Nope. Faceid seems like a step back from touchID on the iPad since it only supports one user, whereas with touchID you could have multiple finger prints from multiple people. iPads are more likely to be shared than iPhones.

I don’t feel like this is a factor. You can have two faces and five finger prints. I would imagine most people use more than one fingerprint per person. I use four, thumb and index finger on each hand.

Try holding an iPad Pro with one hand securely in landscape mode. There is no way your palm or thumb wouldn’t be covering part of the screen if the bezels were any smaller. Palm rejection doesn’t make your hand see through! ;)
The bezels won’t be smaller than that, any talk of reduced bezels is refering to the top and bottom ones. Although many people have interpreted it as meaning a reduction for all bezels, but as you say that would a bad move. But that won’t stop Apple from doing it in the future.

Probably not. I took a step up from the 9.7" to the 10.5" last year because I thought it was a perfect device except it needed slightly more room for when I took notes on it via Apple Pencil. The 10.5" has been perfect and really doesn't have much more I could ask for. Super fast, amazing screen/size, LTE, portable w/ Smart Keyboard, handles all the things my iPhone can't but without needing my MacBook.

Face ID and slimmer bezels probably won't win me over on upgrading but ill hold my breath until I see Apple's marketing materials. They always seem to get me. ;)

How can you have multiple fingerprints if they remove touchID? I’m assuming if they would add faceid they they would be removing touchID, which I think is a pretty solid assumption.

I think what @steve23094 was trying to say was that allowing 5 fingerprints via TouchID is roughly similar to allowing 2 faces via FaceID (iOS 12). That's with the expectation that a person registers more than one fingerprint with TouchID.

I'm still hoping for a day Apple allows multiple user profiles on the iPad with users automatically logged in to their profile via biometric identification.

The main reason I’m not upgrading is because my Air 2 is still fine for what I use my iPad for (videos, browsing, photos)

iOS 12 has made my Air 2 even smoother

Edit: I don’t care for Face ID on iPad because my iPad is home and always unlocked.

I am ridiculously satisfied with my 2017 10,5” model and I sincerely doubt Apple can offer that big of a jump in just 1 year. Nothing at all really comes close to straining the 2017 model for performance.

I have a 2nd gen 12.9" iPP.

If they come out with a 12.9" (or larger) OLED, edge to edge? Absolutely. I'm in love with the OLED on my X and would love it an iPad. FaceID would be a 'nice to have' (the tightly integrated authentication while making purchases, auto-loading credentials into webpages, etc is great), my primary motivation would be the display.

What is it exactly you’re doubting? That Apple can’t transition to face ID from touch ID in just over a year? You do realize that they work on products far more advanced even before they released the 2017 iPad Pro during WWDC. That ‘Jump’ you’re referring to is imminent with Face ID.

Disagree!

I wish they never bring “Fail Id” oops I mean Face ID to iPads.

I thought that was kind of obvious: I am doubting Apple's ability to cram enough upgrades in the span of 1 year to convince me to upgrade from the 2017 model.

I’m actually certain about it and still enjoying life with the basic 2017 model.

Well, I guess some people just can’t handle change. Unfortunately they will be perpetually disappointed in life, because change is the only constant in the Universe. Everything changes my friend. Get used to it.

Now as far as Face ID on iPads is concerned? I welcome it. I have owned iPads since the very first one, and am still grandfathered in on the original AT&T unlimited data plan. Of all the iPads i’ve Owned, besides the occassional cracked screen, the area most prone to breakage for me has been the physical home button. I am glad Apple is getting rid of it. Not only will I not have to worry about it breaking anymore, I will also get more screen real estate in the same physical size iPad. What’s not to love about that?

Yes definitely, Face ID is great by far my favourite feature it works so well and is even more reliable on my iPhone X than Touch ID was on my iPhone 7 Plus. If they being it to the iPad my guess is the bottom bezel will be gone making more room for more screen estate or they might reduce the overall size of the devices.

I don't really know yet..
I'm still on my Cellular iPad Pro 9.7" and I love everything about it and honestly just see no reason to upgrade at all.

If they ever get materially lighter - that'd be one thing I'd be interested in I suppose..

I agree with you about the 9.7" iPad Pro+LTE. Mine is still going strong on the iOS 12 beta, and I am not really sure I need a new iPad but I can almost guarantee that my need to have the latest and greatest will kick in and I will buy it anyway.

I spend most of my internet time on the MBP and the weekends I spend some time using the iPad Pro... I will certainly buy the next gen iPad whatever it is... in the pro range. I usually choose the model one step from the top except in the MBP... I love having the power but don't need the on board storage so much, so I opt for the lower storage model of nearly everything... the iPad I store very little on the machine. Have only recently begun storing on iCloud storage... and I limit that as I am not quite comfortable on stability and longevity... I may move everything to cloud eventually, but it will probably be my personal cloud when I do, and Use iCloud for items I may want to share with others...

I don't care whether the home button exists or if we have a Face ID situation or what... I just want to stay on top of the tech as it grows. I don't want to be 4-5 years or more behind because of being frugal. I have a couple more months payments on the current iPad Pro, so I likely will hold until after the year end to move to the new model if it's available... which it should be due to the constant hounding of the public wanting new stuff from Apple...

Size is good with the 12.9 in my usage case. I don't mind if it gets slightly larger or even slightly smaller in physical size as long as the screen real estate stays close to what I have now.

I do some personal level artwork. Nothing to share, and nothing productivity for now. If my MBP has a problem arise I will likely resort to more iPad time out of necessity. I don't use any computer of mine for work. If I did the price of my employ would be much higher. I work pretty cheap. Mechanic thing I guess...

Like with touchid on the macbook pros
You register 2 faces, each one with specific profile on the ipad

I plan to buy the top of the line wifi model once the new one comes out. I’ve got a 9.7” one right now and although I mostly love it I want a bigger screen so I’ll see how big the new iPads are and make my decision then.

I use it mostly for watching videos and playing games with occasional word processing, emails, banking and budgeting.

I might, just depends, if they raise the price higher than they already did, then no.

I assume there will be a price hike, but I also believe it may have be a reflection of the Hardware component costs. I don’t expect anymore than a $50.00 increase though.
