Explain why Office 2011 does not work properly. What does not work properly? The other user said it worked just fine so I need an explanation.

Office 2011 works fine for many ( if not most ) - Outlook / Exchange is the main issue and the majority of complaints is with the exchange server, if your email is pop3 or IMAP outlook 2011 works just fine.

However if your work email is an exchange server like it is at many companies, outlook 2011 will probably crash when trying to synchronize. I have outlook 2011 ( with an exchange account) and it works most of the time, but crashes occasionally, word and excel work fine.

iPhoto - works fine - have multiple large photo libraries that I use iPhoto and "iPhoto manager" to manage photos and libraries- both apps work the same as they did in Yosemite.

MacKeeper - I agree with the other posters above - Might be a good time to drop this app.

I have never had a problem with the app. The only thing I will say is that their customer service/tech support is terrible. Thats really my only complaint. For example I contacted them to ask about the EL Captain upgrade and I got a response with bad grammar.

People must have had a bad install or some other problem that I have not experienced.

It sure runs allot better than some other Mac AntiVirus software from the past.

if you're brave enough to post the same questions in 3 threads here, you should be brave enough to google 'mackeeper'. you have all these people here telling you to remove it, but you're not listening...

Are you saying that the problems people are having with Outlook 2011 has nothing to do with those using Gmail as their email provider in EL Captain?

They have 121K likes on Facebook and over 10K followers on twitter. So what if a few from this site strongly dislike it. Its not going to persuade me.

There is good reason why people are advising to remove Mackeeper, since it`s early days the application has been suspected of malicious content/social engineering. Read for yourself then make an informed decision

http://www.thesafemac.com/?s=mackeeper
http://www.thesafemac.com/ongoing-mackeeper-fraud/#more-1739
http://www.thesafemac.com/beware-mackeeper/

If you feel the need for such a utility there are far better and safer alternatives available. At the end of the day if you keep or uninstall the application it`s up to you, equally the strong reaction is founded on experience, with many of the forum members having a "deep" knowledge of OS X security a point worth considering.

Yes, gmail works fine. It is kind of ironic that it is microsoft's own email ( exchange ) is the main problem.

FWIW - if I did not need to use exchange for my main work email and did not need to accept calendar invites from other exchange users I would probably switch to thunderbird, which seems to work great with El Capitan.

You should know that if you paid for Mackeeper, you can get a refund from the developer because their application does not do what it's advertised to do: https://www.macrumors.com/2015/08/10/mackeeper-refund-settlement/

I may be jaded, equally Outlook for Office 2011 failing to work correctly, would do no harm for Office 2016 sales, thankfully I have all my mail accounts up and running on Apple`s own Mail, with no issues. Same applies for Calendar.

Further to my post about office working for me. It would seem the problem is with Outlook, which I don't use. I can say however that Word, Excel and PowerPoint work just fine

Unfortunately Office 2016 also seems to have its own set of stability problems in 10.11. Microsoft messed this OS release up in a big way.

Not looking to upgrade, Office 2011 does all I need. I plan to keep using it as long as I can, definitely not looking to be "renting" software from Microsoft, or anyone else for that matter.
Like Office 2011, Office 2016 is available for purchase now, not just as a subscription.

If there was a DISLIKE button on Facebook for them, I am sure it would be more than 121k. It really isn't just a "few users o this site" that dislike it, it is the overall mac community in general. If you go on any mac forum, there are numerous discussions on how to remove it. There were also sued in a class action lawsuit (and lost) for their unethical business practices. You are free to use whatever software you like, but the others on here are just looking out for you.

Zerobit even ran ads on Facebook to advise users of the issue:

http://www.pcworld.com/article/2927032/ads-for-mackeeper-refunds-will-run-on-facebook.html

A website is devoted to this lawsuit:

https://yenchasoftwaresettlement.com

iMore.com reported on them as being unethical, and I believe iMore is also considered questionable by some:

http://www.imore.com/proposed-mackeeper-lawsuit-settlement-lets-you-file-refund-nov-30

There are many more, which can be found with a quick Google search. I intentionally left out links to posts on "this site."

These ones are from Apple's own discussion forum:

https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3691
https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2779849?tstart=0

A post on Reddit:

How about from TheSafeMac, recently acquired by the trusted MalwareBytes:

brilliant post, mikecwest! and yet, STILL, some (the OP?) will hold onto what they believe. like people who think the earth is flat, or those who believe milkshakes can cure cancer. and nothing (no facts, for example) will change their minds...

Yeah, like those that believe that the Flu shot will make you sick, and immunizations will make you autistic?

Thanks.. I will wait till Outlook 2011 is compatible with EL Captain so for the moment its Yosemite.

It is not gonna happen... Microsoft doesn't support Office for Mac 2011 anymore. I am sure Microsoft is not going to listen your whines or complains. Sorry.

^^^^It's my understanding that a point upgrade will be coming. Remember how long MS supported Office 2008? The last point upgrade for Office 2011 came from MS less than a month ago. So Yes, it's still being supported.

Reporting problems or bugs with software is not "whines or complains" IMHO, but letting the software author know there is a problem. Some of them actually care.
