There’s always a limit and with how the market is phones will not sell at those prices
Exactly! Every time people ask this the answer is the same. The consumers by no longer buying it!

Well, if cost of living increases aren't accompanied by wage increase, guess which of the above gets cut from the equation?
Exactly it would go from bottom to top. Can easily control iPhone cost by not buying. Somewhat of a pain for Insurance sometimes, and moving is an absolute pain which is the only way to stop your rent from raising.

I think people can affort 2,000$ iphone , dont care what they do but they still want it and buy it

foreign country worker make 300$ per months and everyone has iphone 7/8/x even xs max on their hand , how that :)

to me i can buy iphone $2,000
apple card or att next = 100$ per month

american , every body own debt

If that’s sarcasm you win.

If it’s not, that isn’t everyone’s mindset and it’s sure as heck not mine.

I buy my phones outright. No phone is worth more than $650 to me. And certainly not iPhone.
Exactly. The price used to not even move between models. But ever since the installments came, the prices went crazy because people just looked at the payment. Now even the payment is getting ridiculous when it is more than even the top tier unlimited plans.
That’s a good point.

Not interested in where Apple is going in hardware, software and services. Definitely not going to pay in installments either. I hate being locked into that with carriers.

H-E-L-L N-O!

I paid $1k once and that was too much.

Apple is moving away from my needs and wants.

As far as phones go, I agree. I will no longer get the newest iPhone, I have an X and I could have just stuck with the 8. but, i went with the X and will stay with it until I have to get a new one (by then I hope to upgrade to a used/refurbished version of what is not even out now).

I think its become clear most iPhone users don’t want to pay £1k for an iPhone let alone doubling that again. Do you not read the articles stating the XR is the best selling new iPhone and older models are selling well also?

You’ll find plenty of people out there who could easily afford a £2k phone if they wanted one but never would consider spending that much on a phone that does the same thing as a £750 iPhone. Welcome to reality.

Why the devil is it so expensive in Canada? For the base model?!

I appreciate that everyone's cutoff is different, but for $1700, you can get a computer AND an ipad.

That’s about £14 more expensive than here in the UK on the current exchange rate. I’d never even entertain paying that much for a phone that essentially does the same thing as other large and cheaper iPhones further down the chain. The iPhone XR is becoming the business phone of choice from my experience and when my 8+ is out of contract i’ll be looking to upgrade to that tier device rather than paying for extras that would make no difference to my usage. No wonder people are keeping phones longer at these silly prices.

Mind, US prices don't include sales tax.

The current XS Max would be more like $1600-1650 in California after tax. More with AppleCare+ (mandatory on the iPhone Upgrade Program which I expect is how a lot here in the US buy their iPhones).

A $1700 phone is going to be around $1900 after tax.

I used to spend $3k + tax every 2 yrs on devices for 4 lines (granted, initial outlay of "only" $299/line + tax on full MSRP). A bit crazy that it's $4.5-5k + tax (another ~$500) if one goes for mid-tier storage XS/XS Max now. Even divided by 24 months, that's still ~$200/mo *just* for the phones. Even crazier if Apple raises price yet again and that goes up to $6k.

I do wish Apple would make a smaller version of the XR, though as it's really just too big for me.

Has anyone asked where are these "supposed prices" coming from!?

They’re made up. These threads surface every single year, ‘will you pay XYZ for this iPhone...’. I made the joke earlier in the thread that the next thread will say ‘will you pay $3000 for an iPhone...’

Even with subsidized payments through carriers, the economy can’t support those types of prices for smart phones. Not when you have iPhone users that generally don’t upgrade every year. That’s why these threads are kind of ridiculous in some ways.

Yeah this thread reminds me of a kermit the frog tea drinking meme I saw floating around last year...

"Upgraded to the latest iPhone? You should have upgraded from a bus to a car but that's none of my business."

Priorities! LOL

Bruh. No way. $1699 for a PHONE!?!?

That’s nuts. I paid $549 for iPhone X and still feel like that was a lot.

1699 for a fully loaded phone is not that expensive
But this year, it lacks of 5G capacity
What if we all gonna embrace 5G Next year?
So nope!
