I'm buying the new iPad for faster processor and better graphics, couldn't care less about Touch ID vs face id, I trust apple will make whatever unlocking method work nicely. It is my main computer device. Any cost increase wouldn't matter to me because it will still be 1/3 or 1/2 the cost of a MacBook.

I assume there will be a price hike, but I also believe it may have be a reflection of the Hardware component costs. I don’t expect anymore than a $50.00 increase though.
I might bite if it’s that little but they keep widening the margin between the lower and higher end of a product on all of their lines, and it’s getting irritating
.

I wouldn’t buy it just for Face ID. I’m happy with using my thumb or finger to unlock my iPad, but I do have Face ID on my iPhone X and don’t mind that either, it just isn’t a factor for me when considering if I will upgrade my iPad or not.
I currently have both the iPad Pro 10.5 and iPad Pro 12.9 (2017), so I am sitting pretty happy with these, both with 512GB. What is likely to get me to upgrade at the moment would be a reduced bezel iPad Pro. I think that ideally, I’d like to see a 12.9” with reduced bezels (reduced overall size) and weight.

Because Face ID will log into porn sites, this will prevent smudging and smears on the display..

In reality the iPad should mimic how the X performs. I am all for the iPhone and iPad interactions to be the same.

I have stopped using the finger print feature on the iPad. Face ID on the X has worked very well for me. Ok fierward to having it on the next gen ipad

I will probably buy something eventually after I replace my iMac, but after my bummer experiences with the 2nd gen 12.9”, whatever iPP I might buy to replace it will be drastically marked down(i.e. a 10.5) or I will wait on sales. I do not want or need bells and whistles in my iDevices so it is definitely not a priority now. Will get a cheapie Huion tablet and software in the meantime to appease my art urges.

I just got a new 10" iPad pro a couple months back to replace my ancient iPad Air. But I'm still thinking of upgrading to the new one. Why? Well... this is why (fire, most likely electrical related, for those who don't want to click). I lost my new iPad, my 6-month old Apple Watch and a $300 pair of headphones (obviously more was lost, but those are the important things to me). It's sounding like insurance will cover everything, but if I rush out to replace what was lost 2 months before the new stuff is out, I know I'll regret it. In particular, I'm looking forward to the bigger screens rumored for both the iPad and Watch. So it's going to be a very long rest of the summer!

As for the FaceID, I'm thrilled. I have it on my iPhone and love it there. So I'm thrilled it might possibly be coming to the iPad. I'd love that level of consistency between my devices.

I have to say, I'm kicking myself for leaving my 2-month old iPad out there. I have a 4-year old MacBook Pro that I would have gladly sacrificed & replaced instead! :D

I sold my iPad Pro after 5 months of using it because I felt that learning to draw is easier on paper and all other stuff I can do on my iPhone and MacBook Pro.

The only unique thing about it was an ability of using it in classroom while teaching, reading your notes and walking around, and I kind of miss it.

I guess it can be easily said that there is no Tablet/iPad we need, it is only a luxury to have it.

So... Will you buy the upcoming iPad Pro with Face ID? Please specify why and what is your use case.

PS.

One funny thing about iPads is that everyone uses the devices in bed/while being laaaaaazy. The only people I know who use the devices more are teachers and drawing artists. Is it useful for other people? ...Yeah, I know kids love playing games on their iPads ;)

While I appreciate your reasons for selling your IPP, I can’t agree when you say “it is only a luxury to have it.”

Let me use myself as an example.

I am an academic researcher. As such, I have a personal physical library of about 8.5k books (hardback and softcover) and a digital library which is around 30gb in size and growing. I am in the process of converting as many of my physical books into digital form. Why?

Recently, I was traveling in Australasia for a few weeks on research work. But at the same time I was working on two papers and a monograph for which I have to continually read, mark up documents, write notes, and of course write the damn things. Earlier (before I started using tablets) I had to think carefully which books to take and almost half my travel kit was crammed with books and folders of printed articles. Do you know how tiresome that can get when trying to drag oneself through airports and cities and train stations? Now, my kit consists of the Surface Pro 4 which I use as a laptop (99% of the time), the IPP 10.5 which serves as my digital note book in which I read, write and, if necessary, punch out posts like this one! And, an Android phone whose key feature is an absurdly long battery-life.

For me, my IPP is an indispensable part of my life. So, as you can see, a tablet is not a luxury for me. It is a core necessity and I am willing to pay good money for the best possible experience, which is why I am currently using the IPP.

honestly I can't say that I will or won't buy the iPad Pro because I don't know what the specs will be. face id v touch id on an iPad certainly isn't enough for me to make a decision.

I have an iPad 2 from 2011 and plan to upgrade to an iPad Pro. It will be the next model, but if the next model has Face ID, I will get the current model iPad Pro 10.5.

I do not want Face ID on my phone or my iPad.

Not interested in iPads with faceid atm...I just bought the 10.5 iPad Pro and this should last me for 3 years if I’m lucky. My last 9.7 iPad Pro died a few days ago sadly.

Absolutely not. Face ID is okay on phone cause you’re usually looking at it when you use it, or have it facing you. On iPad, how many times is it flat on a desk/table and you’re writing on it during meeting/class, you pause to listen or whatever, and it falls asleep? You’d have to pick it up and point it at your face every time you want to unlock it, awkwardly lean over it, or (what you’ll end up doing) enter the code. Touch ID on the other hand is perfect for a device trying to replace paper. Face ID would be better suited for a laptop.

I am interested in the 12.9" with Face ID, not because of Face ID, but because the bezels would be smaller, reducing the footprint of the device. That would be pretty meaningful with the 12.9". I am looking forward to the upgrade. This year may be an expensive Apple year for me, especially if they release a new consumer Macbook.

Not for Face ID per se. I mostly would use my iPad at home or while travelling and... I don't see the use for Face ID, then.

I don’t think anyone really has enough information to say for sure yet. Several questions remained unanswered:
  1. Will Face ID require me to pick up my iPad off my desk and aim it at my face each time I want to unlock it? I use my iPad flat on a table in meetings while writing notes on it and leave it propped in the low position on my desk using a Smart Cover most of the rest of the day. Having to either lean over the screen or pick up the iPad in order for Face ID to get a proper scan would be an absolute dealbreaker for me. It’s fine on my iPhone where I’m holding it in front of my face anyway to use it. Not so with my iPad.
  2. Will there be a notch? The status bar redesign in iOS 12 makes me think there will be. The next question is whether the notch will be in portrait or landscape?
  3. What will Apple do with the chassis? Will it get smaller and lighter while keeping the screen the same size? Or will the screen be expanded to fill the existing chassis? I’d be pretty tempted to buy if Apple shaved a couple tenths of a pound off the 12.9 inch model. I don’t really feel like I need a bigger screen. Also, I hope the screen ratio doesn’t change. I find the ultra tall screen on the iPhone X doesn’t really add a ton of value in most cases.
  4. Will there be other hardware improvements? Maybe better speakers or a new version of the Apple Pencil? Those could be small factors that would tip the decision.
In short, I will need to see what is announced before deciding. The current 2nd gen 12.9” Pro is already more than fast enough for everything I do on it. And, in the absence of any firm information, I am very skeptical of an iPhone X design with Face ID on an iPad. Apple will have to convince me this fall.
Basically all this. I actually miss my touchID from my iphone 7 considering how often FaceID seems to think the lighting inside or out is wrong or the angle isn’t just so or i’m not close enough etc etc etc daily, and i’m tapping my passcode in. If there’s even a shred of possibility i’d had to pull that crap on my ipad I’m just going to grab a 2017 model and clutch it for dear life. I use my 12.9” Pro as a laptop replacement. photo editing, creative uses (design and illustration with its now outstanding app offerings) and writing/GTD and such.

smaller bezels (or 12.9 equivalent screen) would be nice but also, i’m hoping they don’t bone everyone who linked up on their $200 keyboard and make that useless....as i type this i realize that’s exactly what’s probably going to happen.

I don’t need the heavy steel chassis, the enlongated aspect ratio, or faceID. I would like ForceTouch for some things, and maybe it be a bit thinner without sacrificing battery or speed.

I’ll buy one. I don’t think I like Face ID though so I’ll just use a passcode.

I’ll just watch YouTube on it.

I say yes, but it really does depend on what it looks like and the cost. I thought I was going to buy the Xs before it was announced; but after they did, it turns out that it is just not worth it to me. My interest is in the bezel free design tbh, but if the camera sticks out like the iPhones, I may just stick to my mini.

I pretty much could use my iPad for everything I do on my computer with the exception of design in CAD. Because Im on my computer for this often, I really end up doing everything on there and using my iPad as a browsing device in bed. My desire for the new iPad is more of a want of a shiny new toy rather than an actual need, that's for sure :p

I love Face ID... just not an iPad. I don’t always pick up my iPad to unlock it... which is where Touch ID is beneficial. It’s really quick to unlock thanks to the second generation Touch ID. Even if Face ID offered the ability to unlock in portrait and landscape mode, still wouldn’t be interested. Touch ID will likely remain with the 2019 iPad but the specs and quality won’t be as great as the current 10.5 Pro. The 10.5 Pro, I think, will be a power beast for years to come... at least 3 years. Look at the iPad Air 2 for example... still performs insanely well. iOS 7, 8, 9, 10, 11 and now 12.

Edit: my iPad is the cellular model with free 1 GB of data on it. Touch ID can have multiple (more than 2) fingerprints stored on it. Face ID only allows 2. Bezels on the 10.5 are definitely tolerable. Bothered me on the 9.7. Everyone has different needs... 10.5 has definitely met them and definitely impressed with how powerful it is. Carrying this around is 10x easier than carrying my 11” MBA with me on the go.

Face ID isn't a huge draw for me, but an iPad Pro without a home button and smaller bezels is something I can't pass up. I travel quite a lot and traveling with an iPad is much more convenient than my 15" Pro. When I'm not traveling, the iPad is mostly for reviewing work documents and consuming media so it's a perfect fit for me.

I also don't have an iPad currently so that makes the decision much easier than if I were deciding to upgrade.

Yes, I will be upgrading for so many reasons.
Here’s a list...

1.) No Bezels, so it will be smaller and lighter but have the same screen size as before.

2.) No bloody physical home button, (I have had so many problems with home buttons.) I cannot wait to finally have an iPad design that I’ve always dreamed about.)

3.) Much faster A12X 7nm octa-core processor, (this iPad will put so many laptops to shame, and all other tablets.)

4.) Possible Apple Pencil 2, (I do film, professional photography, concept art, character design, and a bunch of other things relating to art and use of a pencil.) Having an even better more accurate Apple Pencil will be fantastic.

5.) Face ID, (I got so used to Face ID that using Touch ID takes me longer cause I forget only phones use it right now, lol.)

6.) No headphone-Jack, everyone may hate me, but I don’t use headphone-jacks and am happy to see them leave, (this also allows more room for battery, speakers, better WiFi, BT, and other better tech.)

7.) Most likely will have even better LCD screen with ProMotion, better HDR, more brightness, and overall better screen quality and colors.

8.) Possible USB-C might finally allow one to offload images or documents straight to thumb drives or computer... but I actually don’t care if they leave lightning as all my devices are Apple and so saving in my 2TB cloud is how I access it all across each device.

9.) I don’t have an iPad Pro currently to edit videos and photos from my small business, I’ve been using minor apps on iPhone X and my iMac, having more precise control again, with my iPad and Apple Pencil is going to be so incredibly awesome.

10.) Improved Battery life, better speakers.

11.) With a possible new design... it will maybe allow easier handling.

12.) Having an iPad Pro again, (one with major spec bumps) will be sinceriously amazing! :)

There are more reasons, but I can’t think about them all right now, lol.
