Apple would of known about the ChinaFlu since Nov/Dec19 when it started in China, having a factory there and the big name they are would have had insider info. Hence the minor updates now. No new products just speck bumps to keep things ticking along.

Apple like most US companies of no factories but of contractors like Foxconn who make the stuff.

I doubt they designed the new iPad in fall. Products often go through years of planning, testing etc and are not planned for what’s coming in half a year.

I've long been wanting to upgrade from my 11inch to a 12.9 and 256gb of ram had become a pain sometimes when i let my movie and photo collection grow too much. So for me, a move to a 12.9" 512gb had been something id contemplated even within the 2018 gen, but knew it would be sensible to hold out until the refresh.

I'm disappointed there aren't more upgrades. but as someone who upgrades every gen anyway, I'll get the next one when it comes out, so this one will be nice until then. cant wait until the trackpad keyboard is available.

I’d love to have 256 GB RAM in any of my devices! Storage on the other hand... ;)

We bought a 2018 for my wife due to the significant discounts and her not needing any of the new additions to the 2020 model. We had intended to buy the next model of iPad Pro for her. I was also hoping to change my second gen iPad Pro when the model after the 2018 came out but this new one is barely even a new model. My iPad is completely fine for everything I use it for right now, I hope Apple can wow me with the next one but it would probably have to have some pretty big improvements to convince me to upgrade.

After an unknown bend in my 2018 iPad Pro appeared to lead to a hairline crack across the screen, I have gone back to my 1st gen iPad Pro. I am really appreciating the ability to hold the device comfortably in landscape (how I usually hold it) and Touch ID. Face ID where I hold the device was dumb.

I wish my battery wasn’t toast and the new pencil worded with it.

I think Apple may address the landscape Face ID issues and perhaps strengthen the chassis in an actual redesign soon, especially as the new accessories really promote landscape use.

My guess is the next iteration of the iPad Pro (fall/winter 2020?) will retain the current design. It will utilize the same Magic Keyboard compatibility, but will change some of the internals. 5G and A14X for sure, but possibly also mini-LED. Thus, my guess would be that it would suffer the same Face ID awkwardness.

Then they would go with a new form factor in 2021-2022.

Mind you, Apple uses software to correct the angle issue for Face ID. It doesn't solve the issue of having your hand cover the sensor though.

I bought the new 12.9 iPad Pro. I previously had a 10.5 iPad Pro... the one with the first generation pencil. There were two key things I wanted in this upgrade.
  1. 12.9" screen. I spend a lot of time on conference calls (Zoom, Webex, Skype, etc)... most hours of most days. The 12.9" screen makes it much easier to read intricate slides. Using a tablet vs my MacBook Pro is just more portable... I can move easily from location to location. At home and work, my MBP is connected to large monitors & peripherals.
  2. Apple Pencil 2: I love just snapping it to the iPad when I am not using it... and it pretty much is always fully charged. I previously used an old iPhone dock to charge my pencil... but that stayed in one place, and I tend to move around.

The other reason I think that I am not updating (and maybe some other folks too) is because the iPad updates seem like they will be similar to how Apple updates their Macs. They update them each year but most often just the processor or higher storage, the newest iPad was like that (an extremely light bump) so there was/is no real excitement or reason for anyone to upgrade to the 4th gen, (even if one has the 2nd gen.) Yes the new iPad pros 3 and 4 are way powerful, but the 2nd gen is still a beast.

I replaced a 2107 12.9 cellular 512GB with 2020 12.9 cellular 1TB.

So far I appreciate the size and weight. I dislike the sharper edges and face ID sensor location, and I hate the folio. I miss the old Smart Cover.

I appreciate performance, storage, and the fresh battery of course.

As long as Apple does not provide me with a solution to run some macOS apps that do not exist natively on the iPad (store), I'm just not buying an iPad at all. We're getting close to a macOS experience on the iPad thanks to the addition of recent mouse support. But we're just not there as of yet. Let's see what iPadOS 14 brings.
