very unlikely. If there is one though, I would guess that ram might not be accessible but at the same time, Apple may want to keep it user replaceable. We just don't know. We will know for sure in the next 20 months :)

If we see new iMac today, would it be possible to upgrade ram? If not I will stick with the new "old" 27"..

I have to say so far its underwhelming. The GPU is only competing with integrated graphics so and if I caught the slide info correctly the performance is under 3 teraflops so that is very very low.
I wonder what they will do with the iMac as 3 teraflops won't do for the 27".
M1 looks good as a starter for portables but I really hope there is something beefier for more iMacs and Mac Pros.

Also surprised that they haven't changed design at all. Almost feels like a half update. I guess the big guns will be on the next revision.

Suspect they’re holding back the really big specs until 2021.

What was announced today for the Mini and Air was impressive. Not sure why anyone would buy the M1 Pro over the Air...

It's hard not to be psyched for something right now!, but imagine an imac or imac pro etc.. I wonder how fast the new top end mini vs new macbook pro is compared.. I think we have at least several more months to wait for any sort of new imac and yes praying for a new snazzy design too.

The M1 in the MPB still has a fan, so tea leaves for iMac, I doubt you're getting fanless as has been discussed prior. The PPW / battery life sounds amazing, but frankly it's low hanging fruit - i3 i5 intel's are terrible. More interested in the performance where the rubber meets the road.

Impressive for its class, YES. Why buy PRO over Air? Simple - sustained performance as Air doesn't have a fan.
But the released stuff today is weak. 16" MBP wasn't updated because they know the GPU is simply not enough to compete yet (with what they showed us) and seeing that GPU is on the chip itself then I doubt we will see M1 and iMac or 16" MBP because its essentially the same thing. So either there will be M1 PRO (or X or something) or we will have to wait for M2 before we get upgrades for iMacs etc.

The GPU performance is simply not good enough for the big boys.

Suspect they’re holding back the really big specs until 2021.

Wonder if iMac will have the same GPU.

Yeah I think the potential is certianly there for some good pro stuff down the line starting next year sometime. We'll need more ram for starters.

We need better. iMac has 5700XT now and RDNA 2 is out this month which is even better.

Apple simply cannot compete on that level and they shouldn't release updated 27" iMac which has worse performance than their current option. So, there will need to be M chip version that is GPU heavy because this will simply not do.

I think Apple knows it also. Today's release was for 'light' users or 'on the go' users but not for pros or heavy users that need the maximum performance. So for that we will have to wait.
The fact that there was no redesign, not even better camera on the Air etc. simply tells me that this was introduction foreplay and the big stuff will happen next year at WWDC most likely.

This was just to get the toes wet. The good stuff is coming later. We just have to wait a little longer.

Also, they show mac mini connected to XDR. Really? Do they really think that a person gets mac mini and then gets $6k display with it? Why can't they just release a consumer level display that is for most of us. XDR is overkill on so many levels.
And if they really want to market it that way then at least they should make Mac Mini Pro which is a beast.

I think the event was weak. Boasting about performance increase over integrated graphics from intel is just not enough. :)

Yes, this is only iGPU. Apple is also developing more powerful GPUs, codename Lufika, for iMac and Mac Pro

They definetly need to figure out how to get up to 64 gb ram on the pro chips. maybe not so easy.

If Geekbench is to be believed, the M1 performs better as a CPU than the i9 in the 2019 MacBook Pro.

And Apple is developing their own GPU with more power than what is currently on the A14/A14X/M1 so we should see improved graphics scores with that unit when it starts shipping.

Better be good : )

I guess it has to at least match 5700 or its not a good sign. Today was boring but the next keynote should be interesting.

Talking about a redesign: all three new products with M1 soc didn't get a external redesign...

I'm affraid that the first M1(x) iMac won't get a redesign either...

Was going to say the same thing as @Cubix - how gutted/annoyed will people be if the first AS iMac is the existing 21" with a new chip, as they've done with the MBP, MBA and Mini?

I'm not surprised that the first wave did not get redesigns. Any issues with new hardware could be blamed on Apple Silicon, no matter how unrelated. The next wave are more likely to have redesigns to create additional excitement, and to show the advantages AS can give.

Since there is no new iMac, I think I going to proceed with iMac 27 2020. What do you think?
Introducing multiple new Apple Silicon Macs in one go means there is likely to be more space between future releases, so I doubt Apple are going to push out the next release quickly.

Putting some space between the keynote and now and reflecting - look at the state of everything - it still seems like the ingredients are there, but not the final best cake. I wouldn't want to run to the platform as a daily driver yet, a lot to be worked out yet. I think those that wait for 'M2' will be handsomely rewarded.

The iPad store pages don’t list the number of cores in the specs, but the new AS Macs do. I think it likely Apple will focus on the number of cores to differentiate the higher spec models rather than clock speed (which isn’t mentioned).

It is also interesting that they list the counts for 3 types of core: CPU, GPU, Neural Engine. I think they might be upping the counts for all three.

My guess is we will end up with the current chip named something like M1-32 (because of 8 CPU, 8 GPU, 16 NE cores) when there are more variants released, with higher models as such as M1-48, M1-64 and M1-128.

This just sounds hella confusing for people honestly. But then again this is the company that is now naming phones # PRO MAX, so all bets are off.
