I’m keeping my 2018 iPad Pro 11 and that’s coming from someone who’s owned an iPad 2, 3, 4, Air, Air 2, Pro 9.7 and Pro 10.5. I see this very much as an iterative update, great for those who held off buying the 2018 version, but not necessary for anybody that did.

I’m not even sure a Steve Jobs keynote could persuade me to upgrade. Augmented reality doesn’t really do it for me. It's not even like when they introduced the Pencil, where I wanted to try it even though I knew it would be a waste of money for me.

It’s faster and will have more RAM, but am I really going to notice that in, say, the next two years? I don’t think so. Developers are still going to make most apps run on 3GB of RAM because of the 3rd generation Air and the 7th generation iPad.

Don’t misunderstand me, the 2020 iPad Pros will be great devices, better than the 2018 ones, but I don’t see a killer feature.

Ironically, the Magic Keyboard is probably the best new feature, but that's compatible with the older model.

i have the ipad pro 12.9 2nd gen so this will be a nice upgrade

i have a mother eyeing my current ipad pro and a niece eyeing up my mothers ipad 9.7 so i think i'll bite but will watch out for reviews online. I do like the fact the storage will start at 128gb and the new keyboard sounds good.

I am quite fortunate that my finances are very good at the moment even with covid 19 i can see where apple will just want this next 18 months to be over and done with like the rest of us.

After looking online i can't see many retailers except apple selling the new ipads hope more start appearing.

As has been mentioned many times before, the main target market for new generation devices is not those with the previous generation devices. The main target market generally is those with older devices or else no device at all.

If you already have a 2018 model, Apple has already gotten your money. They'll go after your money again with a 2021 model.

I'll keep my 2018. I'v never taken a photo with my iPad Pro and don't intend to start. I also couldn't care less about AR or 4K video editing so this version for me is not even close to making me think about upgrading. But, that's most likely by design by Apple. I'm not their target market for this one. Like said above, they are coming after me in 2021.

I am glad the new keyboard will work with my iPad Pro, because I will be for sure buying that.

I’ve a 12.9” and an 11”, both 1TB. Delighted at the news the new keyboard is backward compatible. I was already incredibly satisfied with both, short of some incredible new development in iPads which has never been on the horizon for those of us paying attention, I was never upgrading. In May, my 2018 purchase will get even better.

Good timing too, the down arrow on my 11” ASK has been playing up lately, which is very annoying.

I was addressing the OP's post, which is titled 'Will you keep your current iPad Pro or upgrade to the 2020 iPP?'

Your posts are normally very measured, but I don't find that to be the case with this one.

I’ve ordered the 11” 128gb Pro.

Trading in my 1st gen 12.9” 32gb as its full and starting to shows signs of age.

£170 for the trade-in
£160 gift card from MBP purchase before Xmas
2% off employee scheme
£132 of points built up in above scheme

i almost bought the “old” 64gb a few weeks ago thinking there wouldn’t be an update at the mo’, so to get the new version with more HDD in the base model and 6gb RAM was well worth it.

Daughter can have old pencil v1, and I’m gonna try the Logitech one for £50.

If I order one, I'll be keeping my old iPad. I'm on the fence to order a new one at this point. I have hoarded gift cards these past few years for either a new apple watch or an iPad. I think an iPad is a better use for my money but I'll want to give it time to mull things over regarding buying now

I think your comment makes a lot of sense but what about the difference of 6GB RAM in the 2018 iPad Pro vs 6GB In the 2020 iPad Pro ? Will that not make a huge difference ? Is not a game changer ?

For some it might make a significant difference. For most it won’t though, at least in the near term. Depends on usage of course.

Truthfully for me I don’t really need more than 4 GB right now, but I prefer to wait for memory upgrades before I buy, mainly for device longevity. That’s partially why I waited for the iPad 2 instead of getting the iPad 1. Similar for iPad Air 2 instead of iPad Air. And that’s also partially why I went for the iPad 7th gen instead of 6th gen

The touchscreen on my 3rd generation iPad Pro is beginning to act wonky. Battery life has also gotten pretty bad from lots of heavy use (either that or its defective).

As a result, I think I will be upgrading. :)

Whoa ! Whoa ! You are scaring me dude !! Do you mean to say heavy and continuous use of the iPad will degrade the battery even faster ?? Because I have after getting an external bluetooth keyboard and mouse I have started using it very extensively ! But I have double thoughts now about should I be doing that way and should I be using it that way if the batteries degrades with heavy use !

Yes, heavy use will require more charging time, using charge cycles but I'd say use the iPad as you need and desire to use it and not worry about the battery - remember, that's why you bought it, not to have a long-term casing for a battery.

Isn’t the main difference and should the point not be 6GB RAM in the 2020 iPad Pro versus only 4GB RAM in the 2018 iPad Pro ? That’s Big !!
Its huge if the 4GB wasn't sufficient for my uses. There is nothing that my 2018 iPP struggles on though. So I see no pressing reason to drop another $800 to have some more RAM when what I have is sufficient. But everyone has their own reasons why they do or don't. If they made the camera flush with the back, I would have upgraded despite there being no functional aspect between the two. Thats just me though because a case-less aesthetic means a lot to me.

I think I’ll upgrade from my 2017 iPad Pro, my mum is due an upgrade and she will have my current Pro. However I think I’m going to wait until May when the new keyboard comes out as well.

by then reviews will be out and we will have more of an idea and how big an upgrade the 2020 version will be for people like myself with the 2017 model.

I’m also keeping an eye on the Surface Neo and Duo, i’m waiting to see if anything is announced with those.

No need to upgrade from my 2018 12.9 as the hardware changes are lost on me. My current iPP still flies and I got it for a proverbial steal (1TB LTE model that only cost me about $1100 brand new) so I’m grateful that I can keep chugging away with it for hopefully another 2+ years.

The new pointer control caught my eye so I installed the 13.4 beta and pair my Magic Trackpad 2 to see what it was all about—huge improvement over the initial implementation via Accessibility/Assistive Touch. I’d love to have the integrated trackpad and adjustable viewing angles afforded by the new Magic Keyboard but $349 is really steep—even for typical Apple pricing, so I think I’m going to stick with my current keyboard folio/Brydge keyboard combo and just pack the Magic Trackpad when I need it.

I was perfectly happy and content with my 10.5 Pro, and I really had no desire to upgrade. But after thinking about it, I most likely would be upgrading by next year, and then I would contemplate waiting for the next one (presuming the 18 month cycle). Not to mention joking with the fiancé who insisted I mine as well get one and treat myself for my birthday (in May) conveniently when they keyboard with trackpad are available. And my sons iPad Air 2 seems to be getting on its last legs, I could pass my Pro to my fiancé, and give her Air 3 to my son, and all these moves seem to make sense.
Damn you Apple for finding a way to take my money! Lol.
Decisions, decisions.............

I sold my 256gb 11" IPP on eBay and immediately ordered a new one - this time the 12.9" with 256gb. I also ordered the Apple Folio in the Cactus (green) color to match my iPhone 11 Pro Max.

I have the first gen 12.9 IPP. It is still very snappy and runs like a champ. However, the apple keyboard cover I've had since launch hasn't worked in 2 years. This weekend I was finally going to replace it. As I was at the store I thought to myself "am I really going to spend $125 on a keyboard for a 4 year old iPad?" and I left the store empty handed. Then boom! 3 days later new iPads are revealed. I'll take it as a sign to upgrade!

Keeping my 10.5 2017 Pro. Looking forward to "upgrading" it with the Logitech trackpad keyboard.

I feel like even with the incremental upgrades the 2020 version has there isn't a compelling reason for me to upgrade my 2017 model. If the inclusion of FaceID, 2nd generation pencil and upgraded form factor wasn't enough to sway me to upgrade I don't see any of the 2020 changes doing so either. There really needs to be a set of hardware features that brings functionality that doesn't exist on older generations to push me to spend on a new device and all new peripherals. Slightly better speed, slightly more RAM and a different unlocking method just aren't it.
