I agree with what you're saying but at the same time I'm not going to be bent over by Apple on pricing... and if you're curious what I'm talking about... that would be the $1500+ cell phone that will be here soon. Maybe as soon as next year with the X Plus.

I already ditched my MBPro and iMac to build a PC with 3x the hardware at a much better price than anything Apple could sell me.

There will still be a flagship at the $999 price point though. No need to spend $1500.

Most likely I won't after finding out that Apple purposely throttles the processor on older phones. This is a breach of trust at best and criminal.

I'll definitely be buying a 2018 iPhone from Apple as I appreciate the software improvements that prolong the life of my phone if I were to keep it after the expected battery cycles.

It depends. If Apple improves Face ID, then I’ll get it. Otherwise, no.

I have no problems with folks financially blessed enough to buy new iPhones every year. My personal choice will be to amortize my current fully paid-for 128GB 6S+ at least until 2019. I will then decide, based on prevalent market conditions and pricing; whether to go for a new iPhone or buy Android.
