That makes zero sense. If Apple ever planned redesigned for Intel then it would have happened on last refresh and not this one. That window closed and now its AS forward. Intel is dead to Apple

So, redesigned will only be AS and there will be no Intel iMac apart from the edu maybe but that would mean just selling the old model.

No new Intel iMacs are coming. See soon ;-)

What’s the chance that we’ll also get a redesigned Intel Mac as a higher end option with Big Navi graphics?

I think the only "lasting" high-end Intel option is going to be the Mac Pro. It makes sense for them to continue offering it alongside its impending AS counterpart for a while––lest they scorn their professional user-base yet again. It wouldn't be all that surprising, but you would hope they've learned their lesson jerking around the professional community by this point.

It's highly customizable as it is, so I doubt we'll see any true "updates" to the Intel model Mac Pro before it's eventually retired in favour solely of their AS offering.

What if the 1st gen AS iMac is still the beveltastic old design? Will people go for it? Or wait for a redesign?

I, personally, will be gutted if the design stays the same. Please please please Apple ??????

The death of the iMac Pro likely is related to Intel ending W-2100 series Xeon production this summer and Apple not wanting to have to order more units so they sold out of the stock they had (sans warranty reserves) and pulled the plug.

The 21.5" losing the 512GB and 1TB SSD models makes me believe Apple is ready to launch a new model (the ~24-inch) and they are keeping the 256GB/1TB Fusion models around for enterprise customers / low-end anchor to get consumers into the store to then upsell to these new M-powered models.

I still don't think we will see them this month. What would they show at WWDC if they show us big boy AS 2 months prior? I think iPad Pro and some other toys within few days/weeks and iMac and MBP at WWDC where they can boast a lot about the M1X and GPU (Lifuka)
Even though I would love it sooner I just don't think it will happen before WWDC.
Hardware isn't always shown at WWDC. They'll talk about new software for an hour and leave it at that.

I think it's much more likely for the new iMac to be unveiled at the April event. There are way too many signs suggesting that it'll be launched imminently or within the next month or so. Chip shortages are not as bad as some people think.

Maybe even May? Hopefully April though...

Can we retire this whole "WWDC software "only" thing", please? People keep bringing it up and people keep ignoring the many MANY WWDC where there as hardware. Its not an argument that holds or even stay true. Apple uses WWDC for hardware way too often for us to ignore that event. Surely, when announcing transition last year they will want to follow up on that and a product with M1X would be perfect. Not to mention the GPU that we are meant to be getting. April iPads.
Do we get an event between iPad event and WWDC? Possible but unlikely.

Don't get me wrong, I would love the iMac out ASAP as I'm waiting for it to buy but I'm just being 'realistic' here. :)

I would go for it if it has better GPU than M1. At least 16 GPU cores or more.

They would probably want to make the iMac the star of the show. After all, it's supposed to be redesigned in all sorts of colors and has a completely new Apple Silicon chip. Recent Apple events have only been an hour (sometimes less), so they wouldn't have much time at all to show off iOS 15, iPadOS 15, macOS 12 (or whatever they end up calling it), etc.

When Apple used to unveil hardware at WWDC, they had much longer than an hour, mostly to do with the fact that it wasn't a virtual pre-recorded keynote.

There have many clues regarding an imminent iMac refresh. Sure, we could see it in June, but there is code in the most recent macOS Big Sur beta suggesting that new iMacs exist, not to mention that one ARM iMac in Xcode. I will hold onto that April date unless it doesn't actually happen. :D

Yeah, it could but having iPad and iMacs together? Why not also MBP? If the chip is ready for iMac then surely its ready for MBP so there really is no hold up. In that case they might as well do it all and have WWDC be focused on software.
I would love that but I don't see it that way.
They will want to boast about their AS chip so I think we will get hardware at WWDC and iMac is probably the perfect candidate. New chip, new design, new screen & more = so much marketing fluff they will want to boast about.
In fact, it might create a massive buzz and even steal the show.

We will see, I have bday at the end of April so it would be nice to get earlier present but who knows. :)

The problem is there is now too much going on OS-wise to announce hardware at a WWDC keynote. I think the only possible way we get hardware announcements in that timeframe is if they split to a two-part keynote: one for hardware and one for software, perhaps on Monday and Tuesday.

They have FIVE new operating systems to cover and they want to do each one of them justice with adequate screen-time. iOS, iPadOS, macOS, watchOS, tvOS. All in one keynote. Absolutely no way they also announce brand-new redesigned MacBook Pros and iMacs all in that one event.

I’d be VERY happy if they faked out leakers with the ‘late 2021’ MBP release date and it was actually coming sometime between April and June, though ?

Yeah, so true. But do we have a lot software wise to cover? I feel they alternate and some releases are big and some are small. Mojave was big so now I think it will be just refinements and not too many new features so that won't take much. Same for iOS. Apple watch got not much last year so maybe this year there will be something better?
And tvOS didn't get much either so this year could be big with maybe even new AppleTV to go with it? Focus on games and VR etc. would make sense.
We will see but my guess is iMac WWDC :) as it will be tied to the new GPU and they will want to talk about it too.

Again, the software would take up all the WWDC time. Apple is very good at stretching out events to the one-hour mark recently, especially in regards to mundane things (loads of filler and fluff). I can see them doing the same for WWDC, so no room for bluffing about new iMacs or other hardware.

I think we might even see invites tomorrow if we're lucky. Apple event on April 6 with new iMacs? ?

As others have noted, Apple has announced new and updated Mac hardware at WWDCs a number of times in recent years. iMac Pro in 2017 and Mac Pro in 2019, for example. And, of course, the M SoC announcement at WWDC 2020.

Frankly, it makes sense to announce new iMacs and MacBook Pros at WWDC if they have the new Apple GPU and higher memory densities because developers will need to be briefed on them. Or if they have a new M-series SoC that is more than just higher core counts compared to the M1.

Yup, we’ll know tomorrow whether April 6th will be the date of the rumored April event! For some reason it doesn’t feel that imminent to me, but that’s just some random guy’s gut. The reports of the new iPad Pros going into production in ‘mid-to-late April’ make me think the 27th is actually the most likely event date, honestly. I think they’ll avoid the 20th for perception reasons. So either the 6th, 13th or 27th and the 6th could possibly be eliminated tomorrow.

Here in Boston, for the past week both MicroCenter and BestBuy have cut $300 from the list price of the Aug. 2020 iMac 21.5" Retina 4K (256GB SSD, 8GB memory), which seems to indicate inventory clearing. Hmm.

Interesting that none of the 27” models are getting fire sales or seeing longer shipping delays... They may just end up replacing the 21.5” with the redesigned 23-24” model now and save the 27” replacement for later

Yeah, thats how I see it as well. If we get Lifuka and its somehow separated then developer will have tons of questions so I don't see that being released 2 or so months before WWDC when its prime thing for WWDC prime time.
Apple is not doing off the shelf thing and as such WWDC is just perfect timing and reason to unveil such new stuff. I don't buy the software & enough time already - especially this year when its very specific.
M1 was a teaser with just low gpu performance. iMac&MBP and eventually Mac Pros is where the spotlight is and Apple knows that. WWDC is for that.

See my reply above. I think you off on this one. Time will show but what you are saying simply doesn't apply this year I think. iPad Pro April, iMac and maybe MBP WWDC!
Too many reasons to do it like that and no, software is not taking the stage only. Not with Lifuka and other stuff related to AS 'PRO' chip.
Its WWDC! My final offer :-D :-D

It would take some serious NERVE for them to do it. Not that I put it past them, but it would be such a joke and we'd never hear the end of it. And rightfully so. Those bezels are simply unacceptable in 2021 and to put an M-series chip in a dinosaur like that would be laughable. They better not.

But again, how will they have enough time to talk about all the software AND all that hardware you mentioned within at least an hour? All of Apple's events are much shorter than usual now that they're virtual (only one hour long at most so far).

Also, there are still so many indicators of an imminent release, so why would Apple wait three months when there's already iMac code in the current macOS beta and an ARM iMac in Xcode? Not to mention the discontinuation of some of the 21.5-iMac configurations.

It feels like something big is being prepared.

Last year WWDC was pretty much 2 hours. There is always time for hardware. You need to let go of this preconceived idea of software only. :)

I don't think we are getting anything today. Apple announced WWDC so I doubt they would cloud the spotlight with another thing. I would love to be wrong on this one but I guess we have to wait for the iPads a little longer. : )

WWDC is different to the product announcements. It was virtual last year, and 1 hour 48 minutes long.

In addition, it is likely many developers got reassigned to macOS while the major architecture switch needs work, so other OS development will not need so much airtime because they have fewer new features.
