As much as I hope I'm wrong, I think Apple is switching to a 24 month cycle for the iPad Pro. Which would suck, because I'm so ready to upgrade from my 16GB Air 2. (iPadOS has rendered it pretty much obsolete, can't store anything on it).

Wishing for an iPad Pro Mini with Face ID and Apple Pencil 2. But will probably "go big or go home" with the next 12.9 (or bigger?).

My two cents, I'm quite confident there will be a new iPad Pro next month. Apple has stuck to a 1.5 year cycle since the first iPP, in which the current model is now approaching the end of said cycle.

I see the current 11" iPP isn't listed as "New" on Apples website anymore either and it was included in the Black Friday Apple Store Promotion (whereas every other current generation product was excluded), which for me is a subtle indicator its successor is very close by.

I'm looking forward to it and hope to see a new iPP next month. :)

It’s not new because the newest is the 2019 10.2 iPad.

A new report from German site iPhone-ticker.de claims that Apple is planning to hold a media event at the very end of March, with Tuesday, March 31 being the most likely date.

So the update with the new iPad Pro’s will be the camera system and possibly the A13X chip? Isn’t the current chip already really powerful?

I think they will announce it in March but it won’t be out until fall. I don’t see them putting the A13x in it.

Maybe. My 10.5" pro has white dot syndrome and i'm keen on a 12.9.

I don't "need" the processing power so much, but i do like to get on board fairly early in a product's life to get maximum usable support out of it, and the current machines haven't been updated in a long time now.

According to 9to5 mac: Bloomberg says March for SE2 and first half year for new iPP. In that case, even if iPP is delayed, it will contain a A13X. iPP will not get a A14X before iPhone gets a A14.

I’m in a similar boat as you— my iPad Pro 10.5 also has the white dot syndrome.

I hope the newer release doesn’t suffer from this issue.

Im more excited for the announcement than the physical product.

The 2018 hardware is already far too powerful for this aging OS and Apples suite of neglected apps. So I just want to get a clue on what Apples vision of “Pro” actually means for 2020-22.

I believe in iPad Pro being more than just a $1400 Netflix screen. So I’m hoping for a hint of hardware pushing Pro apps and a keyboard aimed at getting work done.

I am a buyer if these new iPad Pro models have 6GB of RAM across the board and the A13X processor.

If they continue with the frame construction I see on the newest iPads (where they're back to slab/square sides) which appear to be a nod to strength and less about "looking" thin (WGAS) I'll be a buyer.

Totally agree. If you're going to charge bigboy prices for the devices (and obviously they are - these things cost more than high-end laptops) then you'd better make sure they have some compelling features. I'd rather not be paying $1300 to watch Netflix when a $200 Amazon Fire tablet can do the same thing.

Anyone buying an iPad Pro just to watch Netflix obviously can spend whatever they want, whether logical or not. Of course the iPad pros are expensive but considering the hardware, worth it. Especially as a multi-Apple device owner. The software is getting there and now that iPadOS is separate from iOS, I expect major functionality added to iPadOS.

There are literally zero reasons for them to announce an iterative iPad update 6+ months before releasing it. They will announce it when it's ready, or almost ready, to ship. It would cannibalize their current iPad sales otherwise.

Agree. But counterpoint: An early announcement would INCREASE sales.

In real world usage then iPad hardware has been several generations beyond OS/Software. But a whole lot of Pro users are holding off because we want to see if 2020 offers more than just a camera. So if they give us the fall specs then I’d guess that lots of us would gladly buy an “old” discounted Gen3 now rather than wait 6month for a camera and an even more overpowered chip.

anyway that’s the boat I’m in. I want to buy but I can’t until I know what I’m missing.

Maybe. But I suspect a big part of Apple's marketing (and why people buy their products) is all the news that covers a new Apple product. If Apple announces something today and gets a bunch of splash in the news, it's going to be much less of a splash (and covered less) 6 months from now when it actually ships.

They have done something like this with the Mac Pro, but it did seem the Mac was in a more precarious position with pros jumping ship amid the perception Apple no longer cares about them, and the Mac Pro is a much more of a niche product than even the iPad Pro.

You're missing potentially 6 months worth of using an iPad Pro at this point.
Yeah, but we already know what the difference is between the 2018 iPad Pros and older models so at least it's an informed decision.

I guess?

But real world impact: current ipad pro will run all ipad apps very well. you could be having the premium ipad experience TODAY, and for the next 6 months prior to the new ipad pro likely being released.

If you have an actual need for such a device, that's a long time to wait.

If you don't have a need for the device, don't buy it at all, and stop worrying when it will come out.

I've always had a work supplied desktop for work related stuff.

My personal desktops and laptops are pretty much for entertainment. I draw the line at >$1500, though. Not counting the File Server/NAS, I've never spent more than that on a single PC.
